I think i need a green goddess salad with crispy chickpeas now. That looked incredible omfg. AND THAT PLANTAIN DESSERT?!? I need asap. What a delicious day. Loved this
I can imagine eating that "nature's cereal" in the summer on the super hot day for a first breakfast when you wake up too warm, or in the afternoon, cause it looks delish even if the name is stupid
Abby I am overweight (I am also very short, and generically the women in my family were chubby) but just by following the general rule of adding protein and fiber (without making stuff taste bland), I have lost about 6 kilos. Not in a month but rather 3. But I got at a point where my ... What do you call it... Wright plateau, is smaller than I have ever been, personally. And I feel ok with this. You helped me see that losing weight is not a goal. Not timed. But rather.... A process. That one's body will go through, if you give your body what it needs. With 0 exercise, and not a day of feeling restricted or "punished", I lost more in 2 months than I ever did in my life, following "traditional diets" (aka stuff focused on weight loss rather than .. well, common sense) Pardon my English. I am Romanian.
I honestly don't think it's helpful to not distinguish the differences between being overweight and class 3 obese when talking about the relationship between weight and health, it just mystifies the (very real) health risks of obesity even more. Feel like it would have been better to leave that part out entirely instead of downplaying the health risks, that's the kind of sugar coating that kept me in denial about the impact my weight was having on my health
Totally agree. While I understand not wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings but people should be allowed to say speak factually without being accused of some phobia. It’s not what you say but how you say it.
I feel like I was ahead of the "Natures Cereal" trend...When I was younger my sister and I would put all of our fruits in a bowl, put orange juice in it and freeze it for an hour or two to get it cold and slushy. It was spectacular.....I may have to try again with my kids now.
To anyone unimpressed by Just Egg liquid or the microwave version, try it toasted in the toaster. We’ve tried the liquid, and it wasn’t our favorite. The pre folded ones are so good if you drop ‘em in the toaster, rather than microwaving. Delicious!
I came down here to say just the same thing! I have the frozen Just Egg toasted often for breakfast. Toasting it gets the best flavor (as opposed to microwave, oven, or stovetop). And the liquid is... meh. Good for baking, not for scrambles.
I’ve been vegan for almost 10 years, grew up in Detroit, and I’m a HUGE fan of Lizzo. I just want to point out Lizzo is an actual Popstar, she’s incredibly wealthy (love that for her). Being vegan- even in poorer neighborhoods in Detroit and beyond, doesn’t have to require so many ingredients and doesn’t have to be expensive. Loved this video!!
Same I grew up in poverty and in poverty I became vegan. I’ve been vegan for almost 12 years went vegan at 16, living in a household of 14 thousand a year for family of 4 an am still vegan and very healthy.
15:33 Her brown rice wine vinegar is probably "kurozu". It's a type of rice vinegar that is aged for a few years, during which it develops this color. It's also called "black vinegar".
Thank you for making me aware that lizzo never choose to be a/the spokesperson/face of bodypositivity but the media made her that 🙏🏻 She is just a (worldfamous) person trying to live her best life, not live up to a certain label other people forced onto her.
I wanted to add this episode was fun. Just healthy food and no talk about weird restrictive diets. Also, considering Lizzo has great energy, I like what she is doing over the thinner celebs tracking all their calories and macros.
I have had a severe egg allergy for as long as I can remember and for the longest time a tofu scramble has been my egg replacement. We Just Egg launched several years ago I was SO EXCITED to have an actual replacement for eggs and I really wanted to try them but being the skeptic I am looked up reviews and saw an overwhelming amount of hate towards the products that I didn't try them. But when Miss Lizzo came on the scene and gave them a glowing review I decided to look up people with allergies or those following a plant based diet and found the opposite they all mostly liked or loved the items. We like both the liquid and patty version of the products in my home. My toddler son likes the patties diced or sliced into strips and my one year old daughter likes the liquid scramble with crumbled bacon, sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, and fresh spinach 😍😋🤤. Now if they could keep the price at a reasonable rate we'd have A+ products in our books.
I tried it once it tastes strange like chemicals doesn’t it? I was bummed cuz it would’ve made my life easier with food allergies,,,maybe I need to try it again
@@peanutbutter4726 they spoil pretty quickly and if you get the liquid version and the bottle gets puffy/swollen and kind of explodes when you try to open it toss it out it's gone bad. I always have to check the date to make sure there's enough time to use it before it goes bad and because it's kind of pricey they sometimes sit on the shelf without getting tossed and replaced with fresh bottles. Both forms have a nice savory flavor and chewy/bouncy texture. The liquid cooks best in a nonstick skillet. I usually add a bit of salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to each form but if I make a scramble I add a strip of bacon, sautéed mushrooms & sweet bell peppers, and spinach.
Abbeys content has trully changed. I watched her post after I managed to get over my ED, now she kinda just says things that aren't correct. To flatter a certain type or part of her audience. So thankyou abbey but I'm kindly unsubbing, you're content is not uplifting, you call people wrong or diagnose them with EDs if they skip out on 1 meal or even fast and thats not what people with or overcame EDs do to eachother.
I'm from Costa Rica and we grow up with those banana covered on chocolate and nuts, but we do it put in half banana in chocolate and them put crushed peanuts or nuts on top. My mom used to made it and keep it in the fridge in summer ❤
I haven’t watched the full video yet but I just wanted to share that in Brasil 🇧🇷 where I was born, curves have been celebrated forever and if you go to a beach in Rio you’ll see women of all shapes, sizes, colors etc rocking their bikinis 👙 with Lizzo like confidence (I actually borrow my mom’s!). My family and many Brazilian people focus on health that allows our bodies to walk beachside, swim in the ocean… of course I have to mention that we’re all proud of our 🍑 s!
@@AbbeysKitchen my mom was feeding us HCCs and she didn’t even know it! I’m a Brazilian and Portuguese professional ballerina trained in Ukraine 🇺🇦 Russia 🇷🇺 and Romania 🇷🇴 ! After being bullied for being too thin, my mom thought I might find my calling in ballet. She was right! I’m probably the rare ballerina who actually eats everything (cheese is a major food group in my book). I love all fruits and vegetables but actually have to save them for my post performance dinner after dancing 9 hours on a working day! I love all Eastern European foods especially borscht! And all my former ballet coaches, artistic directors and other company members know that I HAVE to have my pre performance Nestlé Crunch chocolate 🍫
@@JuliasHairJourney on behalf of all women in Brasil 🇧🇷 I thank you 🙏🏻 But what makes me more proud is the fact that we all compliment each other. We appreciate others’ beauty with no jealousy. If you ever go to the motherland be prepared for random genuine compliments (especially about what we call our gifts to the world - 🍑s, I promise we are not creepy about it!).
Hey! Just to be clear, obesity is a definite indicator of poor health. Abbey and a lot of HAES activists jump around the issue by saying "it's not the sole indicator of health" but this is a logical fallacy that we call the 'red herring' fallacy. Just because it's not the sole indicator of health, doesnt mean weight is not one of the indicators of health, and using this kind of language is intended to mislead listeners. There are hundreds of studies showing obesity leads to conditions such as sleep apnea, diabetes, joint pain, cardiovascular disease, and countless others. They also say "you cannot assume someone is healthy or unhealthy from their size" and "skinny people can be unhealthy too". Again, these are intended to mislead you. Do not be tricked by wording. While you cannot assume someone is healthy or unhealthy if they have no obvious signs of disease (i.e a thin, fit person) you can know someone is healthy if they display obvious signs of disease (i.e obesity). There is no shame in being obese, but there is shame in lying to people and giving them inaccurate information about the health risks of obesity. People have the right to stay fat, but they must have the information so that that choice will be informed. It is disgusting that a registered dietician would lie to people like this and put their health at risk.
Abbey I LOVE these videos but all I could think about when you were making the wrap for breakfast is how soggy the cereal would be sitting in the milk while you made the wrap hahah but thanks for making these videos! I love your non shaming approach.
I love that you are doing vegan meals. I would love to see a few more vegan or vegetarian celebrities. I love the meal inspiration. Your videos are always so great and full of knowledge.
I love the idea of jackfruit as a protein source/meat substitute... but yeah, it doesn't have much protein and I feel I never get satiated while eating it. In my country, it's also ridiculously expensive. I stick to my soy proteins and beans. I'm going to buy some cabbage though!
I never understand people that judge us fat people for living ourselves. First, mind your business. Second, we are worthy of living ourselves at any size. People need to stop pretending they care about our health when really I just think they think fat people are less than.
She's a vegan n ppl think she eats fried chicken n bathes in gravy. Like leave her alone ! She loves herself ! Even if she looked like a victoria secret model, I still would love her.
@B she don't be eating that ! Lot of ppl are big doesn't mean they ain't healthy. I eat healthy n I have curves and a little meat on me but I can run faster then any skinny person out there. I love the gym n always active. Stop hating on ppl !! She loves herself n that has nothing to do with u so why does it bother you ?! Regardless she's beautiful and rich something u will never be
You can still over consume “healthy” foods, which Lizzo clearly does since even with her high level of movement she’s maintaining her unhealthily high weight
Abbey I think your messaging around obesity could cause serious harm. People who are this big and remain healthy/fit throughout their lives are very rare, as are people who eat a normal diet and are as big as Lizzo is. This weight puts stress on the whole body, from heart to joints. We have to recognize that obesity can have serious complications and often does. Shame doesn't work but blank acceptance is just as damaging. When one of your close relatives is obese and ill because of it or even when it just worsens an existing condition such as heart failure like in my father's case, these woke word salads mean nothing. It's okay to say that being 100 pounds overweight is a health problem.
Very kind and fair statement of truth. The truth has become hateful to many people, but it does not change what is truth. It is not living or supportive to promote lies.
Also I have a pro tip for those who make this style of enchilada, taco, or whatever, have a side of beans instead of trying to figure out some hack. It's fun to experiment, but it's not really necessary to reinvent the wheel.
Tip for making the salad dressing: go easy on the cashews. They make it sweet, but also thick and pasty if you have too many. The flavor was good but ours would have been better with like 1/8 cup of cashews. This is the downside of a recipe that has no measurements. I prefer to start with measurements and make it my own from there.
Those GIANT handfuls of both cashews and walnuts made me gasp! Waaay more than an entire day's serving just in that dressing. I'm not fat-phobic, but that's just a bit too much for one meal. On a side note: I'm not big on my salad swimming in dressing, so while the dressing sounded good, there's no way I would dump the entire blender full onto my one serving of salad! I know Abbey means well, but sometimes I think she goes too far in the other direction from restricting. You don't want to restrict, but it's also not necessary to go way overboard, either, just to prove you're not restricting!
I love your comments about salad and enjoying one not meaning a "diet or weight loss" reason. Years ago, one of my many, many failed attempts in dieting/weight loss, I tried the Dukan Diet,....before the first week, (and I'm talking 5 days, not 7), I was craving a basic salad so badly I thoroughly gave up. Hundreds of dollars wasted trying to commit to a diet that was going to work for me. Your HCC makes so much more sense nutritionally, financially and customizable. As always, thanks so much for your time and efforts!
Same, I frickin LOVE salad! As such, I cannot believe there are fad diets that almost completely eliminate vegetables (meat-based), I have a mate who expects to lose weight on eating just meat! He may lose weight bur gain heart disease... just sayin' 😊
I will say I do definitely find a difference between the just egg liquid and just egg patties. I enjoy both, but definitely both serve different purposes, and I would personally only use the patties on like a sandwich not as like a fried egg or a scramble it just doesn’t give the same effect as the liquid does for certain purposes ☺️
Anyone who actually thinks Lizzo eats healthy needs to step off their sycophant bandwagon and face reality. That woman does not eat healthy. Let's see her actually get healthy when she has to use an electric cart to get around and she's missing limbs because of diabetes. The videos she puts out with her eathing healthy is to try and quiet the crowd that criticizes her idea of "being fat is healthy". It's like she can say "See? I'm eathing more healthy than you and I'm fat. So it's not ME it's White Men and genetics that's making me fat." She's not healthy. We don't see her when she's alone. That woman sleeps alot, doesn't get around alot, and I can guarantee you if she doesn't have health issues now, she will. It's coming. I hope she lives long enough to enjoy her wealth and fame to its fullest. She does deserve it. She worked hard for it. Harder than many people and for that she's a hero. Also, she's facing lawsuits accusing her of sexual abuse fat shaming and a few other things. I hope she survies it all.
Grain based cereal has the weirdest history and a whole lot of pretty awful politics and environmental practices. But that's just multinational, industrialized, high profit food production in general.
Sure, but there are so many sustainability sourced/ethical cereals on the shelves today... for cheaper options, pick a vegan cereal from a country where it's history wasn't built on human suffering (not made in any imperialistic country/made in a former colony).
who is the "healthcare community"? Pretending obesity isn't a problem is misinformation. Pandering to people isn't going to help them. Very irresponsible of you as a "dietitian".
Jillian Michaels telling us that obesity is not the way isn’t fatphobic or any kind of phobic. I don’t understand why you would include that clip as if it’s bad advice. Being obese or overweight impacts your health negatively. Body positivity shouldn’t mean unhealthy and there is some level of objectivity to what constitutes health.
This channel is about GENTLE nutrition and using celebs recipes/what they eat as templates to teach and promote gentle nutrition. Abbey was examining and building up Lizzo's recipes, NOT dissecting her size or engaging in binary judgement (big vs small). The body positive movement is about not judging others bodies and accepting oneself no matter the size, it is not a MEDICAL platform to criticize under or over weight people, on the contrary it is a SAFE space for all!
Jillian Michaels was very disgusting in saying “theres nothing cool about diabetes” if she had any medical knowledge at all, which she doesn’t, she would know that she is spreading ablism. There are so many diseases including certain diabetes that have nothing to do with weight. It would have taken her SECONDS to elaborate “type 2” and “type 1 has nothing to do with weight” But she didn’t. And she didn’t for a reason, to promote herself, to put herself in the limelight because her popularity was dwindling. When influencers don’t explain things and make broad statements that causes mass amounts of harm. It doesn’t make those that are obese get fit; it just makes them angry. And it spreads more misinformation about type 1 diabetes. A disease that kills millions, has nothing to do with weight, and most of those suffering have eating disorders. If she was a good person she would have done better, but clearly she isn’t
I was a size 4, ran every day, and my doctor told me I was obese...I was 120. it caused my eating disorder. I will never forget being a teen and being terrified to step on a scale
i grew up not eating red meat (due to intolerance in the family) so it was chicken and turkey replacements but my momma hated cooking meat so we had a TON of meatless meals and to this day, i almost always choose tofu over anything else because the texture and taste is incredible. we also make jackfruit pulled pork sandos and they are amazing, i prefer it over regular pulled pork. i turned my meat and potatoes raised best friend / ex boyfriend into a man who can perfectly cook a tofu stir fry and now regularly eats plant based meals with no problem and no thought 😂 i do love a perfectly cooked steak but other than that, the less meat upbringing prevails!
Why do "those people" have to say something at all?! They aren't commenting on the weather or their take on the Russian vs Ukrainian war... this is a human being we're talking about!
Im good at pushing through when things get tough. I recently got diagnosed with RA, and am just getting back into working out after a year not doing it. I know its possible, and I just dealt with a yeat of joint pain before getting a diagnosis. I am good at pushing through when life doesnt go as planned
Yeah fuck the woman who actually has discipline and purpose in life other than eating, who has done something respectable. let's praise lizzo because we feel bad for her.
It is cruel to not acknowledge that Luzzo’s future is bleak. By 40 or 50 she will have numerous medical illnesses and be practically disabled. You are doing a complete injustice by hiding the truth to those that need to hear it. As a former morbidly obese person, I know exactly how many calories are being consumed day in and day out to have a high BMI. I also know exactly what it takes to loose weight, and it is a very difficult challenge that takes a very long time. If she does not start tackling her weight, her health will start rapidly declining as she ages. I hope anyone reading this that needs to hear it, that they take action before it is too late. Damage that is not yet visible is occuring every day accumulating until later in life you are officially diagnosed with diseases you could have avoided. No matter how much money you earn or how successful you may be it is all for nothing if you do not have your health.
I love eating fruit for dessert instead of a classic dessert most days. Thank you for telling me I’m not part of the diet culture! Don’t get me wrong….I love I good chocolate chip cookie!!
I know, right?! Also, to flavour up plain potato chips, make a dipping sauce by mixing equal amounts of mayo (or egg free vegan mayo) and ketchup in a bowl (add some yellow mustard for tangyness) into a small bowl, this is called Golf Sauce in South America... delicious!
You think Lizzo was fast in listing the green goddess dressing ingredients? Try baked by Mellissa's version who I'm pretty sure started the trend. Had to listen to that narration 30 times! LOL!
Whoooooo the fuck pours cereal like that? Lmao by putting their hand in and grabbing some?! I've never seen that done. Am I doing it wrong?? I've been straight pouring it from the box lmao
I watched a Lizzo tiny desk concert and cried! I grew up in a time where it was sooooo hard to feel worthy of living a full life when you don't fit the body standard. I aspire to her level of self love, beyond "body positivity" or whatever else she gets put on her.
Sometimes I just think that some people are just chubby or bigger and that's just their natural state and long as they're okay then it's nothing to worry about.
Is there an official directory of registered dietitians? I'm seeing one now that only wants me to eat the foods on her list and under 1200 calories a day. I would...like a second opinion but I don't know where to start. I'm in the US.
Unfortunately Abby (and I!) Are are Canadian so I don't think she'd be able to speak closely to good sources, but I just did a quick Google search and the dietician directory website seems pretty solid!
Have you checked with your insurance company? Many companies offer a search of in-network providers that will even include things like RDs. Starting there is always a good idea because then you know they'll be in-network.
Wow, that's a crappy dietitian you're seeing! What State are you in? I'm in NZ but have worked with US clinicians in many states, so might be able to recommend one that subscribes to gentle nutrition.
Also, I doubt she exercises as much as a lean skinny model or body builder. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exercise that much. She probably just runs on the treadmill for a little bit plus. She only posts what she does. That's healthy, your activeon the internet. Sometimes, if it was true, she wouldn't. Only do it sometimes you don't know what's behind the scenes. You don't know if she Benjit's or sleeps throughout the day. You don't know what she does, and and the BMI, I don't think we really need to know what her b. M, I, is, we can just tell that she's unhealthy. By her size. And yes, it feels like you are glorifying obesity not trying to start a fight. I'm just saying it really does. Sure, you don't have to look the strongest to be really strong, there's people like my cousins who are super skinny and really malnourished . And he has a 6 pack, but I exercise a lot, but I don't have abs or muscle that pops out that much, and I can still beat the shit out of my cousin 😂
I also am not a bubble tea fan. Never have been a fan of tapioca pearls, mochi, or flan. It’s just always made me gag. I don’t know why! As an Asian child my dislike for these things really upset the adults in my life.
Abbey I've been watching you for a few years now, but I have to say, your recent editing choices/ multiple locations/ laid back talking is really REALLY a hit for me! I loved your vids before, when you sat face on in your old kitchen, but these videos are soooo dynamic and fun to watch. Also, love your stripped back chatting during the cooking parts. Great work and props to you and your team! :)
I was feeling bad about how weird my dinner is (trying to make it balanced) and the candle toothpick has made me laugh and feel better about my own patchwork dinner 😂
Why do people associate vegan with healthy? plant based protein is not the same as real meat. Sometimes vegan snacks can have way more calories than normal snacks. The key for a healthy diet is moderation and a eating a variety of foods. And of course limiting processed foods.
Although its a nice gesture to become plant based, these people forget that an awful lot of animals and insects die or lose their habitat when the farmers are harvesting the land for the plant lovers. Even plants are living organisms themselves as well. Unfortunately none of us are perfect in the quest to eat and live a life.
I love plantains, and I love Lizzo!! This video was great ☺️ it's ridiculous that people can't have a normal conversation about Lizzo without personal attacks or talking about her weight.
Whisk JUST egg with a splash of almond milk and add FreshJax tofu scramble mix. Then, microwave it in a bowl for 1 min 20 seconds. It becomes a fluffy, eggy, scramble. Perfect for a breakfast sandwich!
I'm Puerto Rican and grew up eating plantains 😊 Just a note for anyone wanting to try sweet plantains - the ones Abbey used looked like unripe ones to me (the peel is green, texture is stiff and more like potatoes/starchy). When we eat them sweet (called maduros or amarillos) we wait for the peel to basically go black and yellow, that's when they're ripe/soft and the taste is much closer to bananas. When we fry them up unripe they're squished into a patty (tostones) and it's one of my favorite comfort foods 🤤.
We have coffee cups of this size (the red one in the beginning) in Europe, but also much smaller. Here, the red one is by no means "ridiculously small"... And nor are the smaller ones.
Yeah, I'm half Italian but when I went to Italy a few years back I wanted to try an espresso coffee... I laughed at the ridiculous tiny cup it came in, but when I took a sip I understood why; its strong as heck! 😂
Great video f so many reasons. Shout out to a nutritionist respecting some delish vegan food. Thank Abby. Thanks Lizzo. Plantains. Always wondered what to do w them
