Thank you for your informative video. What route should an international applicant (seeking a career change) take who has a first degree, a master's, and a PGCE all from their country, as well as two years of teaching experience (mid 2000's)? I also have Maths and English o level certificates, and I'm a CPA with many years of experience.

What would you say is the easiest starting point. I know it’s a tough career, but I want to ease into it. Get a grasp of how the courses go and the training. Note: I’m not into university. So if you can advice whilst avoiding university options, that would be great. But if it’s not possible get into teaching full time without university experience: then I understand and I’ll have to bite the bullet. Thank you in advance.

You do require a degree unfortunately, however, a teacher training apprenticeship is currently being discussed, so do research in case that seems more up your street!

Can u do primary education with QTs and then PGCE?
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary 4 дня назад
You can do it afterwards, but it's manageable simultaneously. It's the QTS you need to teach, the PGCE is just for academic development really. If you would prefer doing a QTS course without the assignments, it's not compulsory to do a PGCE afterwards. Personal preference x

Everyone uni will have a different entry requirement, a bit like any uni course, so you'll just have to look at their requirements. BTECs will be fine, as long as they provide you with enough UCAS points xx

Hey thank you for a very informative video! 😌 I just have a question I really appreciate if you could help. I have been offered a place at uni to do the childhood, education and youth studies undergraduate degree. I haven't achieve my GCSE maths and science C grade or above but I did have a BTEC Level 3 qualification and a level 2 nvq so I was unsure how I got given an offer with only those and not a pass in my maths and science. Would I still be able to progress further to do a PGCE after my course and do training to become a teacher? Or do I need to do my Maths and Science before I do the course even if I've recieved an offer. Thank you for your help! - Hollie xx
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary Год назад
Unless it's changed since when I did it, the system used to be you COULD get an offer, but it was conditional provided you passed the GCSEs. If you didn't obtain the minimum requirement, you would not then be able to continue onto the course x

if you have a degree in a subject very closely related to a subject but not the thing itself will schools generally accept you for secondary? eg i am with linguistics degree but going for modern foreign languages, i know some training courses might accept this but will it affect anything else more serious later on?
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary Год назад
If you're talking about chances of securing a job afterwards, loads of different factors come into this. There's no set answer. If you've passed your training though, your experiences on that course and the qualification will have more of a say in you getting shortlisted than your degree. Eg. I've met some primary teachers that did a degree in law before training, but they still got jobs. Your first step is just going for it and applying for training 😊

Is it harder to get into school direct compared to uni led for primary PGCE
@PetitePrimary

I'm not sure if official harder but school direct courses definitely have fewer places so it may be more competitive/places fill quicker. Will you be applying for 2023?

PGCE or M.Ed is better for who want to become a teaching professional ? I have completed Mtec in computer science .
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary 2 года назад
Most teacher training courses do a PGCE alongside it but neither are what you NEED to teach. It is a QTS which means a qualified teacher status which you need to teach (unless you want to teach at uni level but in that case you either need to be doing a PhD or have a lot of years of experience in a specific industry). Hope that helps 😊

I'm unsure you could get onto any route without passing GCSE maths first. Alternatively, you could try apply but they might make it a conditional offer that you pass your GCSE maths first

Hi Annelies, I'm in my last year of my BA what do I do next?- I would like to teach in secondary schools but from talking to teachers they say why on earth do you want to be a teacher🤣 then say 'you must do a masters' what does this mean? PGCE? or do I just choose a master's I'm interested in then a PGCE?
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary 2 года назад
Hi Oliver, To become a secondary teacher, you must apply to a course to obtain a QTS. PGCE is an additional qualification but is not compulsory to teach. The QTS is the compulsory part. This can be done through applying for teacher training, writing a personal statement and then choosing your provider. Happy to send you my link to the application video I've made xx

Hi what is the lowest cost option post graduation to become a primary school teacher. Many of the apprenticeships offered are for secondary teaching. For reference I’m doing a degree in English Language and Linguistics
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary 2 года назад
Lowest cost option after salaried route and apprenticeship is to get a bursary for some specific secondary subjects. These vary and primary is not paid for. There are no cheaper routes sadly. Unless salaried, all postgraduate routes cost the same £9250

Hello, I've just started looking at career pathways and wondering if I can get some advice? I don't know if I want to be a primary school teacher or secondary? Also I was wondering if I went to a school as a student am I still aloud to teach there I I become a teacher?

Hi Niamh, there are certainly pros and cons to primary teaching and secondary teaching. You can certainly try and experience both, however, unless there is a vacancy after you pass your teacher training, and you are successful in your application and interview, there is no guarantee you will get a job in the same school. Hope that helps xx

Most of the teachers I know regret getting into it. It can be an extremely stressful and nasty job, especially as you get higher up the ladder. My wife is a Head of school teacher, she's been doing it for 20 years. She has just handed in her notice, which I'm really pleased about.

What advice would you give a creative who is truly passionate about music but has a degree in education and teaching supply for 3 years please. Not sure whether to train for QTS
@PetitePrimary
@PetitePrimary 11 месяцев назад
Sorry, I've only just seen this comment! Have you decided on your next steps yet? If you'd like to teach music, absolutely go for it! If not, you could always try and run local choirs or orchestras without QTS but it'd still be a great experience. If you've been supply teaching for 3 years, you could see if you would be considered for a salaried teacher training position? Xx
