Asian here! I am sure abbey’s suggestion for the instant noodles is awesome and thanks for your awesome creations! Here is the Asian way of turning ramen into a hunger crushing combo. Bonus is, it doesn’t take more time so it is still an instant meal. only put in half of the seasoning packet, add in an egg or two halfway through cooking for extra protein, and towards the end add a handful of chopped spinach, peas and some bokchoy for extra fiber and taste. My mom loves to finish it off with some lemon juice for extra zing. Add sriracha to taste

I love that Abbey mentioned getting candy she likes now! I'm a long time viewer and remember seeing a halloween video where she gave a tip to "buy halloween candy you don't enjoy so you won't binge on it" and thinking "wow this doesn't seem to fit with what she usually stands for" and it's a nice reminder that even people you admire for their healthy relationships with food had to grow to get there.

Something I love about this series is that its the exact opposite of diet culture tells you. Basically take away most of the “good stuff” like taking the breading off of fried chicken or the cheese/crust off pizza 🙄🙄 But Abbey says no! ADD things to keep you satiated create a well balanced meal! At first It was hard to get over the mental block of adding more to an already calorically dense food but it seriously works!

Yes, same. It pisses me off so much when people call ramen "junk food." It's a bit high in sodium and not the most nourishing, but no one is forcing you to eat it by itself (or even use the entire seasoning packet). You can bet the Japanese aren't eating plain broth and noodles with nothing else and calling it a meal 🙄 You can throw any protein and veggies into ramen, or eat them alongside, and it's very nutritious, filling, and delicious.

Honestly today I realised that eating fast-food gives me so much satisfaction that I could go 6 hours straight without thinking about food-and I am an ex-binger. The Hunger Crushing Combo was the best thing I learned from Abbey. It opened my eyes and made me understand how I feel after a meal and why. I only now see a bit of improvement in my disordered eating and I am so happy.

Thank you so much for this. It's honestly one of the most valuable series a dietitian could possibly make. Your disclaimer in the beginning was extremely helpful as well - it's perfectly fine to regularly eat these foods on their own, but including them in balanced, healthy meals can strip them of their novelty and power. Not to mention, help us avoid overeating them and not feeling the best physically. I got honest recently and finally admitted to myself that I don't actually WANT to eat a half gallon of ice cream or an entire bag of chips in a sitting. It doesn't make me feel good to eat that much of most foods in one sitting. What I want are moderate serving sizes of these "trigger" foods on a semi-regular basis.
@L_W748
@L_W748 2 года назад
One of my holiday trigger foods are definitely the sweets like cookies, pie, candy, hot cocoa, super sweet lattes, etc. Basically just the festive foods that come around once a year so you feel like you have to enjoy them while it lasts! I’d love to be able to find some way to enjoy these foods while feeling satiated and not binge on them!

I start eating holiday treats when they come in stock, not sure if it's wise or not but by the time the party season comes around I have already had my favourites. I will say now that I'm older I just don't enjoy over eating so I tend to eat normal meal sizes even at thanksgiving etc.

@scubacwgrl
@scubacwgrl 2 года назад
Good suggestion! I'm thinking cake probably isn't too bad as far as the fat and protein parts since you've got eggs and milk in most recipes. Maybe add almonds or walnuts as a side snack or topper to a slice (if you're not allergic) to get some fiber in there? A J's suggestion of a glass of milk also adds to the fat and protein value. If it's in budget or available, a filtered milk like Fairlife has a higher protein content than normal milk. Thanks for asking about this, cause I'm struggling with ideas on how to really increase the fiber on this one without eating a side salad along with it lol.

Great video, Abbey! These examples of HCCs are so helpful, especially for those days when I don't feel like eating or get take out and still want to feel satisfied and eat a balanced meal. I used to struggle with an ED (restrict/binge) and it's so awesome to be able to eat all foods in moderation without feeling guilty or overeating. I just had two pan-fried tomato basil chicken sausages on toasted rolls with sautéed red bell pepper, cabbage/broccoli/kale mix, cheese and ketchup and it was delicious 😋

That shrimp curry looks absolutely amazing!! Makes me want to make curry now too! For the next holiday-themed one, apple crumble or apple pie would be my suggestion! The sugar content is usually what induces some anxiety in me 🥺.

I don't have trigger foods, but I love these because the hunger crushing combo has changed how I build meals. Also, team red vines here, but I'm allergic to red food coloring so I don't eat them very much anymore.

You should look for Red Vines Made Simple! Their ingredients are just "Cane Sugar, Wheat Flour, Radish Extract (Added for Color), Natural Berry Flavor with Other Natural Flavors, Citric Acid." I actually prefer them over normal Red Vines. They originally came in mixed berry but they just introduced a cherry flavor as well that I haven't tried yet.

I absolutely love your channel! I come here all the time, especially when those feelings of guilt creep up again and it has helped me so much with my mental health and self confidence! Thank you so much for this! If you do a fear food episode again I kinda have an endless list for the holiday season but I think if I had to pick two it would be christmas cookies/cakes and hot chocolate... Maybe that would be something? But whatever the next episode of fear crushing food combos brings, I can't wait to see it!

I've learned more about listening to my body from your videos and I've stopped listening to all the diet culture BS that hasn't helped me at all yo-yo back and forth the last 10 years. Watching your videos has really helped my mindset so I don't fall into that restrict/binge cycle. I still have a lot of work to do, but I feel my relationship with food is the healthiest its been in my entire life. Keep up the great work and thank you!

Abbey should make it clear that this food is not for people with Heart Disease, diabetes etc..Mixing some healthy fats with fast type food does not cancel out unhealthy foods. Look at the calories..This food will cause weight gain for many people.

Yum that onion dip looks so good I'm totally gonna make it tomorrow! We usually make our own pizza and I like to serve it exactly like that, with a salad when it's warm or a soup when it's cold. So many good ideas! ps. if you like goat cheese you should try it on pizza with broccoli rabe and sautéed shiitake mushrooms!

I actually had a Pot Noodle on Monday for the first time ever, and with Abbey in mind I made it into a hunger-crushing combo with tofu and loads of veggies. It was so tasty, and I didn't feel panicked after it like I expected, because it was balanced and made me feel good. I've been in ED recovery since June and Abbey's tips are helping so much with incorporating more foods into my diet.

As I live in Japan, sometimes I just need to take to packaged instant ramen for a quick meal (especially since Japanese houses normally don't come with an oven so we only have an Airfryer which isn't suited for quick oven tray dinners). I usually use Shin-Ramyun, a korean brand, which is super spicy, because I like my ramen very spicy (and make my husband sweat 😆). To make it more filling I will add veggies like cabbage, onions, some type of green beans, mushrooms or whatever I have as leftovers. Then I will add in some tofu and egg for protein, because I usually don't like meat in my instant ramen, and top it off with some natto (fermented soy beans) at the end which have the health benefits of fermented foods while also adding in more protein. If I am decadent, I also put some cheese on top. It's spicy, it's satisfying and it also is very filling. Thank you for making these videos and giving us new inspiration! I will definitely try the "chicken burger" one. I love to eat fried chicken but I never knew how to incorporate it into a healthy meal so you just made my day a little better by giving me this inspiration.

I make an amazing, simple Greek yogurt everything dip that’s literally just full fat Greek yogurt mixed with everything but the bagel seasoning (and you need to let it rest in the fridge for an hour or so). It’s so good with chips, pretzels, and/or a nice crunchy veggie! As for fear foods in the future, can you do hot cocoa/chocolate? I love it in the winter but I feel like it’s such a sugar bomb! Is there a way we could maybe balance it out?
