This DIY seedling grow table design works great to save you money from buying seedlings from plant nurseries or big box stores and improves the quality and health of your plants when planted in your garden. This seedling table keeps the rodents from eating your baby plants and keeps your plants out of and above any soil diseases. By adding an A-frames to the seedling table, covering with plastic and using a heating source like a seedling heating mat or 1000/1500 watt utility heater you can get a big head start on your garden season and increase your harvest.

Thank you again, David, for your dedication to teaching others about the MM. I have gone over the course book several times, but whenever I get confused about building and set-up, I turn to your videos for help. I am a visual/auditory learner. God bless you for the time and effort you put into this.

I really like the blanket idea. Thank you for suggesting it. It would be easy enough to put it on in the evening and remove it in the morning so the plants get as much sun as possible.

Thank you for recognizing the amount of work and time it takes to make these educational videos. I do it for you and everyone else who wants to learn what I have to share. I'm glad they are helpful. I too am a visual/audio learner and have learned much from others videos.

Love this idea. Last spring I started 72 tomato plants. They were several inches tall and looked so healthy till I tried to harden them up outside. Within 5 minutes of setting a few plants outside, not even in direct sun, they were dead. I learned from an older gardener, tomatoes need sunlight when they first sprout out of the ground, in order to develop their natural sun screen. So, this kind of seed table would be grand next spring.

Awesome Wayne. By following the step-by-step in the Mittleider Gardening Course book and asking questions and learning from the Mittleider gardening group on Facebook you'll have a wonderful garden.

Ohh and I just got my Mittleider course book. I would recommend it to anyone. I have only flipped through and read some stuff here and there but none the less some good information to help anyone whether or not they follow Mittleider method or not.

Most Mittleider gardens are done right in the existing soil. They promise a great garden in any soil. The custom solid definitely has its benefits but both work great. I asked Jim Kennard if in the 30+ countries and thousands of gardens that he has seen if custom soil or existing soil produces healthier plants or higher yields. He said he has not seen a difference either way.

I'm sitting here with my book right next to me. I'm reading the advanced section on building a seedhouse. We have a small 4'x8' area on the south of our house that we an squeeze in a small greenhouse. With the size of our garden and the year round gardening we can do here we are going to be planting a lot of seeds. It'll take more space than we want to give up in the garden using the in the garden greenhouse.

Love your videos. You have a great hybrid of ideas. I had my woodchips delivered this season and I hope to catch up with you :) I'm going for it this year, and building a greenhouse. Keep sharing your knowledge and ideas! This is a great fall-back plan.

I would recommend stiffing up the PVC supports so if you need to you can add a heavy blanket over the top at night. Your heater will be running all night long if you only use plastic. And if the heater fails your plants will die. I lost a lot of plants trying to put them outdoors thinking just plastic would work. I will still be putting my plants in my garage and using grow lights and a heater.

Can you do a video on how you transplant your seedlings into your raised beds? I'm just curious if you remove the entire plant cleanly from the grow medium and replant or transfer into the bed in its native soil. Thanks.

Did the Back to Eden garden method not work out for you? I live in Houston area also, and was wondering why you switched to Mittleider. Thanks for all the great videos... good stuff.

I would talk to your local plant nursery, master gardener group, feed store or county animal control for suggestions on how they control squirrels. Once you have that in control plant your Mittleider garden.

can you tell me please where to get your heating mat from and does it need electricity to run it?

If you don't have space to build a greenhouse you can use the unplanted space in your grow box and you don't have to build a greenhouse. Simply use the existing structure for your greenhouse. It saves you time, money and space by not having to build a greenhouse. Does that make sense?

This may be elementary to you, but it is new to me. How did you attach the legs to the body of the table? I have studied the video and can't see any evidence. I really like the plan and want to make one.

I want to try this in my very small tiny garden. But we have squirrels. I can't do much but want to try planting something in the spring. Any ideas?

I don't understand using grow-box space for the table. Is it just to make use of the netting over the grow-box?

I stopped using the BTE method after two years of trying it and realizing that it is unsustainable for me in a SHTF situation because I don't have chickens to make manure there is no way I could get a 1-5 year supply of compost and mulch on my property. After growing Mittleider and BTE gardens right next to each other I saw the huge yields and fast growing healthy plants and knew I could feed my family using the Mittleider method but not the BTE. I do store all I need to grow food now.
