Hi doctor...i lost 20 kgs in a span of 4 months....i was crash dieting and ive been losing my hair since then...its been 13 months now and im still losing a lot...the front part of my hair is almost visible...i got my blood work done a few months back but it was normal...my hairfall reduced in between but now it has started all over again...im a 19year old female...what do i do...pls reply
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi wet tissues, Sorry to hear about your problem. The stress on your body from crash dieting can cause temporary hair shedding called telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium does not require medical intervention for shed hair to grow back. It is possible to have pattern hair loss at the same time, but pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning over a long period, and it does not improve over time unless it's treated. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi The dreamer, Sorry to hear about your problem. Telogen effluvium is temporary hair shedding due to severe stress, not hair thinning. However, it is possible to have telogen effluvium concurently with pattern hair loss. A proper physical examination is needed to determine what you have. I hope this helps you.

Hi Rahul Phukan, Sorry to hear about your problem. You do need a physical examination for a proper diagnosis of the causes of your hair loss. Hair shedding, which you see on your pillow, is not pattern hair loss. Pattern hair loss is a progressive genetic condition where hair things gradually, so it doesn't happen suddenly like you have described. Hair shedding due to stress, and pattern hair loss can occur concurrently, but there is no way of telling what you have until your scalp is examined in consultation. I hope this helps you.

Hi NejmaG1, It is testosterone that affects hair growth in women with PCOS, not DHT. Usual hormone therapies for PCOS include testosterone blockers which are contained in the contraceptive pill, or spironolactone. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Awesome video. I thank you. It was quite informative. I have a really special case with my hair I need answers to. I am a man, 27 years old. Judging from how fast the shedding happened (which was under 2 months), I can assume the stressful event happened in January-February 2021. I noticed less hair on the top in May/June 2021, and it wasn't before I took a haircut in July 2021 I noticed extreme hair loss, 3-4 months after. I remember I did have full hair in April and the first part of May. At the end of May and June 2021. When I had a haircut I could see that my head had gone through an extreme hair loss. I had lost 50-60 % of the hair stripes on my scalp. I noticed that my hair was a lot thinner and I could see less hair density on the crown of my head. But not only the crown, but a hair loss over the whole scalp of my head. I find it strange to be Androgenic Alopecia with a rapid hair loss in such a short amount of time. I am suspecting Temporary Shedding or Telogen Effluvium since the hair loss was extreme and very rapid. Now after 6 months, I can't really say I have noticed a baldness pattern or any sign of improvements. I have used Nisim regrowth shampoo and scalp extract, but can't see any significant difference after 5 months. I feel like this began once I had a chalazion on my left eye, which is still there, but much smaller. I am suspicious of that since the rapid hair loss began the moment the chalazion appeared. Dear Amiya, should I contact a doctor or dermatologist about this or should I wait to see if the scalp extract/shampoo has an effect, or until the chalazion is gone? As far as I know, I have only an uncle which is bald. He didn't have any bald spots on his head before he was in his late 40s. None of my grandparents were bald. Not my father either. I have 5 brothers and 4 sisters, none of them show any sign of baldness, and one of my brothers is almost 40 years old. So I have my doubt about hereditary baldness or Androgenic Alopecia. What do you think? I am really stressed out about my hair. :(
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 2 года назад
Hi zirak93 - 2, Sorry to hear that. I suggest you have it diagnosed with dermatologist since telogen effluvium (temporary stress-induced hair shedding) and pattern hair loss (progressive hair thinning) can happen concurrently. Also, the genes for androgenetic alopecia can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it is even possible that you have them from a family member you’ve never even met. I hope this clarifies things for you.

I am currently going through telogen effluvium. It’s was very frightening to see such hair loss, but we were able to trace it back to a traumatic event and illness 3-4 months ago. The hair loss is coming from all areas of my scalp, but when looking the shafts if hair, however, I’m not seeing the white bulb at the end. My question for you is this, ‘If there is no white bulb at the end of the hair shaft, does that still fit within the diagnosis of telegenic effluvium? Will the hair still grow back if it doesn’t have the white bulb?’ There is no dermatologist in the place where I live, and it will be weeks before I get an appointment to see one in another city. Having this information will certainly be helpful for me, and useful information for when I see the dermatologist. Thank you

Hi Deborah Bungay, Sorry to hear about your problem. It does sound like telogen effluvium from what you describe. You can recover from telogen effluvium without the need of medical intervention or medication, as shed hair does grow back. The while bulb you see, or don't see in some strands is likely keratin, or dead skin. Your hair should grow back regardless if there is a bulb or not, as the hair follicle is still in the scalp, giving it the ability to grow hair again. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hello, I used a conditioner and it made my hair fall out a lot. The very first day I used excessive hair strands fell out as i was applying it. I never had any hair fall issues like that with any product before. I have stopped using that conditioner, but I am still experiencing hair shedding. My blood test were normal and i did not have any significant stress. I notice that the hair that falls out has white bulb at the end. Most strands are long and some are short baby hairs. Please give any tips/advice for recovery/regrowth of my hair. I started taking biotin daily. I am not sure if this is telogen effluvium or something else. Please help
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 2 года назад
Hi Atul Surya, Sorry to hear that, but it's not clear what is causing your hair shedding. The white bulb is usually dead skin, or keratin, and not the hair follicle. Telogen effluvium usually doesn't require medical treatment for the hair to grow back. I suggest you have a proper scalp examination to determine the cause of your hair loss. If you can’t see us for an examination, I suggest you see a local doctor for a consultation. I hope this helps you.

In the shower I see a good amount of hair as well as when I brush my hair. This has never happened to me before! I'm freaking out. I did stop my birth control pills about five months ago. Not sure if it's that. My hair shedding is mostly by my temples. Please help!

Hi Katherine Mateo, Sorry to hear about your problem. Since the contraceptive pill does introduce a steady supply of estrogen to your system, stopping the pill can reduce estrogen levels, which in turn can cause temporary hair shedding. Hair shedding can be a result of changes of hormone levels, or from stress. Hair shedding is usually a temporary condition, and hair does grow back, usually without any medical intervention. You may want to consult your gynecologist or an endocrinologist about hormonal changes from stopping the pill. I hope this helps you.

Hi Aniket Kumar Singh, As explained in the video, pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi gptoqkc, The vast majority of patients only need one treatment, but for some patients with advanced hair loss they receive a second treatment at 15 months to 2 years to build on results of the first treatment, or to thicken fine hair growth from the first treatment. The second treatment for the few patients who require does not have an additional cost of treatment. Hi Samantha Stevens, COVID-related hair loss is usually temporary hair shedding due to stress, which by itself doesn't require treatment for shed hair to grow back. However, it is possible to have genetic pattern hair loss, and stress related hair shedding concurrently. Therefore, an examination is needed to confirm if there is concurrent genetic pattern pattern hair loss before the treatment can be recommended. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hello!what a wonderful video! I am 28 and im losing 200 hairs a day for the past couple of months all with the white bulp attached to them (this has happened in the past years too even though i notice it more the last years, maybe before i was younger and not paying attention i dont know), so this means that maybe it's seasonal shedding or telogen effluvium? is it worth taking vitamins like the solgar skin nails and hair ones for example to help with the situation or is it no worth and i should leave it alone to go away? I just see huge lumps of hair falling out and it's devastating but the white bulp thing gives me the hope that it's seasonal and it will soon grow back! If you could share your opinion I would really appreciate it! Great job once again and thank you!

@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi YGiann, It's normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, so more than that could be telogen effluvium. Shedding is not hair loss since shed hairs grow back. Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning after hair naturally sheds, and a delay in regrowth. Telogen effluvium usually doesn't require medical intervention for shed hair to regrow, but it is a good idea to get a proper diagnosis for a doctor. Were you under severe stress recently that may have triggered it?

@@AmiyaPrasadMD yes actually in January i went through a big stressor! what I have noticed is that the hair that falls has a white bulb attached to it and also that when I dont wash my hair (which i try to do since people say its good to leave as many days as possible between washes) so much more hair comes out and my scalp/hair is in 'pain' when unwashed and i try to put it in a ponytail for example. So can it be seasonal shedding that is getting worse when the hair is unwashed and i should just wash more often? also the white bulb thing is a good sign that hair in growing under and that was just hair that was pushed out from the new ones? Thank you so much for the help its unbelievably appreciated!
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi@@Grace.Shelby., Shed hair does grow back, and keeping it unwashed does not affect hair growth, so you can resume your normal washing routine. The white bulb you are seeing is not the follicle, but dead skin or keratin. Shed hair grows back since the follicle is still in place. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi doctor, quick question, if I may-- My name is Nick and I'm a 37 year old male. My hairline has been thinning little by little for the past couple years but is still fairly natural looking, with no other signs of balding anywhere else. That is until a couple weeks ago when I woke up to find a bald spot the size of a kernel of corn about an inch above my hairline, directly above my nose. Could this be from stress since there's no other bald spots that would suggest alopicea? If so, will it grow back? I did have an extremely traumatic event which happened a few months back so I'm hoping that's what caused this. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi &ThenThereWasX, Bald spots are not associated with pattern hair loss as pattern hair loss is hair thinning throughout the scalp. It is more likely stress-related hair shedding, which if confirmed, doesn't require medical treatment for shed hair to grow back. I hope this clarifies things for you.

You are too young for female pattern hair loss, which things hair throughout the scalp, and not just at the sides. Hi S G, Hair loss related to hypothyroidism, or hypothyroidism with a concurrent cause of hair loss needs to be properly diagnosed before a treatment can be recommended. As it's not clear if you are male or female, you can refer to these videos on how we diagnose, and treat male, and female pattern hair loss: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BmwyXS0D5tg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2WhELyekG4A.html

I stopped applying minoxidil to my temples after two months, I am now experiencing the post minox shed but I am now diffuse thinning as well when I wasn’t before. Can stopping minoxidil cause telogen effluvium even where it wasn’t applied?
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi max0002, Minoxidil can affect areas where it was wasn't directly applied. Minoxidil appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. When minoxidil use is stopped, hairs delayed from shedding can shed at the same time, which is why the amount is higher than normal. You should have the thinning properly evaluated to determine if you have pattern hair loss that needs more effective treatment than just minoxidil. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Sagar K, Sorry to hear about your problem. While an examination is needed for a definitive diagnosis, it is more likely to be chronic telogen effluvium. Male pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. I suggest you have this properly diagnosed with a physical examination. If you can't see us for a diagnosis, I suggest you see a local doctor for an examination. I hope this helps you.

Can a doctor look at the scalp and immediately tell if its chronic telogen effluvium? Asking because my partner went to two doctors. The first said they couldn't tell for sure if its male pattern baldness or not and the second said they're almost positive it's male pattern baldness. Both did say his scalp looks healthy. He's on several medications and he has severe anxiety. It started suddenly literally 8 or 9 months ago. It was all over his pillow every morning and coming out in the shower all over his hands in clumps all over his head. Then it almost stopped maybe two or three times for a few weeks. He has severe scalp pain all over and the hair loss appears to be all over his head. He's in his 20s and had a full head of thick hair last year
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 4 года назад
Hi Elle Belle, Sorry to hear about your partner's problem. Shedding clumps of hair is likely due to his anxiety, as telogen effluvium is triggered by severe stress. Shed hair usually grows back without medical intervention. Male pattern hair loss is not hair shedding, but gradual hair thinning where shed hair grows back progressively thinner. It is possible to have both conditions at the same time. For male pattern hair loss, hair thinning can be diagnosed with a microscope exam to the scalp, and receding hair at the hairline and crown. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hey Dr. Prasad. Thanks for the video. I have hair thinning on just one side of my temple, particularly on the right side. I have a widow's peak since childhood on the right side of the temple but now my hair has become thin there. Rest my scalp is heathy. I have very long hair (till my tailbone) but that thinning affects my confidence to tie my hair in a ponytail. I'm under lot of stress and have a bad habit of plucking my split ends. Please suggest if it's telogen effluvium or any other condition.( I'm a 25 years old girl and my menstrual cycle is regular).
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi Alice patrick, It's not clear what you have as female pattern hair loss is diffuse thinning over the whole scalp, and telogen effluvium is temporary hair shedding due to severe stress. Plucking hair is a separate psychological condition called trichotillomania. A physical examination is needed to properly diagnose what you have. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Muhammad Usman, All our Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent to a sudden hair shed. However, I still prescribe finasteride for our younger male patients with very early and aggressive hair loss due to high DHT-sensitivity as Hair Regeneration is not a DHT-blocker. Older Hair Regeneration patients with less DHT-sensitivity, like men who develop pattern hair loss in their 40s and older can have the Hair Regeneration treatment without using finasteride concurrently. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Christian, Sorry to hear about your problem. Shedding 200-300 hairs a day is likely telogen effluvium, which is temporary hair shedding due to severe stress. Shed hair does grow back without medical treatment. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but the hair will grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when those hairs grow back thinner after every shed, there is a delay in regrowth, and the number of regrowth cycles become more limited. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Dear Dr Prasad, please help me. I'm 28, male, and my scalp is irritated with small red sores/bumps and my hair is thinning on top and above the ears and maybe other spots. This is very rapid. It seems that the the thinning of the hair all over comes with the irritated scalp and sores and redness. You can barely see it but I'm pale and have red hair with short haircut so I can. I also noticed many of my hairs becoming black and some even white in my head and beard in the last few months. This is very alarming and I have no idea how to deal with this. Especially the top of my scalp is becoming so thin I am ashamed of going out. Please tell me if there is any hope ? I hope it is not MPB because the redness and sores aren't usually accompanied, right ?

Hello Dr. I am a 22 year old female and I exactly don't know what's happening to my hair because in the past 3 years, I have experienced "On and Off" behaviour of my hair. This means that for few months of the year, my hair grows well and I have a full head of hair and average hair shedding but after that, for another few months, it's shedding like hell, approx. 200 hairs everyday and my scalp becomes visible. I can relate this condition to stress (as I am a medical student, waking up till 5 in the morning for studies during exams) sometimes and other times I think I am on a poor diet (less importance to breakfast). I fear of not getting my hair back because I lose so much hair during that time. Do you think I am suffering from chronic telogen effluvium? What should I do to stop this hell cycle? I have already been in this cycle for 3 times in 3 years and now I fear of not getting my hair back. BTW, I have started taking biotin supplements to support my hair from a week only. Is it going to help? Please, please help Doctor.
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 4 года назад
Hi 10 Aishwarya Dhanraj, It is possibly chronic telogen effluvium due to severe stress if it happens cyclically. Telogen effluvium actually doesn't require medical treatment, but you do need to manage the stress that triggers it. Biotin helps with hair health and growth, but it's not a treatment for pattern hair loss (which you don't sound to have as it's progressive hair thinning) and it doesn't stop hair shedding. See what happens a few months after you reduce your stress, and see if things improve, as there really is no treatment for hair shedding. I hope this helps you.

Hi Pritisha Nand, Sorry to hear about your problem. It is possible to have telogen effluvium (increased hair shedding due to severe stress) and female pattern hair loss (progressive hair thinning) at the same time. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have an even increased hair shed. While telogen effluvium require medical treatment, you can refer to these videos on how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss, including why our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients don't need to use minoxidil after our injection treatment: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aTb_Evz1jIM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eIFL1-mrg0I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lbngJ1a5GIw.html

I had also dandruff during this period. The excessive hair loss stopped two weeks after the event happened after i started using anti dandruff shampoo. Now i am worried because my hair are much thinner than they used to be prior to the excessive hair loss that i faced a month ago. I would like you to tell me if this hair thinning is temporary( telogen effluvium) or it is male pattern baldness. Please sir if you see this i would like an answer. Thank you.
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 4 года назад
Hi John Wick, Sorry to hear about your problem. It's not likely to be pattern hair loss since it is uncommon at your age, and is gradual hair thinning, not sudden hair shedding. You likely have an issue with temporary hair shedding, and shed hair does grow back, usually without medical intervention. You may have less hair coverage now due to shedding, but unless the hairs are growing back thinner, you don't have pattern hair loss. It is possible to have both pattern hair loss and hair shedding, but not usually at your age. You can see a trichologist or dermatologist for a proper diagnosis, and have one with a microscope exam to see if hair is truly thinning. Other than that, I can't give you a clear diagnosis unless I examine your scalp personally. I hope this helps you.

Hi hey hey hey, An examination of your scalp by an experienced doctor is needed to confirm what your hair condition is. However, thinning due to pattern hair loss happens over years, not just a few weeks. You can see a local dermatologist for an examination. The genes for pattern hair loss can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it doesn't necessarily transfer from a parent. The cause of your mother's hair thinning would also need to be properly diagnosed before I confirm what the cause is. I hope this helps you.

Hi Fifi Aish, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hair shedding is not pattern hair loss, as pattern hair loss is gradual hair thinning. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. If it is more than this, you need to have it properly diagnosed by a doctor, but usually hair shedding can be treated easily, and the most common cause of hair shedding which is severe stress, doesn't need medical intervention. However, I still advise you see a doctor in your area for a proper diagnosis. I hope this helps you.

Hi Pawan ShreStha, DUPA is pretty rare, and DHT-blockers like finasteride or dutasteride are usually prescribed for males suffering from it. While minoxidil can also be used to treat DUPA, my pattern hair loss patients, and the few DUPA patients I treat don't need to use minoxidil after our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration injection treatment. Hi Jayclar VLOGS, Male pattern hair loss can be diffuse in some men, but I would have to examine or at least see your scalp to confirm the diagnosis before I can make specific treatment recommendations. Since your dermatologist has seen your scalp, you need to ask her for a definitive diagnosis. I can't give you a diagnosis without examining your scalp myself. I hope this helps you.

Hii Doc I started shedding all over the scalp (more than 100 hairs) in September 2019 after a stressful 3 months period. The shedding did slow down after 7-8 months and I started to see some regrowth as well but not that much. Then again in October 2020 I saw some shedding but It also stopped after 2-3 months. Then from December 2021 to May 2021 there was minimal to no shedding and I also gained some weight during those 6 months as I was really thin since my childhood(42 kg weight). I was taking weight gainer shakes and my weight increased from 42 kg to 56 kg. Then from to July I stopped taking weight gainer and lost 8 kgs of weight. In August 2021 I started to loose hair again which lasted till December. In Janaury to April 2022 now there is minimal shedding but I also worked on my weight. My hairs have become noticebly thin but there is no visible scalp and receding hairline. My question is am I suffering from chronic telogen efflivum or AGA or Both??

Hi preety singh, Sorry to hear about your problem. As explained in the video, treatment is not needed for telogen effluvium, and shed hair grows back without treatment. Minoxidil delays normal hair shedding, so if you stop using it, you can see more hair shedding. I would need to diagnose the cause of your hair loss before recommending specific treatments. If your hair loss is sudden shedding, and not progressive thinning over a long time, then treatment may not be needed. Hi Azeb Ahmed, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hair loss is not caused by changes in water, or "hard water" which is water with a lot of dissolved minerals. Hair looking greasy if you don't shampoo it for 2-3 days is normal. Losing weight drastically and quickly can stress the body, and cause temporary hair shedding, but the hair grows back. Hi doctor. I go through periods where I shed over 500 hairs a day and my hair will become noticeably thin. The hairs that are shed during this time are long. Also they seem to change color before they shed. They go from a normally pigmented healthy looking hair to dull and almost transparent. Also I’m able to easily pull hair out of any place on my scalp during this time. They will just fall out of my head. Then the long hairs will stop falling out and I’ll start shedding only short hairs. Do you have any idea what this could be? Thank you!

Hi cactus1721, Sorry to hear about your problem. You might have telogen effluvium, which is hair shedding due to extreme stress. Hello Doc. As i have male pattern hair loss i decided to start taking finasteride but i'm only 17. So do you think if blocking dht would cause a problem at this age ? And should i get any other treatments to maximize the effect of finasteride like having a prp or minoxidil ?
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 5 лет назад
Hi kağan kasapoğlu, If male pattern hair loss is confirmed by a doctor, then a DHT-blocker like finasteride is important at your age because you are likely highly DHT-sensitive if it starts this early. DHT-blockers slow hair thinning, but don't too much in thickening hair. I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, and can last up to 5 years and beyond, depending on the aggressiveness of the hair loss pattern. This treatment thickens thinning hair, and stimulates growth from dormant hair follicles. You don't need repeat injections periodically, and many older Hair Regeneration patients don’t need maintenance drugs like finasteride, but I prescribe finasteride for our younger male patients with very early and aggressive hair loss due to high DHT-sensitivity as Hair Regeneration is not a DHT-blocker. PRP injections for hair loss are needed indefinitely. Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent to a sudden hair shed. You can see more results of the Hair Regeneration treatment, and the importance of finasteride in this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fLSB-tE0gco.html

Hi Lolly Pop, You shouldn't be pulling your hair out aggressively to avoid damaging your hair follicles, but it is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day. An examination is needed to determine if you have hair thinning, which is an indicator for pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi doc, i'm 24 and pretty healthy, i started to shed a lot of hairs, the dermato told me "it's most probably Telogen Effluvium" 5 month later it has slow down from 400 to 100 hairs/day but i dont see a lot of regrowth, i've noticed that my hairs where finer and thinner, it looks like miniaturization. I started minox and fin 1 month ago and i dont know if the improvement is related to that or not, so got 2 questions: 1 -Can TE lower the shape of the hairs (hairs getin thiner overall my scalp) or is miniaturisation 100% a sign of an adrogenetic allopecia ? 2 -Can TE delay the regrow cycle (from 3-4 moth to 6 moth for example or the fact that i dont see the hairs i've shed 3 month ago coming back is 100% the sign of hair loss ?

@AmiyaPrasadMD 3 года назад
Hi Nofun top, First of all, you should not be taking finasteride unless it was prescribed as it is a prescription medication. That said, telogen effluvium does not cause hair thinning, only temporary hair shedding. Hair thinning is more likely pattern hair loss, which can occur concurrently with telogen effluvium. A delayed regrowth cycle is more likely pattern hair loss. You do need to be properly evaluated for pattern hair loss before treatment can be recommended. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Cha Camacam, Contraceptive pills are a form of hormone therapy, and the change of hormone levels and balance can cause hair shedding. You should talk to you prescribing doctor about this, and perhaps consider changing to a different pill with different hormones that may be better for your reactive hair shedding. I hope this helps you.

Hi MD ISMAIL, If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. The Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant hair follicles, but it cannot block DHT-formation. It's important to know that pattern hair loss isn't cured, but it can be managed so you have as much hair as possible, for as long as possible. You can watch this video for more information about treating hair loss at your age ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fLSB-tE0gco.html

If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant hair follicles, but it cannot block DHT-formation. Hi Sd Sharma, Sorry to hear about your problem. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and/or there is a delay in regrowth. It is possible that your depression may have caused excessive hair shedding of 200 hairs more a day due to severe stress called telogen effluvium, which doesn't require treatment, but it should be diagnosed by a doctor as it is possible to also have concurrent pattern hair loss. The white bulb at the end of the hair shaft is usually dead skin or keratin, and highly unlikely to be the hair follicle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi@@somusharma507, You will need a proper examination to confirm pattern hair loss. Minoxidil only prevents hair from shedding, and prolongs the growth cycle, but it does not thicken thinning hair, or slow hair thinning. Finasteride can slow hair thinning in men, and the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from follicles currently not growing, but still viable. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Nadeem Khan, Sorry to hear about your problem. As shown in the video, there are several causes of hair loss, so without examining your scalp, I can't tell what you have. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but the hair will grow back, so if you have this, you don't need to worry as everyone does it. If it's a different problem, then male pattern hair loss at 16 is very rare, so I suggest you talk to your parents about seeing an endocrinologist or a dermatologist for a proper examination to diagnose the cause. I hope you understand that I can't diagnose you without seeing you. I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the great info. So I am a mid 30 male and been shedding a lot. In the shower i there's usually a good patch in the drain and even more when i comb. I can slide my hands through my hair and usually get 3 or more pieces and sometimes with a white bulb. 2 years ago I took antibiotics which completely destroyed my gut flora and left me with so many health issues which keep getting worse. My hair is thinning in the back, top and front. Even lost a patch of hair in the front. I cant handle stress anymore and get even more stressed when I see the hair loss. So my question is, does male pattern baldness happen like this? Does it just rapidly fall out so fast in such a short amount of time? This was never a slow loss for me as I always had thick hair and barely any in the drain just a year ago. Thank you.

Hi Carlos Marcello, Sorry to hear about your problem. Male pattern hair loss is usually gradual hair thinning where hair sheds, then grows back thinner, and/or there is a delay in regrowth. It sounds like you have hair shedding. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and the hair grows back. Shedding 200 or more hairs a day can be due to severe stress, called telogen effluvium, but the hair eventually grows back. However, it is possible to have hair shedding and pattern hair loss concurrently. You do need to see a dermatologist or trichologist for a proper diagnosis before starting on treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hey doc! I have been loosing hair for the past 3 to 4 years now. There are periods of 3-4 months in between when I loose less hair and seems like hair fall won’t be a problem for me anymore but they start shedding again. I had extremely low ferritin levels and I have taken iron pills for almost a year now but there is no significant change. I have a more widened part than before for sure. I also have anxiety and stress issues but nothing major. Is it chronic Telogen effluvium or pattern hair loss?
@AmiyaPrasadMD
@AmiyaPrasadMD 4 года назад
Hi adiena arshad, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hair shedding is not pattern hair loss, and it is more associated with chronic telogen effluvium, but it is possible to have it at the same time as pattern hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning. There are many causes of hair loss in women, and female pattern hair loss cannot be confirmed through a scalp examination alone, so it does require scalp biopsies for proper diagnosis.
