Learned a lot from this video. I do have something for you that may help when you're doing your Floetrol mixes. I saw another guy who does some tutorials and what he ended up doing was heating up some water and mixing a little of the powdered dye in a little of the hot water, and then mixing it with the Floetrol. It dissolves really well in the hot water (don't go too hot!) and then mixes into the Floetrol very well. I'm still somewhat new to the dyeing game, but it's been awesome for me so far.
Hey now James! Welcome to the crew bud, sounds like you're going to fit right in. You're on point with the steaming hot water first suggestion. I picked up on that little gem after filming this video, and it does work great. Appreciate you bringing it into the conversation here.
Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed tutorial. Youve answered all the great dye questions no one would answer, cause they assume everyone knows. Love your work. Thank for helping is all start doing it.
Dude, love this! Your instructions are so concise & simple which is so helpful🤩 Plus, I like your style so listening to you give us all this info is fun. I’m gonna have to watch this video a couple of time & takes notes, lol! Keep on being you & keep on doing it🥏⛓💥
This videos timing was perfect! A bunch of dyes I ordered arrived today, I recently started using floetrol as a medium and had just watched a few acrylic pouring videos over the weekend. It was a cool experience that leads me to believe it's one big disc dyeing adventure that we all take part in. Keep up the great work man
Thanks.my man Bobby for ALWAYS putting the BEST info out there for the awesome TDIDI ARMY !!You do it the best just Keep doing it! wishing the best of the Holiday season Bro!!
The frothier sucks get the stick one, easy to clean, be careful with asatone, it will stain it, I clean the sticks with dawn dish-soap. make sure ya link your new mic mixer! lol
Great stuff Bobby! All of it was super informative. I have finally got real dyes (prochem) and have been getting some great results. Thanks for all the direction these videos give! Happy holidays to your Family!
Absolutely 100 percent what I needed to see. I mostly use floetrol even when I'm not doing cells which is cool to see how different we use it BUT I have never used it as a topper as I am just getting into stencil dyes. So that is my question; as someone that is most comfortable with floetrol, do you think it would work well as a topper to fill in some of my stencil dyes? If so, how long do you think I should let it sit before I wipe it off and either move on or do another layer for more vivid colors? Thank you so much for another awesome video man!
Thanks so much Scotie, glad you could dig it! I haven't tried using it as a topper because I think it would be too runny and not stay in place, kind of like I mentioned with cheaper laundry detergent. I'm guessing it you thickened it up a bit with something like corn starch it might work. Hope that helps bud!
Hey Bobby, I'm having issues with PCaD neon colors.. they doesn't want to dissolve in acetone! I used the same ratios as you did, but none of them are even close to a thorough mix. I'm trying out some spin dyeing, but the only colors that transfer to the disc properly are my non-neon colors (Onyx, Cherry Red, and Sonic Blue.) What do I DO?
Sometimes the neon colors can be a little stubborn. Couple option you could try... First heat up some water to just before boiling then mix just enough (a few drops if that's all it takes) to mix it into a muddy consistency, then bring the acetone into the equation. In extreme spots I've also tried heating the glass bottle up over a candle to warm the acetone and help it dissolve. Obviously you need to be super careful if you go that route, it's crazy flammable. Hope that helps bud!
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt I didn't think about getting the water hot before mixing it, so I'll have give that a try! I recently broke a glass jar with a floetrol dye mix and ruined my pants (fluorescent pink, right in the crotch..) i was trying to warm it up with a candle, so maybe ill try.. not doing that haha. If it doesn't work Im gonna buck up and buy some quick coat worm dip and not ever think about mixes. Thanks for the reply! Have a merry christmas! :)
Thank you so very much for this video!!! This is the one that got me to subscribe :D Just one question, how long can you keep a mixed dye stored? If you make a bigger batch, can you leave it for days, weeks, months or will it become unusable quickly???
Most welcome JustLax, and welcome to the crew! I've kept pretty much all of my mixes for over a couple months with no problems. Sometimes the lotion mix needs a little refresher and good shake up but after that it's good. The key is keeping them all capped and not exposed to open air. Hope that helps bud!
Do you use a different measuring spoon for each dye, or do you clean it in some way? Also, I've been using a 1/8 teaspoon since it fits right in my bottles
Maybe you already have a video on this, but why would you use different bases for 'beds'? Is there a specific reason to use lotion, or clear glue, or white glue for a bed?
We've probably dug into that more collectively than in a single video, but it mostly comes down to the different funky design each of them makes. Your question inspired me to cram some of it into tonight's live stream. We'll make a lotion, a floetrol, and a clear glue bed then compare some of the differences. Hope you can make it.
Is your ratio the same for denatured alcohol and acetone? I bought some denatured alcohol to try it out for spin dyes and it isn’t giving me color like acetone. It’s barely showing up.
Hey now Dylan! It is the same. The saturation level is about a shade softer with denatured alcohol than with acetone usually and can take a few more coats to get dark. Try dissolving the powdered dye in a bit of hot (just shy of boiling) water first before mixing it with the denatured alcohol. Only just enough water to dissolve all of the powder and turn it into a thick syrup, then mix it with whichever solvent you're using. This can help significantly in activating and mixing all of the dye through the denatured alcohol increasing your saturation levels. Hope all that helps bud!
