The Chinese name for Hōō is in fact Fènghuáng. The problem with "Feng Huang" in Nocturne is that it's the wrong mythical bird entirely. It's actually Zhuque/Suzaku. Similarly, "cai-zhi" is a real name, but the creature they call that is actually xièzhì (which they misspell in later games as "xiezhai").
Yeah that was the problem with the Nocturne name... which is carried to here too. (Also, Seiryu is just "Long". iirc of all the beast names, only Baihu is correct. Nocturne HD at least fixed them all.)
@@BigKlingy I think "Long" is a victim of character limits--the full Chinese name is Qīnglóng. Of course "lóng" by itself just means "dragon" so that's a very unfortunate abbreviation, especially since Huánglóng also appears in some of the games (like this one!). Then again, they could fit "Chatterskull" so I'm not sure why Qinglong got shortened (among many others).

Although they aren’t necessarily American, but are of German engineering. I suppose the stereotype of *Americans made and own **_insert gun type here_* isn’t easily avoided The SMG was originally developed during WWI as a close quarters trench weapon. The first practical one was developed in Germany, which we later adapted for use during the later portions of WWI. The weapon was later popularized in WWII. The Thompson Sub Machine Gun or “Tommy Gun” was created by the US. If you’ve ever seen a show take place in the 90s with guns, you’ve seen a Tommy Gun. I remember them often from watching the Lupin series and classic DC cartoons as a kid. Assault rifles or ARs were also of German make, and were pioneered in WWII. The name based on what I was taught in high school history (and some research) was coined by the German Leader of WWII (you all know his name) as a “assault” or “storm” weapon. The weapon itself was developed by Hugo Schmeisser, and was adapted worldwide for its efficiency in kill power. The difference between the two lies in use, ammunition size, and weapon size. SMGs have smaller muzzles (the end where the bullets come out) and thus a shorter range. Think both how Ann can never focus on one target in P5, because the range is crap and she stands so far from targets. AR’s on the other hand have a better range, but have a harder recoil due to how much harder they tend to kick. Yuskue has to use both arms to hold the darn thing and prevent the recoil from messing up his hands. Buuut - he doesn’t need to miss targets. SMGs are also automatic, meaning they can spray and pray better than an AR. SMG ammo is also smaller than AR rounds, at least they tend to be. Rounded bullets versus the long, pointy rounds of assault rifles. One is more “aerodynamic” than the other - and can travel farther and pierce better. I’m far from a gun expert, but I do like engineering. The necessity of such weaponry was never something I enjoyed, but the construction, purpose, and science of it all is exceedingly fascinating to me. Furthermore my parents wanted us to know how to defend ourselves, so took us to a gun range or two to learn gun safety. The more you know when it comes to safety!

So... today I'll bring up status ailments and guns. Ammo that inflicts status ailments actually has a pretty decent chance of infliction, and in some cases can allow you to inflict status on enemies that might otherwise be impossible. For instance, an enemy resistant/Immune to Ice is harder/impossible to freeze with Bufu. This is NOT the case with the Frigid Shot ammo we got earlier in the game. Obviously if an enemy is explicitly immune to a status it won't bypass that immunity, but it can get around elemental resistances preventing you from abusing auto-criticals from Shock/Freeze or simply being more usable than specific ailment-inflicting skills.
That's really cool! Makes sense, but yeah. The main issue with guns is outside of ambush fights you need to spend a turn reverting to human form. Do Gale and Cielo's guns have a chance of the ailment on every hit?

MP/SP cost in RPGs I imagine is heavily influenced by encounter design/enemy density; the more encounters in the game, the more people will use skills. It's a thing that makes Etrian Odyssey interesting in that skill costs may appear somewhat high for an RPG but there's generally low encounter density; going in blind to a new floor generally lets you map a good chunk of it before having to turn tail, and it's very feasible to make it to the next floor in one shot. 12:06 It comes down to barrel length and bullet caliber. Assault rifles have longer barrels and fire middle of the road rifle caliber rounds, whereas SMGs are more compact and fire pistol caliber rounds. In both cases Germany invented them-- WW1 was when SMGs popped up, while the tail end of WW2 was when Nazi Germany started deploying the StG-44 (which was also known as a storm rifle). The real kerfuffle is when you start throwing in carbines (shorter barrel length but otherwise identical to assault rifles), battle rifles (rarely ever automatic fire, more powerful cartridges, longer range), and marksman rifles (generally semi-automatic and even longer range but IRL the boundaries between them and battle rifles are blurred to near non-existence). A lot of that knowledge for me is mostly from playing shooters, and videogames in general follow a lot of the basic elements that make the guns identifiable based on aesthetics. I'd also, definitely not taking offense but, spin it around to say that lack of gun knowledge may be a bit of an Australian thing due to how heavily regulated guns are in the country compared to North America and a good chunk of Europe.
Maybe that's why spells cost so much in Persona Q... which has encounter density closer to mainline Persona, and therefore magic sucks. (That and several other reasons) I was looking things up a while back and guns are less regulated here than I thought. Farmers are allowed them due to wild animals, also sports shooters. Some guns are allowed to be kept in collections if decommissioned. But the big difference is political attitudes: it's... pretty bipartisan over here than nearly favours gun restrictions, and most of them were passed by conservatives. It's really just fringe parties that want them relaxed.
The greater amount of elements and emphasis on exploiting weaknesses doesn't mesh as well put into other systems that are meant to be slower paced and more deliberate (as often as not frontliners are throwing out normal attacks in EO and you can general tell physical resistances apart via eyeballing/pattern recognition-- and no repel/drain to worry about). Attitudes and regulations towards guns broadly lines up urban VS rural lines in general, I've noticed; so Australia, being a highly urban nation, has that reputation to it.
In other news, I've had a long and tiring day, so it's nice getting to catch up and watch this video. No usual text wall from me, but it's still fun getting to see more about this game.
Hopefully the next day will be more relaxing for you. I can't wait to see what happens next since we have a very important fight in the next part. As for myself, I did finally beat 1000 Miles after winning the 35 laps at Le Sarthe so we have conquered the whole event and we win a Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale which is a cool looking car but not very useful especially considering the roughly 10 hours I put into this event but we did get a lot of money, 900,000 credits total, which is the main prize for me. With that money, I can do the last remaining one make event that I am able to do with the IB License which will probably be my next target. As for other things, not much since I played some Smash Ultimate with my brother and I prepared some filler videos since I didn't upload enough Paper Mario before I left.

Also yeah, next part we'll be facing Bat most likely and hopefully this time he stays dead. Great work finally finishing up 1,000 Miles at long last. Also 10 hours for that alone... Again, your endurance is an inspiration for us all (though I feel bad for anyone who was trying to beat that event, botched it, and had to put in another 10 hours to do it right). Hopefully the winnings from it make the final IB Make One Event a lot easier. Hope you guys had fun with Ultimate. I'm honestly tempted to mess around with it again in the future since I've wanted to do some single player stuff for it. Once again, having Klingy's VODs in the back helped a lot as well as the Dodge Charger being fun to drive as long as I didn't make a mistake with my braking which I did a couple of times but my race pace was way better than my opponents. Luckily, 1000 Miles is pretty easy to beat especially if the AC Cars 427 doesn't show up as an opponent like it did for me but I was confident in my Charger so I knew I could beat that very fast opponent. That final one make event needs me to buy an expensive car which is why I was saving it until I felt confident spending for it. We just use Smash to play versus matches but it is fun even if I am not that good at fighting games considering some of the small talk my brother has. I should be able to upload those videos today since I will coming back really soon.

This game might as well be proof that magic shouldn't be both an offensive and defensive stat. I'm reminded of how Silent Hill 2 got a remaster. According to many that played it, a lot of the changes made because of next gen consoles not having the PS2's limitations made it worse.
A lot of people feel the limitations of older consoles make the Silent Hill games scarier. People also prefer the somewhat stilted, unprofessional voice acting of the original SH2, because it sounds accurate to mentally traumatized people out of their depth.

Wild sheep (and certain types of “hair” breeds like the Katahdin) will naturally shed their coarse winter coats. They do this by scratching their bodies against trees and rubbing away their extra fluff as the weather warms up.
I saw the accidental mouse cursor, but I have seen an LP of this game and DDS2 that liberally abuse save-states for the Omoikanes. Also, you need to have mastered all five mantras that have the Ma-Dyne elemental skills in order to get a post-game Mantra on the grid. That post-game Mantra, Monotheist, has Null Attack on it and getting it on someone requires a staggering 2 Million Macca. You also need to do this for each character, unlike several other post-game Mantras.
I can totally understand abusive save states for those. I personally don't like Null Attack because by the time you have it, the main story is probably over and the Demi-Fiend will instakill you for using it.
@@BigKlingy Understandable. Admittedly, Null Attack does break some of the fights against bonus bosses as well. One of the Four Gods, Baihu IIRC, gets neutered hard by having Null Attack. How hard? You can activate auto-repeat in the options, set skills, use them when fighting him, and then set it to auto battle. The other three aren't neutered by Null Attack as much due to how their battles work.

Magic is also magic defense, and I find magic enemies are more common than physical ones, so Serph gets pretty bulky. It also affects magic ACCURACY, so she doesn't even need Agility.

I personally don't full on agree with a lot of the fab choices for a Legends Unova's time period. Well, more specifically a Legends Kyurem. Mostly because when I was forming ideas for it, I wanted to take into account when the Twin Heroes lived i.e 2500 years before Black and White because looking at the story Drayden and Iris tell you, the impression I got was after the heroes' sons fought, Reshiram and Zekrom laid in rest as the stones until the events of Black and White and thus a lot of ideas about the Original Dragon being formed wouldn't exactly work. Granted Legends Arceus formed its own retcons and unless Legends Kyurem takes place after BW2, the very existence of it is likely gonna form retcons, and if it's handled well, I'd be open to it.
Out of curiosity; if you miss a AoE attack that would normally be exploiting a weakness but it hit other demons with the same weakness, would it count as more press turns or half press turns used?
This has happened a couple of times on-camera, but negative press turn effects override positives ones. If an AoE attack misses some enemies, even if it hits a weakness on others, you lose 2 icons and none of them turn into halves. If you hit a Repel or Drain, all your icons are gone even if you hit weaknesses at the same time.
