this video explores all you need to know about dimensions. in this video we get to explore the use of dimensional analysis to find dimensions of a physical quantity, the use of dimensional analysis to derive equations, the use of dimensional analysis to find the dimensions of constants, and a deal of illustrative examples to send the point home. Physical quantities such as acceleration can be determined or related to the three physical quantities. here we explore fundamental and physical quantities of matter. The three basic fundamental quantities include length, mass and time, their standard units being meters, kilograms and seconds respectively. All the physical quantities (derived quantities) are related to these three basic quantities. The basic quantities cannot be expressed in terms of other physical quantities whereas the derived quantities are physical quantities which are expressed in terms of other physical quantities and they include but are not limited to velocity, acceleration, force etc.

Nice job. I appreciate your effort. I have three questions I will like you to help me with 1. A displacement of a particles S is given as S=A+Bt+Ct2 (the 2 is squared). Deduce the unit of the constant AB&C 2. The force of capillary on plant is given by ¥(young modulus sign) =Prgh/2 where ¥ is the coefficient of surface tension. Is the equation correct or not 3. Given the Vander waal's equation of state (P+a/v2)(v-b)=RT Find the unit and dimension of the constant a&b where all these symbols have all there usual meaning.

Sir when solving the equations, the final simplification for eg:-1) s=ut+1/2at2 (at is squared) you had solved that L.H.S.=R.H.S....There the final simplification is 3/2 L.but sir take the answer as L only.sir didn't take their coefficients (whole number)..what is the reason for that sir? Tell me sir please however the vedio is very nice.great job sir....

We dont consider their coefficients because coefficients (whole numbers) are dimensionless (they cannot be expressed in terms of mass or Length or time). So we ignore constants. This is dimensional analysis so we shall only go with the Physical Quantities (e.g velocity, acceleration, etc) since its only the Physical Quantities that can be expressed in terms of the Fundamental Quantities, a characteristic constants don't posess, hence ignoring them. This is why we say that dimensional analysis only proves DIMENSIONAL CONSISTENCY of an equation (since the LHS = RHS) BUT dimensional analysis CANNOT PROVE THE CORRECTNESS of an equation (because the constants cannot be verified since they are dimensionless) I hope this paints the picture clearer
