That is epic. I can say that I've just been steadily grabbing a mix of everything and that was a nice little boon to cancel out the smoke show that has been the short-term results of the last year. Just think of it this way, you're here now and the next 40K is out there one of these times, as is the next Baulder's Gate. The math of high variance assets with a risk of ruin of less than zero is pretty awesome. It is going to be tough to be upset by much of this in 5-10 years, and I do think that that's the lesson, along with doing some (naive, for me) forecasting work on these products and keeping an eye out for what is releasing, when, why, and how the prices move. It is another fun wrinkle in the hobby of CCGs for sure. If 14 year old me knew what was happening with my CCG collections now, he would be like brooooo what? 😂

Where is it played? I remember this getting less table time than cardfight, even after people discovered the latter boosters were being easily weighed on a jeweler scale and the whole price bottomed. FfVii stuff ended up being sold at a loss at my old local.

@@labutter420 Forgot about YGO somehow. Is there much of a demand for old boxes? I heard each set is usually full of power creep, and then the offending cards get banned just in time for the next set to roll out and the cycle repeats. But I haven't played it for a very very long time.

I agree. I just don't get the Collector boxes. £200-300 for 12 barely collectible packs is a joke. Like you said at least the Draft boxes are useful.

I imagine collection and set boxes to be higher variance and lesser known returns of the same sets. So if you have maybe $1k for a set, seems like 4 draft, 2 set, 1 collector could be nice. Trying to predict what's happening at buy time doesn't seem that helpful, but using what we know to estimate longer term variance and EV helps with diversification.

@@monkey39128 I have to disagree. It all depends on the set, the cards in, the variants (is there Neon Ink variant? Is there a serialized chance? Powerful new, hardly reprintable cards?) and many more. No way that Dominaria Remastered will have better performing Draft (the draft ain't too fun) than collectors.'. the Collector's are STUFFED with great shit..

Short-term, I imagine that there will be increased spending and some of it will flow back into CCGs. Longer-term, IDK, but historically, the initial wave(s) of increased spending creates a need for more Fed tweaking at some point. I doubt that any of it will affect CCGs significantly and over time though, which is really the name of the game. At this point, I think Hasbro is just trying to figure out how to make profitable situations and that's going to require some conservation on their end. Maybe they short a run and somehow people are also more liquid after that shorter run and hit the next one hard, for example. It's going to be noisy and, IMO, not worth considering vs just going dollar cost averaging style and diversifying, all that fun stuff.
