You think this is bad? (the following account is verifiably accurate) During the holocaust in war torn Europe , a group of Nazis descended on a maternity hospital that held a large proportion of Jewish women therein; one of the younger fascists decided it might be a nice thing to let all the nurses see something to pass the time as they were held at gunpoint by his superiors in the grounds outside. After consulting with them, he got another man to go to one of the upper floor wards, where from the open window he then proceeded to throw live, new born babies down to his colleague, who laughed as he thrust his bayonet straight through them before they hit the ground. The only reason he stopped after a time, was because he didn't care much for the mess the blood was making on his uniform...One of the nurses who had to witness this can still remember thinking as it happened: "Please God! Strike these people down! Stop them father I beg you !" Sadly, God did nothing. WHY?
Wow. Them Nazis - they were just one step above eating Jews for breakfast. Just when you think nothing could make them any lower in your eyes.... Hitler had a girlfriend who was willing to do a romeo and julia style double suicide with him. Innocent babies get horrible metabolic diseases. This world is clearly NOT ordained by a benevolent intelligence. It's a great place with lots of beauty, but its inherentl imperfect. Full of mistakes. It contains evil and uglyness. Really, what "mysterious ways"/"greater purpose" would babies being impaled on bayonets serve? And who is God to sacrifice these babies and not others? There is no sense in such things;its obvious unless you bend over backwards with justifications to shoehorn it in.
Oworotoru Even if you were to explain things with a supposed plan, that would only mean those unlucky babies were basically sacrificial pawns to god, mere cannon fodder. Do we not usually condemn such 'ends justify the means' logic?
“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bull
AK6 You are imagining a spirit. There are no spiritual matters. You cannot back a single claim you make. Science is nothing more then the study of the world around us. So far it have not been kind to the ridiculous claims of religitards.
The Pastor Pollock thing happened literally right next door to me. His son attended the same school as me, and I still remember the announcement at school after the crash. Also, we almost bought the house he was building in a nearby area. So strange to see something i've lived with appear in this video. Plenty of my friends attend Bell Shoals Baptist Church on a regular basis, and see Pollock as 'a martyr.' Thank you for seeing it cleary!
One of the best videos yet. Christians need to believe in divine protection, otherwise their belief system crumbles. If God doesn't really protect mankind, then he either isn't in control, doesn't really care, or doesn't exist. Being a former Christian, I understand how difficult it is to leave your faith behind. Your entire life is wrapped around this faith...all your eggs are in this one basket. It takes courage, but leaving the fantasy behind is TRULY liberating.
watched this while fixing minecraft settings....and couldn't find the thing to make the hot bar smaller. This doesn't mean anything but i thought you guys might want to know for some unknown reason.
Who narrates this? She sounds kind of familiar, and for some reason every time she said "Think about it" I thought of Mirage from The Incredibles when she said that? (I'm Christian btw)
Spiritof Perseus You're welcome. It's the new and "improved" comments system. Sometimes you receive notification of replies, sometimes you don't. It keeps us on our toes. :o)
I love how your just asking questions rather than saying. "okay this is the way it happened" if you were to ask questions in a church it would not be tolerated. your a profound thinker. good work.
Whoa whoa whoa, god does not allow evil to prevail on sacred grounds. I mean the church is the holy house of god. Just like god does not allow children to die of starvation and disease. As well as god never allows children to be kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered. god loves the children too much to allow such things to happen. That's why it has never happend, because god is love. lol
Ive been thinking about this for a long time. I thank the producers of this short film for making things more clear. I was a christian but ive been fooling myself. This film has made some strong points. My mother suffered and died from cancer, she was a christian. WHY did the god of the bible let her suffer when she worshped him ?. I never thought i would hear myself say '' I dont believe in the bible anymore, But , I DONT not anymore.
Regarding miracles: I'm 37 years old and until about 5 years ago I thought that miracles and the supernatural MIGHT be real. I've been looking ALL my life and found THOUSANDS of amazing testimonies, but I've NEVER seen anything supernatural demonstrated and there is always a NATURAL explanation for the observed phenomena. I'm not disputing whether Jesus existed or not, but I AM disputing the supernatural claims which have been associated with him. The Gospels contradict each other.
The question I would like an answer for from Christian’s in The United States is. ‘If we only have to pray to A God in Jesus’s name why do citizens of the US pay for doctors, drugs, hospitals,Health Care , Health Insurance ?” I would really like to hear from our So called Christian Congress on this issue
Absolutely, According to their holy book all you have to do is pray to god the father in Jesus name and he will answer your prayers. What’s the need for health insurance and prescription drugs. I have been wanting an answer to that question for a long time!
That list between 2:19 and 2:40 I honestly believe has shrunk. So many people use the divine protection rule to now shun things like medicine, security, and safety precautions like seatbelts.
@Yankyal1 i was in a Christian High school and i was bullied everyday for a year. it turned me atheist and antisocial, and i have been antisocial for 10 years. i learned that it is not God that you should blame for your misfortunes but evil. It is not the will of God for these things to happen. It has been promised to us that evil will have its Downfall that There will come a time when there is no more Evil or pain or Suffering or tears. Praise be to God for that Amen.
A couple of problems I have with the two of the "omni-" attributes of god 1. Omnipotence - if god can do anything (in laymans terms), he can (logically) create a more powerful god than himself (or make a rock so heavy he can't lift it, whatever), thereby making his omnipotence redundant. If he CAN'T, he isn't omnipotent 2. Omniscience vs. Free Will - If god knows everything (has a plan for us, etc) then how can we have free will, if no matter what we choose, god already knew the outcome?
"Oh, shit. It seems that I have the flu. Not to worry! I shall pray to the Lord for healing while I head over to my doctor and pick up some prescription drugs from the pharmacy. When I am better, I shall thank the Lord of healing me because clearly, my doctor and the medicines I took three times a day did absolutely nothing for me!"
@tifforo1 If you can't find it in Revelation, there's also Daniel 9:27, where he talks about the "week", the "week" being a prophetic week. Also, in Daniel 12:9-12, he specifically lays out the time, so if the whole prophetic week/year transition isn't working for you, you've got a little bit more literal standpoint to it. And yeah, you're right. It doesn't atone for all those deaths. But then again, this world DOES suck like that.
@pimmagrimm sorry for assuming that the 'god' you believe in was the 'god' of the bible, my mistake. by what name does your 'god' go by then so i might better understand your views?
Maybe divine protection transends this mortal state. Thanks for reminding me bad things happen to good people. What's wrong with wanting to believe in a beautiful message? Belief is a choice for everyone. Your belief is based only on what you can see, your choice. My belief is based on what makes me happy, and a beautiful message that I truly hope is true, my choice. So what as long as I don't hurt anyone why do you care? Do you guys hope that your beliefs are true? Do you want to believe that when you die that's it? What a tragic life if that's what you hope for.
Thank you for your reference to an article that agrees with what I've been saying. To summarize, it says toward the end: "This is the first Non-Doppler redshift theory, which when combined with the usual Doppler phenomenon, would explain consistently all spectral shifts observed in astronomy." As I said in my last post, you have shown evidence of BOTH Doppler AND non-Doppler related red-shifts. I assume that you posted your reference as a concession that I was correct?
@FluffyBunnyYellow I love when Christians say "God gave humans free will" then claim "God has a plan." We either have free will or we don't. Which one is it?
@pimmagrimm any chance of sending the link? i could not find that video by that name...but if it is true what you say, then we are on the same page, only i call it the cosmic consciousness. there is also a vid from a movie called "out on a limb - i am god" which desribes my views...as does the word "namaste". these are very clear as well...
When my dad was a kid, he said that they didn't buy medicine or go to doctors because they believed God would treat them. He said that one day one of my uncles had a fever of over 100 for a day or so and he only got better when finally broke their faith and got him to a doctor. My dad recalls that his brother looked as if he was going to die, from something easily treatable. That is when his family moved away from religion. Over belief in God almost killed someone from a damn fever.
@dmarvin811 thanks for not responding hatefully i appreciate it. ill think about what u said. and i wish to ask u a question: does anything but our universe and everything in it really exist? talk to me
At least they did learn the right lesson from that scenario. Some would go on anyway citing "God's will" or "he was called home," or other such nonsense. You uncle is fortunate they made the rational choice.
I'm an Atheist, but to be fair in the Bible it does say in Matthew 5:45 "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." In this part "God" points out that everyone has good thing and bad things happen to them no matter if they are "Saved" or "Unsaved". Not saying your wrong, but I only wanted to bring this up. Again.....I'm an Atheist and I was raised in a Christain Home!
@pimmagrimm 1. No, not everyone is correct and here's why; the aim is to find a universal truth, truths can only be based of demostrably true concepts, otherwise they can hold no merit in a circumstance in which they'd otherwise apply. We strive to get an understaning of the world as a systematic whole and when we hold a faith based concept above a demostrably true one we get a subjective world view, one that is counter-intuitive to our nature, one based off reasoning.
@8andimpala I'm an Atheist and I believe in some types of supernatural activity, because some types of supernatural things are detectible and even walk among us, without us knowing, with them knowing, some beneficiary, some malevolent.
Religious lunacy will never die. The believers will never be persuaded by the non-believers. It's so sad ,but so true. But as long as secularistic, rationalistic, non-theocratic folks keep on hammering at their ridiculous doctrines ,their hold on the American public will eventually fade. The GOP may finally get the message in 2012.
People who profess to believe don't really believe...it's just comforting to them to believe someone more powerful than themselves is in control. Even if it is a lie. "His eye is on the sparrow"? Then he must be blind.
@bleesev2 6. How did you get "God can't do anything" out of "God can't make Himself not exist"? The question "Can God make Himself not exist?" is a pointless question--why would He make Himself not exist? 7. First, it's "could He HAVE", not "could He OF". Second, yes, He could, but that's the beauty of it--He loves us enough to give us the choice. By the way, thank you for being polite about asking your questions. It's a quality that is, sadly, lost upon many people these days.
The path that electricity takes through something like wood or dirt or other material is NOT merely a property of electricity. It is a property of the wood or other material. If electricity goes through metal or water or something that conducts well, it goes in a much more smooth path. Likewise, the path that water leaves when it erodes dirt depends on random patterns in the dirt. Just because something is random and zigzag does NOT prove that it was caused by electricity.
I heard gods voice for a full week. he spoke words of beauty. and then he went. I could recognize an outside intelligence . doctors said I was a schizo
@Lionthov The front page of yesterdays paper, referring to the aftermath of the tornado in Joplin, Missouri, says it all: COUNTING DEAD, BLESSINGS. Naturally all who survived credit God for answering their prayers and protecting them. Who speaks for the 122 people who died? Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither? Then why call him God?
The bible also says that "Time and Unforeseen occurrences" will happen in our lives, and examples are given in the bible which show how errant events will just occur. The bible also recounts how people will see "tribulation" in this world. So divine protection, in context, really points more to, in my view, spiritual protection (don't fear the one that can destroy the body but rather the one who can destroy the body and leave your soul in Gehenna).. thus offering everlasting life to those faithful to Him.
Wow!!! Are you saying that the Bible says "unforseen events" will happen? HOW DID IT KNOW?!? So we can't forsee everything that's going to happen?! WHO KNEW?!? Time to panic!!!!!!!!!!111!!!11!!!one!!!
@pimmagrimm 3. Just because something has a 'modicum' of common sense attached to it does NOT mean it's true, there is reasoning behind everything we do. We often function by appealing to our needs on subconscious levels as well as conscious one's that does not however justify them. In some people their psyche isn't strong enough to handle the idea of death, some people need this hopeful scapegoat to hide from what to them is an unbearable truth, but I beleive most of us don't.
I understand what you mean, and I mostly agree with it. I just wouldn't myself call an atheist, because I can't say "God does not exist". All i can say is "I don't believe God exists, but I can't prove it, because this question unanswerable", which is a huge difference I think.
@Vigatos I am born an atheist. A non-believer. Explain to me why I should believe in your God? Why would I hate someone or something that is not real? Prove to me beyond a doubt that he exists. I will wait for your reply.
@Xelamorph67 That is something that I find interesting as well? How do we have free will if it's all in God's plan? It's a good question. From what I've heard, I gather this: Just because God knows what choices I will make ahead of time doesn't mean he forces us to choose it. I know the Sun will rise tomorrow, does that mean I force it to? No. God knows when we will sin and when we will do good, but he doesn't force us to. He simply knows are decisions before we ourselves do. Good question.
@OjohYou The phrase "my personal discomforts" can be extended to include the entirety of the human race, if one's mind can encompass such a vast majority of pain and suffering. But yes, thank you for pointing that out. All too often I find myself focusing too much on me, and not on the big picture.
Add members of Bronx Church Joy Fellowship who died in a car accident heading to their sister church today. It's terrible that it happened and I hope that the people in mourning can find peace in the midst of their tragedy.
I personally have nothing against religious beliefs, as long as they stay personal, and do not try to advertise for it. Go to church, have fun, enjoy your Sunday. But when it comes to work, science, politics, health, public policies, education, get your personal belief out of it, because it is not personal, it is about the society as a whole.
My Christian father shamed other Christians for not believing in Devine protection as this video portrays it. That was one of the arguments which prompted me to leave the church.
why do believers worry more for their earthly lives than any other? every time I'm driving in the car with my mom she goes "God please in camp angels in and around this vehicle" when I was a kid and she'd say that I always looked around the car waiting for an angel to just POOF out of nowhere, none ever showed up. Now Whenever she says this I can't help but see her as a hypocrite. I mean really, if God's almighty protection is real then WHY would you ever rely on man's ingenuity to save you?
Mark 16:17-18 (KJV) "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." And they do
I usually agree with these messages, but in this case I think that the message half incorrect; while it is true that Christians largely believe that having hope in their [g]od is essential, they also believe that sin has ran rampant in this life because of original sin, and subsequently even the saints of the day take precautionary action, as becoming a victim is non descriminant.
@yhenry77 This isn't a "heartless" video, it's a logical video. It's not like they're insulting anyone in the video. In fact, they're making a good point. When someone dies, we must focus on THEM, NOT on "God" and how it's "God's decision" to "take them to Heaven". It's also a lot less painful when someone dies to know that there was no God who "should've been protecting them", and to realize that these things just happen. If "Dawn" doesn't like this, she can request the video be taken down.
@1984vrs Do I detect some sarcasm in your feedback? What I meant with "control the uneducated masses" was that a handful of people found it was in their best interest to establish a certain cult in order to have some sort of say in the everyday matters of the population... It's a pretty logical statement. I'm not trying to offend anyone or sound like those people that see aliens. Gee D:
I think the "divine protection" concept is the safety-net of "salvation." Though the body will be destroyed the eternal soul lives on or something like that. Makes about as much sense as any of their other theories.
Both. Agnostic refers to my knowledge, ie I don't know, but I think the chances of a supernatural god like Yahweh being real are almost zero. Atheist refers to my belief that the existence of a supernatural god is highly unlikely. Hope this clears up any ambiguity... Unfortunately a lot of people get confused with the terminology.
@CommanderSnowball My reply, 1. That doesn't REALLY answer question, my question was, "if no one knows gods plan then how do we know it exists" but... saying because god loves us, doesn't really make sense. 2. Well i am an atheist, I have been attempting to unconvert Christians for YEARS, but if he showed himself to me i would convert in a SNAP, so... why has he not shown himself to me?
@CommanderSnowball A. You say that "the world just sucks." Wouldn't a good planner creating a universe create the best out of all possible universes? B. There is no indication that the bad things described in the video happened because of people lacking faith. C. Do you think that everything that happens is good?
@Strangerinasland I apologize. I see your point. I am simply trying to explain in an easier way how God can give us free will while knowing what we will do.
@dmarvin811 I assume it because it has been this way so far. by the same token YOU are assuming this as well. why would i apply this to future events as i've applied them to past events? because it seems to work. any other moronic questions which answer themselves?
Beautifully made video! It asks expected questions, hints at the problem of Evil. It tries to set up an ideological tension between 2 important doctrines: 1) The Providence of God and 2) The existence of Evil in the world. The video even quotes the Bible at times which is good for thoroughness. However the video also leaves much out. I'm sure Jesus believed in Divine Provide nce but this doesn't mean He necessarily believed evil would NOT happen to good people. In fact He believed evil would happen to HIMSELF as well although He was NOT guilty of sin or a crime. Even His judge said, "I find no fault in this man"!(John 19:6) Christianity does NOT teach there is no evil in the universe. It does not teach that the Devil's hand cannot reach out and touch us. But it DOES teach us that the end,the final end is NOT at physical death. This is what many atheists believe. ( That just as a dog gets run over in the road and dies, Man the animal also dies and goes NOWHERE after death.) When Jesus was dying on the cross He told a repentent criminal, "Truly I say to you, TODAY YOU will be WITH me in PARADISE"! This means Jesus believed in Heaven. This also means the theif at Calvary believed IN Jesus. Even one Roman soldier observing all this exclaimed, "Surely this is the Son of God"! Jesus had THAT effect on people, even at His weakest point. This does not prove He was who He said He was. But it does show Jesus had the ability to inspire faith with His demeanor and His words. Even Neanderthals buried their dead with jewelery, tools and food for a long journey. This proves the evolution ary man evolved a brain that could see things beyond DEATH. One could write this off as wishful thinking. Or the human brain can sense truths without scientific proofs. Sometimes if I'm worried my wife will contact me and ask "WHAT'S WRONG"? She tells me I CAN feel in my heart your concerned. This MAY Indicate the human brains powers of perception are inexplicable but CORRECT. Evolution may have hardwired belief in the supernatural. Some posit the existence of the "God Gene". If evolution designed the human brain this way then the fault is NOT with religion but the human brains unrestricted imagination.
