One tip i recommended when you want to apply stickers or vinal or this stuff is to use some soapy water i normally use dishwashing liquid then if it isn't where you want it you can move it around without it sticking and if you have it where you want it let it dry and boom it's perfect

I don’t know if anyone suggested this, but make yourself a scrap piece of matching material. Then you can use it to do trial cuts or passes with your tool, and get the depth or cut you want.

Thank you for all of your content. Have you ever worked with a Kenner Ski Barge. I have a 1969, 15.5ft (fiberglass) that's in great shape but I would like to put a raised floor and/or a front deck in.

That turned out very good! I am currently putting all new carpet and cubbys in my boat. I was thinking about buying that type of floor but was skeptical about it sticking to unfinished fiberglass. What is your thoughts on using that flooring on fiberglass floors?

Hey guys. I love these videos wholeheartedly. I'm starting to put a plan together to build one of these bad boys. But I'm at a loss to what to aim for boat wise. What are some suggestion you can give for affordable boats(make, model, etc., etc.)

That took some dedication. Great job. How easy is that foam to clean after fishing? Does it absorb liquid and stain easy?

When you use a router don't start at the full depth take a little bit off at a time By making a couple passes till you reach the depth. also there is a down cut and a up cut bit Depending if you want the surface to be smooth or the bottom of the groove to be smooth

@Zrelli_

Hey man. I used to run a big CNC router to cut cooler covers from EVA foam and we found that using stone grinding bits work really well. We would use a cone bit with a small radius at the top. The grinding action leaves a super smooth finish and it also creates a little bit of heat which helps melt and seal the foam. Give it a try if you have a chance. If you can, use a high RPM on that router. Just a little trick of the trade I picked up years ago.
@Zrelli_
@Zrelli_ 2 года назад
Also the taper in the cone adds for a nice transition between the top of the foam to the bottom of the groove.

Just putting it out there, perhaps a good way to stop shifting and keep the foam flat would be to use strips of thin double sided tape at an appropriate distance on the paper and stick it to a perfectly flat surface. Would solve a lot of the problems I have seen you have during various builds.

For your border lines, you don't even have to mark them out. Just clamp the piece up against a flat edge (back of your work bench or whatever) and hold the router up against that to make your straight line.

Hi Mike, I love the look of the self-routing eva. My question is how to hide a seam since my front deck is larger than the sheet of foam? I've done it prevoiusly with the pre-routed eva but really like the clean look of the foam that you're using in this video. Thanks
@TinyBoatNation
@TinyBoatNation 4 месяца назад
Hey, you have to overlap the two pieces and cut once. Then pull the bottom piece out, and they should align perfectly.

You could attach a guide to the router plate by drilling two holes through the square end, and use a scrap of cusaboard. It would speed your process up significantly and have repeatable results.

You shouldn’t knock your skills I’ve been calling your tutorials the Bible for DYI boat building. Just curious what gauge sheet aluminum did you use for the subfloor and hatches? I have a 15 deep v that I need to make lighter and tougher since my buddy and I are like the post service when we fish we go in rain sleet and snow.

I told my wife that when I get home from deployment I’m buying a new boat to build out. I was expecting some pushback but to my surprise she just said, “that’s okay you deserve it.” I don’t want to get someone’s used beat to heck project that’s corroded beyond belief or anything. I’ve got some time to figure it out. But I really want to build a deep v hull. Maybe a 14-16 alumacraft.
@halsteadmorris3700
@halsteadmorris3700 2 года назад
I built a 14 ft deep v alumacraft. Awesome boat, cuts through water and is insanely stable. Hits upper 20's with my 25hp yamaha, but can also make good progress with a trolling motor. Unfortunately, it is a rivet boat. I'd highly recommend going fully welded if you're not planning on replacing all rivets. Pin hole leaks and flex seal galore. Granted, mine is a '54....
