Did the LDS Church Lie in its Tim Ballard Statement? [RFM: 317]

It’s soooo frustrating that anyone believes they will be attacked for wanting to “save children”. This “othering” is so toxic. Anyone who asks questions about the tactics or unethical practices of an organization and the face of that organization is immediately viewed as some sort of evil adversary.

It's sad that someone so confident they can spot how others are being manipulated (for marketing, or otherwise) can't see how they have been manipulated themselves.

"Did the LDS Church Lie?" Yes. The answer to that question is always yes. Edit: We already knew the church lied about endorsing Ballard. Just because they tried to scrub their website doesn't mean the receipts aren't still out there.

How ironic Russell Brunson states "it's because you don't understand how you're being manipulated". Clearly this is what happened to Russell. Despite his intelligence, he has been misled by the sources which formed his world view and his allegiance to his religious beliefs. I hope this experience opened his mind to his own vulnerability to being "played".

Just another perfect example of members being professionals in mental gymnastics and demonstrating obvious cognitive dissonance and accusing people of lying when the facts don’t align with the narrative that makes them comfortable.

It’s so sad that he can’t consider the possibility that the church and/ or Tim could be manipulative.

For someone who thinks they know so much about manipulation, he seems easy to manipulate.

Heartbreaking to see a smart guy bamboozled by LDS leaders. Cults need a bad guy to rally people and give the people meaning. For what it's worth, my journey out started by understanding manipulators. I hope this guy pivots and figures out who LDS leaders really are.

You can't blame ABC Utah for taking down their story rather than face the wrath of the Church. They are as powerless as the City of Cody Wyoming when facing this financial behemoth.

Leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have a saying that goes, "If someone is telling the truth on us then we reverse it on that person." The LDS Church has no qualms about turning the truth into a lie in order to defend themselves.

Why lie? Whomever is running defense for the church needs to be replaced. Be honest, and then follow up with..."yes, we were involved in dealings with Tim Ballard, and even donated to his projects. However upon discovering his deviant behaviour and acts, we have chosen to cut all ties with him and his current or future projects.

Russell must be eating his words now. It's difficult to understand why he believes that Tim Ballard is honest. Has he not read the charges against Tim?

Oh dear... this is very disturbing. I wonder how his testimony is doing now? I mean this when I say I feel really bad for him. The shock of him finding out direct lies has to be earthshaking... Mind blown. Brunson’s video is one of the most revealing stories related to modern Mormonism that we’ve ever seen.

I realized hearing statement this time that the church says Ballard was aware Tim Ballard was using his name and reputation for his own immoral ends. If Ballard knew this months before the Vice article why didn’t he warn church members and immediately by making a statement about Tim the moment he learned of his deceits?

That is a great reveal. There is something that has been bothering me for quite a while and would love for someone to clarify. It is my understanding that according the Church, it is indeed OK to lie if you are"protecting" the Church. So, following the law means following God's law, and the Church represents God, so this goes above and beyond the law of the land. i.e. it's OK to lie even in a court of law since you are doing it for a "higher good". At this is what I have understood. This same situation exists in Scientology and a number of other Cult groups that claim they are above the law. If this is the case, then how on earth can there EVER be a fair legal trial? It makes such a trial a complete sham. If the courts are not aware of this, it gives a HUGE advantage to ANY so called "religious" cult as they claim they are just following their doctrine. I'm pretty sure Scientology has been getting away with this for decades. I would love to see this issue addressed and delved into. When do they not lie in my perspective and not in regards to the book of Mormon or what is true, but when they want you gone they will push you over the edge lying and ignoring you until you leave.
