DIY 12v pump water jerry can.
When I first seen these I knew I wanted one. To my shock they were over $200. Me being me I set out to see if I could make one.
The first idea was to put all connections through the lid. I quickly gave up on this because of the lid design. (Now I think I could use small brass hose fittings and maybe make it work.)
The second idea connections beside the lid. The first few attempts were complete failures, breaking several Poly fittings in the process.
We eventually got there and it works great!
Parts list
Bunnings - Brass Nut, Brass fitting, Poly hose fitting
Jerry can - Proquip 22L water jerry
12v shower -4wd supercentre, Companion or equivalent
Waterproof electrical gland -Jaycar
Process
1. Mark and drill holes in top. Ensure you leave enough room to get the jerry can lid on and off
2. Measure and cut shower hose, leave enough slack so the pump can reach the bottom of the tank.
3. Disassemble pump switch, feed through water tight gland, silicone and reassemble
4. Attach fittings to hose and feed through hole (floss makes it heaps easier) and silicone and tighten in place.
That’s how easy it seems, we had a few issues along the way but got there in the end.
If you can’t be stuffed doing all that check out On Tap products for the already built version.

I got a black one the exact same. Lives in the back of my patrol 24/7. It's honestly perfect to wash the dog before she gets in muddy etc. Came in handy when the baby had a blow out on the side of the road! Aha Best mod I've done.

It’s such a good idea. It was too good not to recreate. Ain’t nothing worse than a baby blow out 🤣 I’m glad I don’t have to deal with that anymore

Question love this thinking of hooking up to a roof top water tank on my truck. Can you put a standard hose on the end instead

They are a great setup. I made one similar but used a black 35L container. Put it in the sun and it heats up on its own accord beautifully or next to the fire. Just keep an eye on those pumps. They are chinese nasties and are notorious for failure. I carry a spare one for just in case.

That’s a good idea in the sun. I started looking at higher flow and better quality pumps after I finished it. I think there will end up being a mk2 on this project 🤣

I like it. I bet there were a few choice words while trying to install the fittings. 😂

Brilliant mate. I want one myself but don’t want to pay a premium for it. Also the other ones I’ve seen people build online use parts that are expensive and hard to find in Australia

Considering on-tap had a patent on their product; the labour time and material cost for you copying their product would have been more than just buying their product. Also, they come up on market place 2nd for less than $100.

There called ontap ($210 for the green ones). Not worth making if u have to purchase everything $43 just for the container at supercheap, fittings, silicon and water pump maybe $150 if u get a decent pump (fuel driving around to different store to get the parts),then the time spent to make it all work, you've already spent $150-$200

I tend to agree, most campers I know have this stuff laying around. But if you have to go and buy the gear I think the ontap will be a better product.
