Tell them what my dad told me. "There's nothing special about celebrities, they were merely in the right place at the right time. There are lots of other equally talented people out there that just weren't in the right place at the right time, and you'll never hear about any of them. So there's no reason to idolize any celebrity, they're just someone that got lucky. Same goes for every wealthy person you'll ever meet or hear about. They very often were not the only person with that idea, they were just the only person in the right place at the right time, with the capital to make their idea a reality"

@Catsheal
@Catsheal Год назад
Even fashion though, it takes away from actual fashion designers credibility and honestly there is a difference between fashion designers who took the time to learn whether through apprenticeships, learned by their aunt/neighbor/mom being a seamstress or by going to school and a celebrity thinking they’re a fashion designer because they collaborated with a designer. Celebrities wouldn’t know the whole design process and what goes into it, how to sew, what designs would work with the different types of fabric, the different pleating and pattern making and draping that’s necessary to know in order to design. They’re still using their celebrity status to be able to override “normal” people who actually have spent time to home the craft. And celebrities doing this and taking over industries other than the art they are known for is pushing out the common man

The sad thing about makeup re: Iman is that models of color today still complain about there not being makeup for them or that the muas don't get their skin and forget about their hair. As for celeb fragrance, at least one of my relatives loved Elizabeth Taylor's fragrances. They were good quality and lasted long (which is what you would expect from Elizabeth Taylor) and a portion of the proceeds did and still does go her AIDS foundation. Cher's fragrance was supposedly good too. Josie Maran is one of QVCs biggest vendors. The sad thing is that compared to her plain argan oil, you can get the same amount of organic argan oil for a quarter of the price of Josie's. JLo and the olive oil... Almost every derm/skin care person who commented gave the side eye because a lot of them say that olive oil left on the skin can lead to TEWL. Carmen Electra uses Albolene so I'm not interested in hearing about her skin care line...

I got into skincare after leaving makeup for the reason you mentioned. It was too much of consumerism and I got too old not to notice that those so called 'influencers' just create needs for more more more more more.... whatever more, just something that costs. Now, when I wear makeup, I don't use half of the products I was believed to 'need' (e.g. contour palette, blush palette, brightening liquids and powders, eyebrow whatever apart from a simple eyebrow gel, setting sprays, lip liners etc. ) and guess what - I am happy! I appreciate simplicity. Nowadays I noticed, that the same thing is happening with skincare and as soon as I realized I downgraded to simple products and basic vitamins. Of course, we can put the blame on celebrities who want to leverage their brand, corporations wanting to capture yet another market, just people trying to cash up on new trends... I used to be mad at some people, but the only thing I can control is myself and if simplicity gives me peace this is what I have to guard regarding all my purchase choices. To some extend I do agree with you, Cassandra, that we need to listen to dermatologists for skincare, makeup artists for makeup, nutritionist for diets, but at the broader spectrum it still seems to be benign, as there are rabbit holes of dermatologists with different advices, MUAs with various tastes and nutritionists with multiple food objections. And, surprisingly, that is ok. The privileges of democracy and consumerism have their downfalls, and the constant misinformation and overflow of information is the problem each of us need to learn how to deal with. For that reason, I am reluctant to share my opinions on such topics as by doing that I am only adding up to confusion and informational chaos. I tend to get myself in such rabbit holes and every time this happens, whether is concerns purchasing, learning, life choices etc., I try to take a step back and evaluate what is the most important for me, and then compare and contrast it with the opinion of others. As you mentioned in previous videos, some people might be ok with just a bar of soap and a simple moisturizer, some people are having extensive skincare routines. At the end of the day it is our choice so consecutively, the blame for confusion, agitation, exasperation can only be put on us as it depends on us how to manage it. Sorry for my English, its my 2nd language. Hope my thoughts will come across.

I will say, for some, skincare is not there to treat a ‘problem’, it’s there simply for self care, to have some time for themselves every morning and night- and whilst lots of people it’s both, but I think celebrity lines are there to give people the luxury experience that they want, not extreme results

Ok this is a very well structured and thoroughly researched video and I'm here for it! LOVE IT. Also, if I may, I think the sunscreen debacle concerning Honest Beauty had less media coverage simply because the problem concerning k Beauty sunscreen is more widespread and involves some cult favourite products and honest beauty's spf wasn't nearly as famous or loved

Pretty sure the sunscreen things is because the Purito sunscreen was a cult favorite and quickly taking over the world. Barely anyone had every heard of/used the Honest beauty sunscreen.

The only celebrity product I have EVER bought is Ariana Grande's award winning perfume Cloud which I only found out that had won an award recently which I agree with as it smells really good. As far as perfume goes it's standard meets the highest in the industry and it also reasonably priced unlike what most celebrities do which is markup their products at skyhigh prices. I am not even a perfume person so this is the only perfume I wear occasionally! I got it only because of the smell though not because I am fan of Ariana or anything.

I was surprised you didn't talk about Desi Perkins skin line it just came out. I thinks its more on the expensive side and I was bummed. She's a RU-vidr. I love Arianas Cloud perfume it's my favorite, I just wish the smell lasted longer than 15 min on me, I find myself having to reapply it so much that I'm halfway through my $63 bottle in 2 weeks 😭. And I haven't purchased any celebrity skin. And don't plan on it, I'll stick to my CeraVe, Elf, and Ordinary products. ❤️

The only celebrity related product that I ever had was this perfume by Kylie Minogue called Darling. It was my favourite perfume at that time. When it comes to skincare, I will always stick with brands that have a history, do proper research, not with brands who sell an image. Besides that, it seems that they only make products for normal skin types 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree that skincare is so personal. I did so much research to put together a skincare routine for myself. It took consistent use over months before the results were visible. Its been 6 years and I still constant use this routine with minor changes based n body changes and environmental or seasonal changes. I got my information from sources by doctors chemists, biologists and medical publications. Researching products and modalities took a lot and is always ongoing. I had to . Trying a product or modality for a couple weeks isn't going to do anything because skincare takes time. I am so happy that you make content thats educating people and that you tell the truth. Thank you for that
