Dimash Qudaibergen HELLO First Reaction 

Everyone sings as they can, and Dimash sings as he wants. Dimash does not cover. He transforms the song for himself. And thus improves it. Because the song becomes such that only Dimash can sing it. He is not limited in anything. He can take any song and make a masterpiece out of it. His friend Yerlan Bekchurin, who has known Dimash since the age of 10, helps him to make such a unique arrangement. Yerlan has a phenomenal ear for music. He knows the sound of all musical instruments in combination with the voice of Dimash. 99% of Dimash's compositions were arranged by him. This composition was written specially for the traditional Qazaq flute and has obvious oriental motives. You can hear traditional Qazaq throat singing as a back vocal.

Dear William, I have been Dimash Dear since 2017 (first performance of SOS at The Singer contest), by completely accident (?) - youtube algorythm suggested to me this exact Dimash video titling it The Best Voice in The World (seriously!). I can tell you a little background history about this video. After The Singer was over Dimash's disappeared from our view. We were worried what is going on with him (he only had his Instagram account back then and he did not post very often and the posts he sent were quite puzzling). There was even a rumour that he was having a nose operation :) So this perfromance by him as a guest in The Singer in 2018 was the first one after his disappearance for several month and his question from this song "is it me you're looking for?" was directed to us, Dears, because he knew we were looking for him :) Of course singing "wo ai ni - Chinese I love you was for his Chinese Dears who were waiting for him. At the end he repeated "wo ai ni" then said the same in Kazakh "men seni suleymen" and then said "thank you very much" in Chinese. The flute in this arrangement is traditional Kazakh flute made from the reed called sybyzgy. Its origin and history is very interesting - you should check it out. That crazy stuff he did in the middle of the song is one of the best things I`ve ever heard in my life. Every time. You just can`t top that. Plus the rest of the performance with the emotion, the flute, the lights, everything is absolutely amazing.

There are many legends and traditions associated with sybyzgy. In these legends the instrument is called a "living reed", because this strong, hollow stem, makes amazingly deep sounds. The whole life of Kazakhs is imbued with music, it sounds in ceremonies and rituals, in everyday life and at holidays. Listening to the sounds of dombra, kobyz or sybyzgy, one can understand the history and culture of the Kazakh people. It was easy and fast to make a sybyzgy, but it was very difficult to play it. Sybyzgy kuis (Kui: sung stories) were most two-voice melodies: the first voice came from the instrument and the second voice was the throat singing of the musician-performer.(www)

This song is one of my favorites by Lionel Richie. Dimash took it to a whole new level...Dimash is not human 👽👽, I swear, and this performance is proof of that. One of my favorite things that he did in this performance wasn't even all the vocal fireworks, believe it or not; it was when he sang wo ai ni, which is Chinese for "I love you!" Dimash is so humble and he shows his appreciation for his fans, his Dears, in the most beautiful ways. I'm proud to be a Dear, almost 4 years now. ❤❤❤

Hello William! This is the very first song that introduced me to Dimash in October 2019. Not soon after, I searched for where and when Dimash’s next concert would be, because i just had to hear this extraordinary voice in a live performance. I was fortunate enough that Dimash was scheduled to perform in NYC close to where I lived. It was truly an unforgettable day when I attended his concert in December 2019. Since then, I cannot go a day without hearing Dimash’s angelic and soothing voice. I’m thankful that I’m able to watch and enjoy Dimash’s videos with you. Thank you, William. See you next time.❤

Oh yes, Dimash has made this song an absolute, multidimensional masterpiece. He also brilliantly replaced the English "I Love You" with the Chinese Wo-Ai-Ni, meaning the same thing. Dimash did not sing this song in the competition, he performed it a year later, in 2018, as a special guest. Using folk arrangements like “Sybyzgi”, beautiful Kazakh wind instrument; Dimash skillfully mixes Eastern and Western styles, a bit of Kazakh folklore in between, creating a unique and mind-blowing ending. The last sentence of the song Dimash says "Wö-ai-ni" is “I love you” in Mandarin, out of respect for China. the phrase that speaks at the end are “Thanks” and “I love you”. Oh William you found one of my all time favorite Dimash songs! It’s a stand alone astonishing performance, glistening in time, never to be repeated again, all because Lionel Richie said no more. Poor sport I’d say but of course within his rights, so whatta ya going to do? This was the year after the I am Singer 2017 competition. Dimash came back as the star guest performer and absolutely nailed this performance. I wonder what would have happened if he did this song in 2017, because it felt like a light year leap forward in brilliance from Dimash. Anyhow I’m just grateful this was recorded for posterity and so I can indulge myself listening to it whenever I want, ha, ha! You’re lookin’ sunny William, very tropical! 😁
