I feel like the only character who was well cast was Nicole, the rest of them were awful, they didn’t pick the right person for baby at all, I know a lot of people have said she wasn’t skinny enough, but honestly I don’t think that’s true, she’s actually got a normal body, it’s just that she can’t move at all, she’s just so stiff and awkward.
You comment is spot on 👏 I agree with Nicola being the only actress perfectly cast as penny As for baby 🤔 she got a lovely figure but she just didn’t do the role justice and she was tense and stiff and and I’d like to know who was the choreographer on set cos clearly didn’t see this and the director
I'm sorry but Abigail should not have been cast as baby. No disrespect to her cause she's a great actress but just not as baby. She's not as graceful and spirited as her. I'm not saying she has to be skinny but it helped that Jennifer Grey was because she could move around more smoothly. I feel like even Nicole would have played baby better.
Actually, being skinny plays a big factor in dancing. It does make you move more smoothly. It couldve also made things easier for her and her costar during the lift
I think this comment is just rude, she moved fine in fact I liked that they picked a girl who is a bit on the bigger side because it shows that big or small you can have moves. If you were to comment about the acting alone I might agree with you as I don’t think she was the right fit for this role as it was not that convincing to me and it looked very forced, that does not mean her acting is like that in every role she has. I don’t think her size should have anything thing to do with it, when you are criticizing/ commenting on her in this role
No offense to Nicole who is an incredibly talented artist but Hollywood ruined this movie. This was not a musical. It was poignant in its turning of an era next generation way..This just made my skin crawl. And the young lady playing Baby just didn't bring the emotion and innocence that Jennifer did in her time. This really hurt my heart and it definitely fell flat on coming anywhere near Patrick and Jennifer's greatness. God I miss Patrick Swayze. If you can't beat the original than you should of left it alone.
I like Penny. She is a great dancer. Plus, she is like th old Penny in th Old Dirty Dancing( Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey) but th new Baby is sooooo different. Im sorry but she is. I like th old Baby better
Morgan Youngs Also Baby want supposed to know how to dance at all. Jennifer Grey's portrayal obviously knew how to dance and seemed much older than her character was supposed to be. But we will always like original because it was the first. Plus Johnny and Baby in the new one didn't have very good chemistry. I didn't buy his character all that much. I did but Abigail's Baby tho, she seemed to like Johnny, couldn't dance & young and nieve. Still like the original myself.
I hear that Penny was amazing in this movie and I could totally see it in this scene. Nicole is just so awesome here. Compare to everything else here, she was easily the best one here.
I'm not sure what all the complaints are about, this musical adaptation worked just fine. Abigail Breslin has really blossomed into a gorgeous woman! Glad to hear her singing. I LOVE the original film and always will. I like this version, too.
Jennifer Grey could dance so well... She made every move count. With this movie, Baby is just counting the steps, not actually dancing (to my opinion...). It looked like a high school version of the movie, and not a proper 'remake' (which they should never have done with this movie...). The grace and the high standard that the 1987 movie had, came from the spontanaity (did I spell that one right?) and improv and class and talent that the Original cast had/has + the vision of the writer, director and choreographer had at the same time. The 1987 movie turned me liking dance into me loving dance and wanting to dance. This one... not so much :(
Gissela Vargas Because Baby wasn't supposed to have any rhythm or know how to dance. I still absolutely love the original but I never bought into that Baby knew nothing about dancing in the original. Jennifer was an amazing dancer.
Jennifer grey didn’t know anything about dancing. The scenes where Patrick was teaching her were half real, they talked about that. Her father however was a famous dancer so it was in her blood, but her herself never trained as a dancer. It just came naturally as she learned with Patrick which is what made the movie and connection so amazing.
@@SJfilms1 eh, this is a myth. Maybe she was learning the steps and the style of dance, but she definitely had dance training. She went to a performing arts school lol
It has nothing to do with the character or the story for baby to be stick thin! I like movies that take more normal body girls and make them a girl every girl wants to be!
I'm from Hendersonville. I kinda kick myself in the ass every day knowing that I missed an opportunity to get to know Abigail. She's a damn WOMAN and one I, personally, would be proud to call friend. Won't lie though, I kinda get the sense that her brother Spencer would get me into trouble lolol
The remake of the 2017 movie and the 1987 movie I really liked the original because there are real dancers there and the actress is much prettier than the 2017 one, the remake seemed boring and nothing original in terms of the dance, they changed the ending
I would've found it great to have an actress in this who isn't as thin as a stick, so I appreciate this try, but this girl has no body tension at all (0:29, just what?).
It's simply awful. Nicole is basically flirting with her physically, and she's just standing there, like a statue. Not statuesque - just lifeless. Zero enthusiasm, zero tension, zero playfulness. It's almost as if dance didn't exist, sensuality didn't exist, and aliens came down from another world and ***described*** what dancing is, without showing an example, and demonstrating it - and someone tried to do it by reading a set of instructions. This scene is like ethnic food, but with no spices.
I feel like if this whas a movie standing on Its own it would have bin oké and done great. But its a remake of one hella famous movie. And well Its hard to tip on a movie like that. Il say one thing do i like that this movie had a little bit more backstory that the original one.
This behavior from the Penny character just does not work for me. Since when did Penny sing - she communicated emotions with great sensuous body language.
rowbom well they had to make this Penny sing because it's Nicole Sherzinger, but I agree they didn't stick to the original character that well by making her sing
Whatever abilities Nicole Sherzinger has she doesn't remind me of the first Penny - Cynthia Rhodes. Anyway they should have tried to be true to the original character.
Ikr this whole movie was just a cringe. They ruined the loverboy scene for me. Right after I saw they're version I had to clean my eyes with the original 😂😂.
Mostly everyone agrees that the first movie was better. It was the original actors in the roles (in my opinion) that made the first Dirty Dancing special and also seeing the story happen for the first time.
rowbom Ya the actors did fantastic. Plus, the plot was new to the viewers. Nowadays everyone knows the plot and it doesn't seem as exciting as it was when the original came out. I just wish that the actors did better in this one.
Lauren Lindsley Dude all I said was an observation of 2 body shapes. I did not belittle anyone. All women are beautiful, let me rephrase that, most women are beautiful. Those not considered beautiful are because of a nasty attitude. I believe attitude shows beauty !
Thomas August firstly I ain't a dude and secondly so what it's different body types it's supposed to have new elements to it new people and new things meaning it's not the exact same thing as the original otherwise people would get bored and know what's coming next
T August so what if shes a different body type i actually like she isnt a stick the only thing i didnt like was that she didnt bring the innocence and growing confidence that jennifer gray to babys character
This movie is good for Nicole, her dancing is better than every other major character, people are praising her, but actually she's pretty meh... stiff back, awkward on hills, etc
Jennifer Grey had rhythm, and dance training as well, she comes from a Broadway family. Her Dad is Joel Grey. They trained Abigail in the steps, but no one can give you the rhythm. With dance, you either got it or don’t got it. Poor casting.
All the comments about her size and whatever is unnecessary. This isn't a remake, it's a different take on a classic film. Not saying it's a great take but it should be compared
Abigail did okay but im sorry i feel like sarah hyland would've done better as baby she has a history with dancing shes more experienced idk i just see sarah as baby more than abigail but abigail did pretty good
I love Nicole Scherzinger but I don't like how she portrayed Penny in this remake..Penny didn't sing and wasn't as outgoing as this, she's got the character all wrong..they should have never have filmed this movie
Unpopular opinion, _Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights_ is just as good, if not a bit better than the original. And Dirty Dancing did not need this remake...
This TV adaptation of a musical based on a movie is the textbook definition of derivative. Nicole Scherzinger salvages what little playfulness exists in this dead fish scene - there's more steamy sexiness in my weekly Wall Street Journal. Juxtaposed over this intensely out of sync, bland movement of the human body, your eardrums will bleed from the absolutely awful take on "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" . Not since someone made a TV show about a musical about the making of a Jerry Lee Lewis biopic have we heard such a chug-a-chug-chug dumpster fire of an imitation of what passed for as rock music, complete with shrieking vocals, and what seems to be a computer generated piano solo - also devoid of any of the edge that makes the original song groove. It's almost as if we took the whitest bluegrass song and asked them to remove the last bit of off-beat rhythm, put it through a blender, and blasted it on a boombox in the barrio as some kind of meta practical joke to see if any spontaneous street dancing would break out. Here's a hint - it doesn't. Abigail Breslin's stiff as a board interpretation of Baby in this scene should have set the choreographer's hair on fire like an overpaid baseball player jogging to first base. Instead, they must have been asleep in Baby's corner, or maybe in a coma. While not everything is Shakespeare, and I'm happy to consume McCulture when appropriate, whoever decided to fund this monstrosity would have had more fun simply tossing bundles of cash into a fireplace.
Is that spose to be dirty dancing??? Why have they turned the remake in to a musical when dirty dancing wasn't a musical also this song wasn't in the film
Forbiddenangel989 creative impotency that's what it's called. Probably easier to find singing actors than those who can dance on professional level, and then they were trying to make up for it.
Abbie is adorbale and beautiful and I love her as an actress!... cast in the right movies that is, as just everybody else...this movie was not a right cast for neither of the main characters imo.
