I love this video, I was watching live and @madstech was going on how the teardown was going to later. I fell asleep and woke up to him scraping thermal paste off one of the SOCs 😂😂
Wow what a live stream! On Care Refresh, for the Avata 2 it's only $99 for 2-year coverage, up to 4 replacements, & I believe the fee is only $29 per incident. Also notable that the Avata 2 drone-only is only $489, which is remarkable given the amount of technology within.
Hi Ian. Great livestream! Just wanted to mention that a bit before 00:00GMT DJI released a new FW for the Avata 2. V01.00.0200. In addition I tired the HAM file (I'm here in the US). It worked without even connecting a controller...but I did try both the Motion controller and the RC3 and the file did work on both with all channels available.
I thought i was the only one who smelled my new dji gear! 😂 "Smells Like Money" i once said, btw you desrve a raise for that break down, dji really did it on this one. no axis flying upgrades here lol
As the Avata 2 is quieter, I'm curious to know how much that is down to the prop design. Then the obvious question, will they fit the Avata 1?? There is only a very minor difference in diameter(0.98mm additional radius)
I think you and I have identical shaped heads and eyes as all the issues you've ever had I've had exactly the same . Was going to pass on these but if there is decent backwards compatibility I'll have to buy. Thank you for the stream Ian.
Extraordinary live stream with close to or even over 500 viewers at some moments Longest Mads Tech live stream ever ! C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S and great sponsor choice that really fits.
Cheers Ian. Do we know if the Controller 3 uses the goggles 3 to transmit the signal to the drone? Myself and a few others have lost signal and the drone took off on it's own in a relatively close range. (mine lost signal at an altitude of 16m and 165m away!. I've never had this happen with my A1 flying in the same area using the Goggles v2 and 2, with the Controller 2. Thank you Sir
what I really want to know is, will prescription lenses for the Goggles Integra fit in the goggles 3. Since I don't own the Integras, I can't confirm, but from the pics I have seen, they look exactly the same size as the diopter lenses that came with my Goggles 3. I need lenses for my astigmatism. The Goggles 2 were never comfortable for me, even after trying 3 different aftermarket interfaces. The goggles 3, however, fit great right out of the box.
Enjoyed that 👍 If your gonna pull all those cans of the boards for pictures etc, what about doing one side at a time then you can put that blue compound back on and not get it all over your your desk 😂
teardoawn not complet... how teardown bumper around blade to replace it, I afraid that new politic of dji is to replace model entierly when you have the repear option, many AVATA 2 will finish in Trash
Ian, do you think there’s room for a pro version of this goggle? In other words, a slightly improved rev in a couple months or is this the main release?
Hi you are doing very well. I want to ask a question. Rc motion controller and fpv remote controller transmit signal by itself or via goggles antennas? I thought before goggles antennas only receiver. If it transmits also i dont like lots of transmitter antennas on my head and if fcc mode active, push more power, very annoying.
All DJI goggles transmit. Every set they have have made transmit to the drone. In the past the Remote communicated with the Drone however with the Avata 2 the remote communicate with the goggles and the goggles pass it on to the drone. DJI goggles can transmit upto 33dbm of RF power.
@Mads Tech - are you able to estimate the likely size of the air unit based on the VTX components on the board? E.g. if it looks like it will be roughly bigger/smaller or the same size as teh O3 Air unit?
The new S2 is about 2/3rd the size of the P1. , everything else including the eagle 3 is the same. The Airunit will likely be identical in size and weight. There is no saving here that will have any major impact.
So I'm in the US with FCC mode. You made me very curious when you kept saying JB was using pre-release firmware. I know I'm using the public firmware so I wanted to give it a whirl. I formatted and SD card in the new goggles, I actually found the downloaded file that I got from your video from the goggles to ham file. Copy and pasted on to SD card. Plopped it in the new goggles. Fired everything up and I have three channels in 60 hz, three channels and 40 Hertz, 7 channels in 20 hz. Like you said I have no idea about the output power but this will definitely help when I'm flying with other people. I hope you get it figured out with the CE issue! When I see you that frustrated I'm like oh shit I'm screwed lol😂
Not at this time. DJI is supposed to update everything to n a month to make the Goggles 2 and Controller 2 compatible with the new Avata 2. DJI did the same exact thing when the OG Avata came out so the Goggles would work a month later after they updated everything. They just want to upsell everything to saps like me so we buy the whole thing over again. So I did. 😢
When I had everything activated and turned on and The goggles were connected to my fly app which was logged into my account, I had to update the firmware on all three devices. It failed about four different times at different percentages. One time it got to 97% and freaking failed! It finally made it but was very frustrating. I thought DJI is supposed to be user friendly lmao
Hey Ian. I just received my new Avata 2. I just tested my new Goggles and I have no issues with them regarding the 2 cameras. You may want to contact DJI and get them to send you a new replacement set.
The goggles 3 not having removable antennas is major let down for me personally. I use aftermarket helical antennas on the 2s and they out perform the stock antennas leaps and bounds. It’s almost like they just wanted to make them more nooby friendly and took out the professional features 😢.
I Love those ORT 6 turn helicals. I have the 3 turns as well and the True RC Xairs. I still use the stock antennas most but when flying longer range, those helicals really can't be beaten.
i feel like they only needed to release the avata 2, why make new goggles every year its stupid i rly dont like the battery pack i like to rest my head backwards to ensure i know where im looking at. never had trouble managing the cable that i tucked away around the battery in my fatstrap either and a batteryswap is done in seconds. the inside gasket looks like a nice place for bugs and dirt to hide in, i would visually check every time if there arnt bugs in them XD i guess i keep my v2 another generation longer im stil perfectly fine with the quality of that goggle i just find it weird, the v1 and the v2 were both launched to be paired with just the air units, no avata drones. they were designed pure for the FPV hobby to be build in custom drones but then came the goggle2 with the avata and it just feels like its just designed with only the avata and beginners in mind so when that goggle battery is empty and you plug in a cable. does it charge the empty battery and the goggles use that power? would bekind of weird or wil the power go diretly from your backup powerbank to the goggle? can you remove the batterypack or the whole band and just use ext power like older goggles? the video quality looks rly good though.
Hard pass on this just like I passed on the avata 1. I'll stick with flying my DJI fpv drone and my action 2 on top. I have a feeling this Avata 2 is going to be obsolete in 6 months because they will come out with another version
I've given up with the DJI their NON BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY policies... Will NEVER buy another DJI product. It seems to me that DJI make their sold older products OBSOLETE by making a similar Non Backward Compatible product to Rip Off their Customers on future similar product releases. FDJI
