Broccoli stems are usually just thrown away but are actually the best part. The stems contain most of the fibre and are very sweet adding great flavour along with the florets.

I only remove the woody parts. You don't have to cut that much off. The leaves are good too

I'm a fan of peeling the stalks, then grating them and stir-frying. Perfect way to make sure they don't go to waste!

I always include the stalks when I cook brocolli. Because that veggie is expensive here so I include it. Later I found out that part has more fiber ☺️

I have always used the stems I just cut them at an angle so they cook evenly with the florets.

Dont need to remove the bitter outer layer, wash thoroughly and find a way to make it delicious. The whole thing is good for you.👍🏽👍🏽

He removed like half of the stalk...it was painful to watch. The outer layer adds a nice crunch!!! My mom always just sautéed everything. I never liked the florets and I always went for any pieces that had the most stalk.

When I was a child, I would only eat the stem. I didn't like the texture of the floret part at all. Worked out well because no one else wanted them!

Been eating since i was a child. I loved my eatable vegetation and fruits. Grew up eating all sorts of things growing where I live. From beeries to stems and roots of plants, flower petals, and clovers plus a garden of carrots, pees, beans and apple trees.

I grate the stalks into slaw, and everything trimmed goes into veggie-boullion broth. Zero waste.

I always peel the stalk with a potato peeler, quarter it and present it to my hubby with a salt shaker and he loves it raw while the broccoli is steaming for a side to our dinner meal.❤

Maybe because people have different preferences?? I like broccoli as much as the next person but I can understand and respect that it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's really not a hard concept.

I eat broccoli , almost everyday ❤,you can find wonderful recipes on line too, I prefer cooking it Restaurant style for about 3 minutes , still Beautiful green and a little crispy, great cooked Chinese stir fry style with garlic sauce Etc,, and he is right, never waste the stalks ❤

I used to cut off the edges and only eat the core of the stem now I just cut off a half inch on the bottom and eat the whole darn thing.

I julienne the stalk and add it to my noodles along with cabbage and carrots. Its crunchy and yummy 😋

I always steam stems (no, this is not an attempt to tongue twister:)), but you gave me the inspiration to use them raw: like cutting matchstick and adding them to salads, or using them next to dip-sauces... Thank you!:)

Stems have always been my favourite. Peel the stems and slice diagonally for fillet steak and broccoli in oyster sauce 😄👍😋😋🇬🇧

I make my broccoli Chinese style in a wok and I always include the full stems. I slice them up and blanche them and then stir fry them. In some ways I prefer them to the florets haha. And no need to cut off the outsides

I just started cooking broccoli. I slice up the stems a couple millimeters thick and roast them along with the buds. Just spray with a cooking spray and they're just fine.

Shred the stalks and use in stir fry or broccoli slaw! No need to cut away such large chunks.

I prefer the taste of the stem and have for many years. It makes me cringe when I see the florets only in the store. If the stems that are cut away from the florets were for sale right beside the florets…I would purchase the stems. 🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦

Did you know that in the Philippines they sell the whole brocoli at the wet market except roots? 😂😂😂 Imagine paying for inedible parts taking only 1/3 - almost half of it! 😬😬😬

Yup.....peeling the stems I learned from Julia Child---who advised to cook them a bit longer than the crowns. I too used to toss them out, not realizing they were edible. Raw.....they taste similar to kohlrabi, with the same crunchy texture. Both are members of the cruciferous vegetable group.

There are some unusual things that can be cooked, usually by pressure. Brocolli stems, carrot stems, watermelon rinds etc. They all taste great with the right seasonings.

When I was a student, I let nothing of the broccoli go to waste. Never noticed any bitter taste in the stems.

ich schneide den kompletten Strunk in Scheiben und brate sie - schmecken ein bisschen wie Artischocken, köstlich.... Oder für Suppen verwenden... nix wegwerfen oder kompostieren, man kann auch die Blätter verwenden

you dont have to cut so much of the stems off. Even if you used them as compost, it is still a big waste because you cut away way too much of the outer layer. Just a few strokes of the peeler will do.

Don't cut the outer layer off the stalks! They are not bitter and they contain all that nutrition that was grown, sold, transported and then bought. It doesn't need to get thrown in the bin because you're too cheffy to eat it!

I'm actually making broccoli for dinner right now as we speak add chocolate florets off and then I just cut the stem into sticks spread some lemon on them and eat them raw. Bomb Diggity snack

The stems also contain the most of the beneficial antioxidant compounds in the plant. If you want your body to make more glutathione, which is important for pretty much every detoxifying process that protects you from free radicals on a given day and helps prevent cancer, eat some broccoli stalks.
