DIY Pulling a 4x4 Post Out of Ground

We were replacing our backyard fence, so we needed to get rid of the worn fence. This project required removing thirty-two 4x4 post out of the ground. We bought a T-Post Puller from The Tractor Supply Company www.tractorsup... along with a two-foot chain with a hook on the end of it. We also bought a 2" diameter, 10' length of EMT pipe from Lowe's to use for leverage. The posts popped right out of the ground.

Thank you. I just purchased this and was wondering if I needed a chain. Initially I was thinking the little cut out was going to be 4.5 inches to fit around the 4x4 so I was a little thrown off. Now I have a full understanding of how this is meant to be used, either with a tpost or a 4x4. Thanks again!

I know this is an old video, but can you please tell me what kind of chain you used? Tractor supply has so many different grades and types of chains! I’m going to try and replicate this video the best I can. Thank you for the great tutorial. Well done! You got a new subscriber!

Hey friend, thanks for watching. I don’t remember the size of the chain, but it came from the Tractor Store. I think it came with the puller; it’s about four feet long and quite thick. Hope that helps.

@@lifeovercoffee He speaks in the video he purchased a 4500 lb chain and hook to match that size. They have all different strengths at the store to buy at your preferred length. I heard him say he bought 2 ft of chain.

I think the log chain might slip. The 4x4s give a little, allowing the chain to hold in place. If there was a way of keeping the chain from riding up the pole, it might work.

I found the solution for it. Screw in a 8 inch lag screw with a ring on top attach the hook to the ring and jank it out of the ground

Who puts 4x4 posts in the ground with no concrete? I have never seen that in Texas. First dry spell and that post would be rattling around in the hole.

They got the chain at Tractor Supply. They have it on big rolls and will cut to size. -Sheron

I've been working barefoot my entire life and only had one slight injury (busted a toenail off lol) .. When working barefoot, you are instinctively more aware of your feet. It's a Southern thing.
