[UPDATE: I've made 3 different types of bird gyms total! Check out the other two below.

My sister came up with a great idea on how to make a portable bird gym (although, it really is more a way for her to combine a desk and bird gym together). The total costs of the PVC and hardware was about $6. If you include the table and perches, the total comes out to be $50.
Here are the materials I used:
1 PVC Pipe 1/2" x 2' ($0.99)
1 PVC Tee 1/2" ($0.35)
1 PVC Elbow 1/2" ($0.21)
2 PVC Slip Caps 1/2" ($0.32 each)
2 Wing Nuts 1/4" ($1.18 each)
2 Cut Washers 3/4" ($0.40 each)
2 Fender Washers 1/4" ($0.12 each)
2 Hex Bolts 1/4" x 1" ($0.12 each)
2 Lockwashers 5/16" ($0.17 each)
Comfy Perch (about $9)
Branch Perch (about $5)
Table-mate XL ($35 plus S&H $10)

My sister called the Table-mate company directly and it cost her only $30 a few years ago. There are also smaller versions of the Table-mate here.

Mocha is partying on the perch right now! She loves it. She flies to it all the time.

Very creative, that looks like a lot of fun and I'm sure the birds love it.

Yes, I think so! I know that one of my sisters' cockatiels flies to it now Although that one cockatiel still likes perching by her laptop screen- it goes against the brid's natural instinct to be on the highest perch!

***** I didn't! Very cool! By the way, I noticed the quadratic formula, but I'm not sure what the N equation is. What is it? :)

I have grey, sun conure and caique parrots. My caique looks super active and I wanted a play gym for him. Any suggestions

Oh, my first thoughts I had (as I keep a lot of poultry & waterfowl outside) were surely the birds poop all over the comp screen and keys - you can't train a bird to "go" in a certain place. I could not stand that - it's bad enough when the hens come in the front or back door and eat the cats' food from their dishes - they leave their big and smelly messages all over as I THINK a hen poops about every minute or so! However, all that said, you have created a very practical bird playground.

It would've been my decision to have a separate play gym, but it was what my sister requested. The beauty of that gym is that she can easily twist the perches around to a desirable configuration. I've actually potty trained one of my conures to poop on command. He knows that when I lean him over a trash can or toilet, he needs to poop-- the problem is they poop every 15 - 30 minutes! Really interesting about your hens-- they sound pretty smart! Maybe you can place the cat dish higher up? :)

Do you have a link/video to how you modified the shower perch? I'm new to this whole PVC building venture. Otherwise, I'm sure it's the easiest of all of these to build. :P Otherwise, just listing the PVC fittings and such that you used at the top, allowing it to be cradled over the door, would be superb!! Thanks.

I built the shower perch for my sister and it was only to modify her existing perch-- I don't have it with me, so I can't tell you the exact fittings I used. If you grab a screenshot and buy the necessary fittings it'll be easy. Buy 1/2 inch PVC and 1/2 inch fittings. Make sure they're 1/2 inch because sometimes others sizes can get mixed into the box. Get a PVC cutter. I like my ratcheting one. And I used 6 elbows... I think, and 2 slip caps. But if you're making the entire thing you'll need more. Good luck!

Hey love could you tell me where you get all those rope bridges/perches? I am looking for some because I'm making my own play area. Also any places where I can find cheap bird toys would be great! I have a rowdy jenday conure :p

PetSmart or Petco. You can also check out Dr. Fosters and Smitch. Good luck!

So does the comfy perch just fit any 1/2" threaded PV coupling?
@XoletteLife
@XoletteLife 6 лет назад
Sean Stafford The comfy perches I've used, yes they fit into the PVC pieces-- not sure about threaded pieces though. The PVC fittings I got were not threaded.

XoletteLife thank you for your swift reply! My comfy perch had threaded end pieces so it couldn't fit it into my non-threaded PVC until yesterday when I took it with me to home depot and someone there was able to find the right couplings.

Cool! You're pretty creative with that PVC, but you should move on to woodworking! Think of it the same way as PVC stuff (the lego analogy), but with wood, you can make things smaller, prettier, and just as strong. You would also get a chance to use your knives a bit!
@XoletteLife
@XoletteLife 10 лет назад
Definitely! I love the idea of creating things. Woodworking would be great to go into, but I'd need some classes to get some basics. I secretly watch a ton of HGTV so I kind of know more things than I actually know how to do. :)

@@rp101aquatics6 You can also try Lowe's? Awhile ago I looked into furniture PVC. There are a lot more options compared to ones just for plumbing plus different colors. This is one site, but you could find other ones. pvcfittingstore.com

If I was home, my solution would be to simply open the Windows wide open... But if I had to do it for another personn I would do it in wood. But the idea is good
