I have to wonder. Considering the violent and oppressive history of the Catholic Church and the fact that the priests and clergy seem kind of evil, how in the hell is the Catholic Church still the biggest church? It's insane!
You are right. They also employ a marketing strategy. They promise believers a happy life now followed by an even happier afterlife later. Just drop your money in the collection box or send in your check. But the best part is that their claims can never be fact checked. We impose truth standards on products like toothpaste and bug spray but not on religion.
Even Jesus is divided against his own self in the New Testament. There are several instances where he contradicts himself, and many more where the apostles contradict Jesus...I should do a video on it.
Christians will just do the same thing they've always done and "interpret" the contradictions to mean anything they want. Inconsistencies don't disturb the irrational mind.
truthbknwn And Paul contradicted a LOT of Jesus' teachings. In fact, in all of the writings attributed to Paul, not once does he ever quote anything Jesus ever said in the gospels. This includes the Sermon on the Mount, the Beattitudes, the parables and various teachings; and he mentions not a peep about Jesus' miracles, the events of his birth, or anything else. The reason for this is because, for Paul, Jesus was strictly a spiritual being who never had a physical existence on Earth. If he had believed otherwise, he would have made liberal use of the events of Jesus' life to highlight and reinforce his own teachings. It is the reason why so much of what we read in his letters contradicts the teachings of the gospels.
ElveeKaye Re: The apostle Paul. I agree with you, and Paul even contradicts his own self in SEVERAL places. However, contradictions aren't exclusive to the Pauline epistles. The other apostles contradict Jesus, and even Jesus contradicts HIMSELF. I believe in God, but IMHO, this Bible cannot be "God's Word" to have so MANY contradictions in it. I have no agenda to be saying that, i.e., I am not serving Satan as so many Christians accuse me of, I AM JUST BEING HONEST about what my own personal research has revealed.
I just scrolled through the entire comments, and you guys have some very strong points and evidence. I'm a Christian and I respect all of your guys' opinions and beliefs.
This is just me thinking... if a house divided cannot stand... then Humans divided (in religion) by a belief of God cannot stand... what if EVERYONE didn't believe in God...
but it's so clear, christians please don't have anymore children , you don't want to risk your children burning in hell, sell EVERYTHING YOU OWN and give it to the poor. You must become like beggars if you want to get to heaven and keep all 613 mosaic commandments and heaven awaits you.
I went to Catholic schools for 12 years, though by 6th grade started to see thru B.S. That said, I do give them credit for offering several comparative religion classes in high school, along with more traditional fare. I mean, they were less afraid of the competition than some other groups. When the gullible tell me how god speaks to them, I point out that everyone in all these other faiths think the exact same thing, yet no two can agree on what god is saying. If they allow that the FEELING they have is legitimate, they have no clear way of explaining how their experience is demonstrably different from a Charlie Manson or other nutcase. And for me, that's why mysticism is so suspect.
I'm disappointed that you didn't mention the Orthodox. I was raised in an (mainly) Orthodox country and I would love to see what you'd say about the Great Schism and how the church was divided only because of one word (filioque)
Which is the true religion? They all say theirs is the true one. I am confused when I ask. I am anti religion. I tried catholic, aog, baptist. My personal opinion is that they all are pure and utter bullshit no matter what perspective I take. It took me a long time to realise the spiritual battle within me was no longer needed.
Free will, your choice. I just don't get the atheist obsession with attacking Christians and all the hate and vitriol...including attacking holidays and starting petty lawsuits in schools and in gov't...why not just let people believe what they want? If you want to believe there's no God, no afterlife, that's your choice. As a Catholic we're taught free will and not to force our religion down anyone's throat. With that said I'm not a Bible thumper like other denominations and I don't regularly attend church, that's my choice, I do still believe and I do combine it with a bit of New Age beliefs as well since I'm a psychic medium, not by choice, and also a paranormal investigator and I can tell you there very much is an afterlife, there are spirits among us as well as demons and angels....I've had countless paranormal experiences in hotels, cemeteries, saloons, hospitals, homes, etc. I've had many spirits acknowledge Jesus and some that have attested to the existence of purgatory. I've done probably a dozen demonic home cleansings I could write a book about w/ eye witnesses, video recordings, photos, ghost hunting equipment going off and voices on spirit boxes.... But if you want to believe in nothing, so be it, just don't shove your agenda down everyone else's throats or you're just as bad as the Mormons and JVs going door to door pestering people...
BTW if you're curious, I have a photo of 2 demons from one of the first homes I cleansed sent by the grandmother who took a photo of her niece (the demons were primarily communicating with the 3 yr old granddaughter but affecting the entire family) I also have photos of spirit mists, orbs, etc. and videos of my paranormal equipment going off when an entity is around and a spirit box that has voices that answer questions which you can view on youtube. facebook.com/RyanPrivee
Older video but absolutely perfect! "God does not bring confusion but peace" Yeah, right.. LMAO! Excellent video to refer people to who are on the fence as far as whether religion is true or not.
***** They hate being recorded. I remember when I was a kid my dad told me that people outside the church shouldn't see them do that. Now it's pretty funny to me too, but back then it was crazy.
+ProjectG There are a lot more - think of all the "heresies" of ancient day, I only may mention the Arians (who denied the devine nature of Christ, not to be confused with "Aryans") and the Catharists. The Orthodox Christians, themselves split into several denominations, may not be forgotten as well.
Back in the 1960's I went to Catholic religious classes in the evenings until they scheduled them at the same time that Star Trek was on TV. Then I quit.
Good video, but you forgot that the first major splits were splits between the early church and "heretics". Then between the church and the Nestorian, then Oriental Orthodox churches, then the Eastern Orthodox Church. There are actually 24 churches in the Catholic church, in which many of them are Catholic versions of their aforementioned counterparts.
I think that all Christians should go back and follow the two commands of Jesus: Love the others like you love yourself and forgive those that hurt you. Not because you will go to heaven which most probably doesn't exist but because you feel happy in your present life
Better yet, follow the advice of Thomas Jefferson - "We should all then, like the Quakers, live without an order of priests, moralize for ourselves, follow the oracle of conscience, and say nothing about what no man can understand, nor therefore believe."
Great comment! I agree with you 90% because I do believe heaven exists. It would be ideal to live in a loving relationship withal people in fact that is what heaven is going to be like. The only problem in being able to do this in the world we live in today is that not everyone cares about being good to their neighbor. Some people believe in persecuting others for sport. Some people believe that stealing and killing are ok if they can give themselves a good reason for doing it. Even if all people who call themselves Christians loved their neighbor and their enemies, there would still be pain and suffering in the world, because every time wicked people use their free will do to evil others get hurt. That is why heaven is a reality. God has made a place for all people who nurture love in their hearts to live in peace after He destroys all the ones who refuse to do good once and for all on judgment day. I wish you well.
Maybe the problem with the world is the example we are given to follow. Jesus says to forgive, and says to love others, but what does he do? If you don't love him and do as he says, he sends you to hell to be tortured forever.
Lea Leandre I think that we should follow the preaching of Jesus about love without having in mind the reward of heaven but just because make us to feel good with ourselves..
Amazing grace! Glancing through the comments, it appears that a number of viewers, even when confronted with the ironies and paradoxes of Christianity, still hold tight to the misbeliefs. What will it take?
Christians denominations different people twisting the bible to fit their wants. Christians say that in order to understand the Bible, a Christian has to let the Holy Spirit guide them and interpret it for them. However, many of these sincere Bible-believing Christians who do just that, asking the Holy Spirit inside them to help them interpret the Bible, come to disagree on countless doctrines and interpretations of the Bible! How could that be? Why would the Holy Spirit, the third part of God, which supposedly helps believers in understanding and interpreting the Bible, be causing all these different interpretations among sincere believers? Does the Holy Spirit love disunity? Does it love playing mind games with people? Such a man made book, the Bible.
ajs1031 I wouldn't say bullshit. Bullshit can be used for something. It is silly. I was involved with it. For that, I can thank my parents. No more. Now I just annoy them every chance I get.
I've got to say, growing up I was a baptist. Later started seeing Southern Baptists after a move. None of those ever really mentioned smoking or dancing. Basically, what defined a baptist was "get dunked, then (southern) meet us in back for something to eat after the service."
Is there some sort of Flow Chart with which I can ask someone questions about their opinion about certain topics and then determine which of the many denominations they belong to?
1. The point I was making is that just because I can't give you a definite answer doesn't mean I'm wrong. 2. Excellent. You understand God requires no causation. Good job.
I loved this ! FYI I grew up Southern Independtnant Bible Baptist (a divisional off of Full Gospel Baptist) it was bananas & you could dance but it better not be anywhere near a Church !
I very much appreciate this video. As a recently athiest who converted to Christianity, I agree with everything that you've highlighted. In fact there are even more conflicts you didn't mention I'm sure for the sake of brevity. I am very hesitant to join any church because most are utterly confused and hypocritical. Satan it seems has taken over the vast majority. Roman Catholic Church was the first one, then the creation of Islam, then protestantism and now there are close to 40,000 doctrines in the world. It's like a huge puzzle. Very interesting indeed.
I live in NJ and churches here exhude love and arent battling each other. I attend several different churches. Christians disagree of stuff but still love each other. Disagreement leads to learning and proves that the love we have for each other goes beyond mental argeement on trivial matters and that the presence of Jesus in us supercedes them.
Daniel 8:10 "And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them." Stars can be stepped on.
While I will admit that is a valid point, proving the Flood story does not solely rest on discovering what pitch and gopher wood were. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I get busy but don't like leaving things unanswered.
Great video, too many atheists and agnostics underestimate the divisions within Christianity and treat it as one religion, when really it's at least several quite different faiths, and arguably 33,000. Different Christian denominations used to absolutely hate each other, but they've come together more recently over issues like abortion and opposing marriage equality. It's time atheists and skeptics started trying to exploit these divisions to turn them against each other again!
"A House divided" is not originally a quote from Lincoln, he got the idea from New Testament. It appears that both Matthew and Mark quoted Jesus for that. It may well be older than that.
That saying is often applied to couples in Alabama wherein one spouse favors a different sports team than his/her partner. "Ya'll livin inna house Dee-vided" :)
Except when Jesus applied it he did it in a logical fallacy. In the story Jesus is accused of being in league with the devil, that he can cast demons out because he is in league with the devil. His response to the accusation is that a house divided against itself cannot stand. The only problem is that if Jesus were in league with the devil and were trying to convince people that he was God's son then the demons doing what Jesus commands them to do is an example of a house united, not divided. Sure Jesus might have been the first to use the phrase(I think it has even earlier anthers) His use was sloppy and did not make any sense logically.
And this is the #1 proof that there is no "holy ghost" that "brings men unto all truth" via "spiritual discernment". Needless to say, it is all about HUMANS and what THEY think. Priceless!
6) What did you think of these ancient holy books when you read them? Bhagavad Gita, & Quran, & Epic of Gilgamesh, & Iliad & Odyssey, & Qayyumu'l-Asma, & Writings of Baha'u'llah, Abdu'l-Baha, & Shoghi Effendi, & the Vedas, the Avestas of Zarathustra, & the Adi-Granth, & Donghak Scripture, & Pyrgi Tablets, & Hermetica, Kybalion, & Svetambara, & Ginza Rba, Qolusta, & Evangelion, & Samaritan Torah, & Kojiki, & Zhuangzi, & Ofudesaki, & Kalam-e Saranjam, & Yazidi. How did you disprove them?
3:54 Try this experiment. Get lots of religious people of many denominations in the same room and give them access to plenty of food, water, plumbing and weaponry. Open the door after 30 days. Repeat as necessary.
"broken people and then tried to "save" them ?" To create love, who is forgiven much lovers much. ANd to ensure that all believers are convinced that all resistence to Gods will is evil and ugly. This is great for believers for only then do we experience unending bliss in love with our creator with any evil notions dismissed and distilled. For unbelievers, it couldn't get any worse.
@Zeldarulah Could be that he was referencing religion, if so, my bad, I never seem to be able to notice that people are referencing something else than the video in a COMMENTING SECTION wich is used to COMMENT on the VIDEO.
Our God is an awesome God. Seek him for yourself, don't listen to hateful smear videos. He is right, and the world is confused, blind, dark, hateful, chaotic, and stupid. Much like this video. God loves you and wants to give you life.
@memully: 11. When was Jesus born? 12. Which was created first man or animals? 13. Where did John baptise? 14. Who is the lord of this world? 15. Can god be tempted? 16. Where did Jesus give his first sermon? 17. Must we obey the Old Testament? 18. has there ever been a rightous person? 19. Where did Jesus and his family go after his birth? 20. Are people saved by faith or works?
"...A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved - I do not expect the house to fall - but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other..." etc. Abraham Lincoln's 'House Divided' speech can be found at abrahamlincolnonline org.
@82becbec let me clear things up for you. since the existence of religion, there were people who did not believe in religion, what happened to those people? burned, killed, pursued, etc... what do christians think about what should be done about us now? pretty much everything stated above, in the worst case scenario.
Another glorious illustration of the truth of God's word. Jesus said this to Peter in Mathew 16:18 "You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it." Apparently since the church is being discussed in a video in 2015, the gates of hell have not overpowered her. She is alive and well, just like Jesus said.
13) Yes, as I grew older I began to have doubts. The more I read the Bible, the more I saw problems. Yet, you must remember the Bible is literature. It takes more than reading, you have to study it. The more I studied, the more I saw these problems fade away. Leave more responses if you want, but I won't respond until tomorrow.
My home town is full of car lots, new and used, many taverns/bars and numerous churches, they're ALL businesses but only one of them sells an invisible product and is tax exempt... Last year it was in the news that they busted a pot dealer... in the list of charges against him the one that caught my eye was... Tax Evasion ! that's right, he didn't claim his profits from his dealings... I was thinking he should of became a Minister and claim his profits from selling weed were tax exempt.
The house divided quote was from the Bible. When Jesus was accused of speaking for the Devil by the Pharisees, he used that argument to explain why he couldn't be serving evil.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" 2 Timothy 3:16 Before a person will accept the Bible as proof they must have faith for without faith it is impossible to please God.
