DJI Mavic 2 - How to Calibrate the Vision System Sensors 

Just had a small crash of my drone during landing and got a small dent around one of the front sensors. I was able to carve out the plastic dent area with an Xacto knife but when I tried to fly again I got a sensor calibration error. I found this video and it was a tremendous help getting the sensors recalibrated. Now it works fine without a trip to the repair shop. You do a great job with your videos, extremely well produced and informative! Thanks from a loyal subscriber and looking forward to your future posts.

For those who have an issue with your monitor, I tried for hours with my Samsung TV monitors, I finally had to go get my older VGA monitor and connect a HDMI adapter to it, then and only then the calibration worked the first time!

Thanks for such a clearly done video. I bought a Mavic 2 Pro that didn't work after a mild crash. Replaced the 2 front arm/motor assemblies and a few other parts and got it to fly. Then the vision system calibration errors came on. Tried to do the calibration on my Mac and didn't work right, calibration window would not come up. Switched it to my Windows laptop and it worked perfectly. Took it up again for a test flight and flies like a new drone! No error messages and hovers perfectly. Thanks again!

I plan on getting a Mavic 2 tomorrow at the Paramus NJ DJI store but I was completely lost when it came to this and had a ton of questions about this for the store staff. Don't need to ask now since you showed how to do it. Great job, Thanks.

I have just done my sensor calibration on my mavic 2 pro after getting an error message for 2 weeks... bit hard to see square in checkered box... got it done.. rebooted the drone and controller... clear phone memory and it cleared the error message... thank you for your tutorial

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. Solved my Mavic 2 Pro problem here where apart from sports mode, it just would not move forward, all other axes were fine. Not sure if quick shot mode or any other features were effected or not, never tried it with it flying broken the way it was. Found nothing similar for this particular model upon doing research but someone did have a thread on the forums about their spark behaving the exact same way and people unanimously suggested there might be a problem with the forward vision sensors. Fairly painless, updating the firmware was a breeze too. The calibration process was easy and fairly intuitive with a constant tutorial graphic running on the left. What a relief, subbed !

Ok I struggled for the first calibration and I didn't even know that this type of calibration existed. Lol gotta wait till tommorow morning and do this reall quick. Thanks for the video man.

Hey I had forgotten all about the screen calibration and was getting an error, I’ve had my Mavic 2 for almost 4 years I think. Just wanted to thank you for making this video!

The Tri-pod trick did it for me! The movement error was DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!

worked fine for me, I did the calibration for my zoom on my 15 inch windows laptop, but I do recommend a larger monitor as I was almost bumping into the screen

DJI software is always such a pain to deal with. They need to get stuff like this figured out better.

Great video, I was having a hard time myself calibrating my Mavic Air. I ended up not doing it but now I think I will give it a try again. I am not getting the error message but want to do it anyway.

For anyone having the issue where the software goes through the process and then hangs at 0% at the end for ages: you need to go to the DJI website and go to the Mavic / Mavic 2 support page and download 'DJI Assistant for Mavic' rather than use the normal application.

Another great and helpful video. Does it not ask to calibrate the top sensor or did I miss something? Thanks for keeping us informed.

Thanks for the great demonstration. The tutorial was helpful. I did have issues with software at first coordinating with drone using Windows 8. Deleted first download, reloaded new copy and paid close attention to sequence of powering and connecting to software. It went well and no calibration error now being reported. I have Pro Platinum.

I couldnt get it to complete at all with a surface pro, tried a bunch of times - tried on wife's Macbook and it worked first time - saved :D

Any solve the "aircraft movement error"? I do exactly as this video suggests. I get the boxes centered but when I'm supposed to follow the smaller boxes around that error appears. I don't move the aircraft at all, I move it as if it is on a tripod. I've even placed the drone on a pillow for added stability...still that error. Any suggestions? Btw -Flypath videos are by far my most favorite resource for drone info...Thanks for all you do!

I gave up after trying several times. I got it to work thru the first one (at 90) then half way thru the bottom sensors, it stuck on the corner square and would never let me move the blue target into the upper right corner. Then it just froze on me. I closed the app and opened it again, then no matter how close I'd get my red lines to line up, it would never give me the blue target again. So frustrating. I turned my drone on and it was no longer showing the calibration error...that doesn't leaving me feeling confident about flying it now. BUT, your video was very helpful. Either it's user error or the software is simply lacking.

Thank you very much for this video! Do you know I spent 8 hrs trying to figure out how to calibrate the sensors on my replacement Mavic Pro! FINALLY LAST night I had to take a break b/c I just never had to recalibrate the sensors so it was my first time. What's crazy is it would not work on my 2015 iMac desktop but yet I was able to successfully calibrate it on new HP Laptop, now does that make any sense? I think before I go fly it on the beaches where I live, probably a good idea on flying it for the first time in a large field by my house, just in case. Let's put it this way if it was not for this video I would have never figured it out! Now, lets go fly my new bird :)

hi , am a big fun and I really learn a lot from you. please I want to calibrate my sensors for Mavic zoom but , after the tutorial 4/4 ,the calibrate now button has taken more than 30mins . I can't proceed to the main calibration. what may be wrong ?

I assume this won’t be needed if we are just about to get the drone or not until we see errors popping up? If so this tutorial will be a big help and I didn’t see any issues if I have to go down that road. Thanks for the instructions on these multiple steps.

Thanks for doing the tutorial - you make this look so easy. I'm using a brand new 15" MacBook Pro with Mavic 2 Zoom and I can't get passed lining up the red over the green squares on the 1st screen. The app just won't register and let me go further. My arms are shaking from holding the drone up for so long. Wow is this frustrating. At this point, I don't think I'll be able to complete the calibration.

Aldryn, I've only got once the warning about calibrating the sensors. But that pro 2 is long gone. I am waiting for my Mavic 2 Pro refresh to be delivered on Tues. As a precaution I was thinking about doing it right out of the box. Do you think that is a waste of time or a good idea. I think in the past I've heard only calibrate the sensors when asked. I don't mind, you make it look cool and fun. LOL. Please let me know as I live, learn and swear by a lot of your channel. Thank you. Tom

When I'm trying to do this on my brand new Mavic Air 2, it's just spins for ever next to the "calibrate now" button that is greyed out and not clickable. Any suggestions, anyone? I'm on mac, on PC, my computer don't even finds my Mavic. I'm using the original cables.

I'm so confused... I'm doing this on a Windows. I to the calibration part and nothing is showing up on the monitor;! I'm so confused how in possibly doing anything wrong. I really have nobody to blame but myself. I haven't used this in a year and I just wanted to shoot the lake camping tomorrow 😭 I have been charging all this crap just to start the update, finished that and now I'm unhappy because this stupid vision sensor won't go away! Going to bed and just won't have a drone tomorrow... Jesus updating mavic is trash /EndRage

really glad I found this BUT be aware its easy to get the wrong software, you must get the mavic version if you are doing a mavic, I tried for ages and it was working just wouldn't upload the calibration..... not intuitive

I just got my mavic zoom yesterday and when i did start it up he did show error on the front sensor. And i downloaded assistance but the wrong one after 3 hours i did give up and long arms (i was close to start vaping again ) , But the funny part was that i almoust manage do it i got to the last stage then he did freeze on one spot when i was moving around the drone to hit the blue spots he did swow up,.But the real problem was the front and back sensor there you needed get them perfect in line when it got blue and hold for a few sec that was not easy but i did manage that in the end omg i was about to send back the drone hehehe, with the correct mavic assitance it just took 5 min :) SO Download the correct Assistance that will save your day for sure hehe

This tutorial was very helpful. But damn, that process is a pain in the kropotkin when you have to do it on a laptop with a relatively small screen. When positioning the drone/sensors at just the right distance from the screen, at just the right angles, the smallest increment of change can throw you way out of alignment. It will be interesting to see the results when I take it out and fly it. Here's hoping.

Here is what I think personally, DJI makes great drones. I purchased a DJI mavic 2 pro a little over 2 years ago. The drone I purhcased, was a DJI AUTHORIZED refurbished drone, it and the smart controller and all accesories were like BRAND NEW. I had a sensor error, that would not correct, no matter what I did, until I very lightly bumped it in to a wall, as I was still learning, and the error went away after that and I never had that issue again. Now I am all of a sudden, getting this calibrate vision system sensor, and have now done it several times, and it fails every time. DJI needs to make an easy plug in to up date and have WAY BETTER customer service as with the mavic 2 pro and a smart remmote that costs $2000, you should get some damn good software updates, and calibrating sensors should not require anyone to be an arospace engineer!

Questions: Do you keep your RC turned on while doing this? and noticed no errors messages but side sensors are not functioning? Same process to fix or is there another way to activate? Thanks for any assistance. Think I found the answer: -------> page 22 in the manual. It cannot sense dynamic objects, moving people, vehicles, trees etc. Only active in active track 2.0 and tripod. They DJI fooled me I t=really thought the sensors would work like the front and rear sensors.

Having problem downloading the apps on my Mac.warning me that It might over write my security system.

I don't see the Red & Green lines on my Mac Book Laptop, so after connecting drone with USB cable, Do I need the Power ON the drone battery ?

The assistant program is showing the drone orientation to be horizontal (normal flight position) and it never shows placing it on its side on the tutorial. When I go to calibrate the sensors, there are two camera boxes that show what the sensors see. With my drone sitting in normal position, the sensor view image is rotated and not in regular upright manner. The. I get a prompt that tells me to rotate the drone to the left but it still shows the drone being horizontal. What should I do here?

my gimbal got fixed but the camera is still not balanced. does it have to do something with sensor calibrations?

Are these sensors strictly for obstacle avoidance? If we are in the field, flying a flight plan in any app (such as Drone Deploy), over an agricultural field at an elevation higher than any trees, in the wide open, is there any need to react to this warning immediately?

Note! When it says calibration successful and restart your drone, it takes you to the calibration screen again, like it needs it again (even though it said successful). Don't re-calibrate, you are done. (it should take you back to the home screen IMHO)

I've asked a similar question to this on other sites but not received an answer. Do you think that the vision calibration has anything to do with the reported lack of precision landing with the new Mavic 2. This is the first site I've seen actually talking about vision calibration but there are several sites reporting on the lack of precision landing compared to the original Mavic pro.

I'm having a problem no one else seems to...when I plug my Mavic 2 into the PC, the DJI assistant sees it as Mavic Pro and NOT Mavic 2 Pro and the calibration doesn't work...any idea why it would be seeing it as an old drone model??

is it possible to mess this up even though it goes through the calibration? Lets say my Hands are not as Steady and I diddnt have my drone centerd and perfect in Terms of distance to the screen either? Any tips?

Hi do you only calibrate when you get a display error? It's just that I don't think the downward sensor is working as I was trying to get it come on as it got close to me, is there a way to just test the downward sensor? Cheers great vid thanks daz

For those experiencing issues not seeing anything on the screen, press exit full screen at the bottom of the wizard, click Do not show tutorial and finalize the tutorial. Also ensure your Mavic is Directly connected, Without the use of a USB hub and keep the controller turned off. Ensure your USB-C cable has enough length and bandwidth to initiate the procedure. You should see the dots on the screen, and at that point you can start 😉 For Mavic 2 (Pro, Zoom, Enterprise) you might get a different version of the Assistant 2, Install that. (this is called for "Consumer Drones Series" or "Professional Drones Series" instead of "For Mavic")

Is there a way how to calibrate gimbal camera lens? I have a problem with a blurry AF on my Mavic 2 Pro.

DJI assist 2 does not work properly on my Mac, or my mates Mac or anyone's Mac that I know of. Can any other Mac uses confirm this ? I'm trying to calibrate the vision sensors for a phantom 4 pro… cheers

I’ve downloaded the dji assistant 2 program, when the program is open, I don’t have any menu down the left hand side to select “calibration”. And it not recognising my drone being plugged in.
