DMC4 - Dante Jump Cancel Tutorial: [Weapon & Style Switching]

I've should have done this a long time ago . . .
Anyway, here it is. A proper Dante JC tutorial including weapon switching and style switching. My DMC4 Dante AC Tutorial seemed to be extremely vague since there was so much stuff to talk about.
But with this tutorial, I'm sure people will learn the basics of Jump Cancelling as well as being able to branch off into different attacks.
Unfortunately the last section had words that scrolled too fast so you may need to pause the video a few times (didn't noticed it until now). Sorry about that.

It might help to switch the style action button to RT/R2. that's how I learned it anyway...

To use backslide while facing the enemy, you need to lock onto the enemy and perform an attack. As soon as you do, input the move for backslide while holding back and letting go of the lock on button in one motion.

Amazing tutorial! A really good way to learn this and all the slowdowns, the steps and reccomendations are a nice touch. This is gonna be so helpful once i get DMC4 SE, for now i'll stick to practice this on PC.. Subscribed!

Beautiful guide! Slow and very precise with tips. Actually the only video that made able comprehend what beasts like the legendary donguri(Dante himself) do in his combo videos and gave me a sense I can do it too. Long rant, but I felt too happy watching this vid.

Not sure if he''s going to answer so I'll do it. You have to switch weapons twice very quickly. When I do weapon switch I press the switch and the attack button at relatively the same time. So after the attack is done it's jump cancel--> weapon switch--> weapon switch + attack. Hope that helps.

Hey, idk if you read these comments still but one thing I think that makes jump cancelling is everyone seems to do tutorials on it in turbo mode, i havent watched all of yours but I do believe that having it at normal speed might make it a little easier to understand. Regardless love your vids, you may be one of the most detailed DMC tutorial guys on the internet lol

I would take the time out to learn this but I play console... And it's tedious to have to try and test these on enemies who do eventually die. So I just play the game and try to self teach myself things. However, this tutorial did still help me realize enemy step is a very useful tool for Dante. I just can't do the many difficult moves with JC

For any new console players out there go to legendary darkknight difficulty and go to mission twelve with dante you will have your fair share of scarecrows to practice on have fun

I'm having so many issues trying to do this, picked up the first two parts of basic jump cancelling pretty well, but once I have to start changing up styles and weaponry, it's like my brains been fried trying to remember to do it xD. Ah well practice makes perfect I guess.

As an average player, I've finished Dmc 4 without relying on methods like these and just playing it normally. Due to the fact that I don't know how to do them of course. This vid makes me want to reinstall Dmc 4 to learn and master how to do combos hahaha. A really helpful vid sir! Liked and subscribed. Also, I just wanted to ask your personal opinion, which is better, using a keyboard PC, or a controller (Xbox 360/Ps3)?

Just keep trying. Play the first couple of levels of Bloody Palace. Launch the Scarecrows into the air and press B A (O X) by sliding your thumbs. This won't guarantee and infinite combo, but doing that enough times will allow you to start seeing where you're attacking too early or too late. The goal is not to rely on the sliding method, but to press the attack and jump buttons at the right times. I recommend watching Chaser's hands video.

yo Chaser, so i bought DmC played it on Nephilim on the go, n finished it in a few hours.if you were planning on NOT getting DmC, you might wunna reThink that.it was fun n existing so its worth buying it. it has a huge surprises at the end tht i wont spoil it yet. so yeah try it out p.s awesome vids as always

is there a proper way to jump cancel and attack then repeat easily? I know the video is old but to this day I still want to get good with Dante ( I know it's silly ^-^ ). I'm having trouble getting the cancel right after the 'swordmaster' aerial rave cancel. Do I have to piano the X and O button to get the jump cancel to work? Ohh I play on the PS4, just letting you know ^-^.

If for what ever reason I wanted to do a lot of this on the Xbox 360 version, is there something different about enemy health and hit boxes or something between the Xbox version and the PC version? I'm just talking about the technical stuff. I know this was the case between vanilla dmc3 and dmc3se. And if there is a technicality difference between the Xbox and PC version, does dmc4 special edition have the PC versions technicality?

with all those inputs does it matter if your locked on to the enemy in some parts of the video you are locked on and some parts your not locked on the enemy im just wondering if it matters if you need to be locked on or not when jump canceling, its a little hard when your holding right bumper and trying to switch weapons

Is there any mod that can be downloaded on console to help me train? I really want to learn how to do jump cancel and at least the basic combos. I guess I will have to wait for dmc5 to come out for the training mode. Lets just hope all this combos and mechanics are still possible in dmc5.

so, I believe JC ing easier to be done in turbo mode since I can slide my thumb from jump to style button, but it is harder to change style and weapon mid combo in turbo mode :p

Dude... I've been trying jump cancelling for like 2 hours... I kinda got the hang of it at the mega scarecrow part but I still can't get it right 70% of the time when I try JC on an enemy in the air. The JC just doesn't activate sometimes... and I'm sure I was close enough to the enemy. In fact... not even Air Hike activates sometimes. Srsly wtf is the problem? What am I not doing right?! It's so damn frustrating D:

y i havnt seen any dmc 4 combo artists use lucifer's abilty to make the blades follow dante arround by holding down the style button .I found u could keep the blades forever near dante. My ps3 is out of reach now to play DMC 4 anymore , so i can only watch others do it :( . Chaser can u showcase combos using lucifer as the primary combo weapon rather than a jump cancel thing, i know it doesnt deal damage on contact but i feel it has the same depth as Nevan even if it lack Nevan damage.

I actually jump a little too high after i enemy step, when i fall, i'm unable to time it again to enemy step, so i just fall to the ground and have to restart. any tips on how to improve my timing?

Yeah I guess I forgot to mention that Dante needs to jump before jump cancelling, but I thought that was self explanatory.

First of all, "born" is the proper verb when in the past tense. Second, Chaser will most likely get the game eventually. I love the game myself, but I have to admit that the combat is not as deep as DMC3 or DMC4. That doesn't mean you can't do advanced combos in the game, UltimeSon has proved that with his videos. I just don't think Chaser is interested in playing it right now. I hope they make a sequel though..
