Great catch. That fat female at the bottom of the group had an eating disorder!! Down here in California we have to use single barbless hooks. This adds to the suspense because the fish can get off if one does not maintain constant light pressure on the salmon. The often shake the hook anyway. The barbless hook regulation has been in effect for 40 years. It is good for the fishery because shorts can easily be released unharmed without taking them out of the water. Thanks for the tips on the herring strips. Hope you have a great season. I just got my boat back from the yard. The new engine is awesome. I took my first trip 2 days ago. 3 of us landed 3 nice ones and 4 shook the hook. The weather was really rough with 25mph winds. This makes it difficult to keep the fish on the hook with the boat surging in the waves.
Hi Johnny, thanks. I get all my rigs from Big Weenie brand. shop.bigweeniebrand.com/main.sc;jsessionid=7AFA4EFFA68F03B5F83BB14AE133F41D.p3plqscsfapp001
Hi Nick, I have been watching a lot of your videos -- I really enjoy them. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. For your copper setups. What size copper (lbs test) do you use and do you need a special rod for use with the copper line (is the copper hard on the line eyes)? I've never used copper so any info you could provide would be helpful. Thanks
Hi Jerry, I use 45# copper (Blood Run) and Okuma 8' 6" Leadcore Copper rods (CPCL-862M). The rods have larger hardened eyelets and they are stiff enough to pull in-line planer boards well. Hope that helps. Thanks for the positive feedback. NFN out...
If your going to use meat on just one line I would go with one of the mid-sized blade set-ups and run it on a wire dipsy down below the thermal cline. Good luck and tight lines.
That is correct I do not add water. I used to many years ago but I found that they work just as good without it. If the strip is still in good shape when you pull lines you can return it to the bag. Then store in the freezer when back on land.
No-Fish Nick's Adventures I contacted your buddy Steve-o one day about meat he said he couldn't get any whole herring and we talked for about an hr about fishing , I also seen in one of your ice fishing video's you where fishing my local lake during deer season me and my buddy's fish the Bailey's brown trout tournament and we are fishing the KD all week maybe I'll run into you
I don’t understand why you do so much work to catch salmon. 🤷♂️. We catch our limit of fish every time we are out. Me personally would never waste the time you did just to prepare the bait. Seems like way to much work
When I first started out using the herring In the little helmets my catch rates went up and I was getting more of the bigger kings so the prep time to me is well worth it. I've never met anyone that fishes Lake Michigan that can get a limit every time out. I'm guessing that you don't fish the great lakes.
