My Gram made this for years for Christmas, it was an affordable treat for her to make as a gift to give. It is a Christmas treat in my family as well. She passed at 92 a few years ago and I have taken over the tradition 😊

🌾🌾🌾Wow, thank you for making this video even though it's a simple recipe! I came searching for it because someone just gave me some homemade chex mix which is my top favorite. But Im on too tight a budget to recreate that, so I started thinking of making my grandmother's Christmas oyster cracker recipe. I realized I couodnt figure out what that "green stuff" would have been or how she got so much flavor! I came searching but I used the wrong combo of search keywords a few times & kept getting sent to something with square saltine crackers and red pepper flakes, before trying "christmas oyster cracker recipe." Was Grammie really using a ranch packet?!?!😅 And after reading the comments, I'm starting to wonder if it wasnt perhaps my uncle who made this every Christmas and not my Grammie. He's from Michigan! Thanks again, from Texas!

I'm glad you finally found the recipe! Yea, it pretty much all comes down to the dill and ranch packet.

What's your opinion about using butter instead of oil?
@GreatLakesPrepping
@GreatLakesPrepping 3 месяца назад
I've never done it this way, so I suppose I don't have much of an opinion. I can't see why melted butter wouldn't be delicious, but I also don't know how or if it would impact the taste or texture in any negative way. Might warrant a test batch!

Could you possibly use melted butter?

Melted butter is certainly healthier than canola oil

I bet if you would have asked your Mom to make these crackers in the Summertime she would have. You've been missing out all these years. Love your mother while you can. Hear me?

Dude, this is the exact same recipe my Grandma did. From Michigan, wonder if it s a Great lakes region thing. We do it in bag too and let sit over night. The way you describe it it literally word for the way my grandma did it. Crazy

Ha! My best guess is that all our moms and grandmas found it in the same cookbook, or on the back of a package of oyster crackers from the 1970s or something. It certainly could have been a regional thing, especially if the recipe was on some food packaging that was only made/distributed in these parts.
