My sister came up with a great idea on how to make a portable bird gym (although, it really is more a way for her to combine a desk and bird gym together). The total costs of the PVC and hardware was about $6. If you include the table and perches, the total comes out to be $50.
Here are the materials I used:
1 PVC Pipe 1/2" x 2' ($0.99)
1 PVC Tee 1/2" ($0.35)
1 PVC Elbow 1/2" ($0.21)
2 PVC Slip Caps 1/2" ($0.32 each)
2 Wing Nuts 1/4" ($1.18 each)
2 Cut Washers 3/4" ($0.40 each)
2 Fender Washers 1/4" ($0.12 each)
2 Hex Bolts 1/4" x 1" ($0.12 each)
2 Lockwashers 5/16" ($0.17 each)
Comfy Perch (about $9)
Branch Perch (about $5)
Table-mate XL ($35 plus S&H $10)

My sister called the Table-mate company directly and it cost her only $30 a few years ago. There are also smaller versions of the Table-mate here.
