Chelsea boots are all the rage right now, and for good reason: they're just really cool. But does that mean they're right for you? Here are The Modest Man, we focus on shorter men, so I want to answer the question, "Should short men wear Chelsea boots?"
But first off, what are Chelsea boots? They're close-fitting, ankle high boots with an elastic panel (instead of laces). They often have a nylon or canvas pull tab that helps you pull the boot onto your foot. Chelsea boots actually date back to the Victorian era and have been worn by both men and women, which makes them a unisex style shoe.
Chelsea boots are great for a few reasons:
1. They're really easy slip on and off (perfect for airports)
2. They make you 1.25" to 1.5" taller (without having to wear elevator shoes)
3. They can be dressed up or down (casual or formal)
4. They set you apart because most guys don't have a pair (even thought they're popular right now)
I think Chelsea boots are a great choice for shorter men. If you're wearing lighter color suede boots, they tend to be more casual. For example, I like to wear them with lighter wash jeans, a white button up shirt, a nylon windbreaker and some of my favorite accessories.

I’ve worn Chelsea Boots for years even when they were not that fashionable. My favourite pair at the moment is by Geox made in Italy in light tan with rubber sole.

Actually invented by Queen Victoria's Shoemaker in 1851, Joseph Sparkes-Hall who had his workshop in Chelsea, London. They were actually designed for women first but adapted for men too shortly afterwards. Really enjoy your style advice, I am a devotee of the Chelsea boot and British to boot (pardon the pun!).

Ive been a boot guy off and on over the years,but recently discovered Thursday Boots.Now they're all I wear.Currently own three,black captain,tobacco president,and just got black matte captains.The only drawback,as I have wide feet,is the limited selection in wide widths.I'm an older guy,so I will probably wear them the rest of my life!Great boots,and super price!

+Thitiphong Johnson your heel shouldn't slip around. You could size down, wear thicker socks, or try inserting a stick-in heel insert (cheap on Amazon).

I love the way Chelsea boots look too. Definitely a go to boot rather it's out in the city or traveling the world. But I don't think all Chelsea boots give you a boost in height. I'm 34 a strong 5'7" "but i'll say 5'8" because there's not much of a difference" bought the Frye Seth Chelsea boot and when I put it on it only adds a inch to my height like most sneakers footwear I'm just saying. Anyways still a all around stylish boot.

I bought suede honey Chukka's from Thursday boots. I had brown Desert boots and a black cap toe dress boot before. I got a factory job and used my desert boots there and now they are too ratty to be worn with a nice outfit. I then bought honey Chukka's and they are perfect for me. My personal style is smart casual and this shoe perfectly fit the bill. Different enough to not be mistaken for my old chukkas but just right to be a classy yet casual boot. Now with the factory job I wasn't able to wear them everyday, but they are perfect for all casual occasions. I now have work boots, casual boots, and dress boots. A good setup.

To be fair, only TBC has that thick heel on their Chelseas. Other popular Chelseas such as CP’s have a much thinner sole.

But, what brand you think is a good option in USA for short guys, but for really short guys, because I think guys are 5'5" have more options, but the guys are less of 5'5" don't have a lot of options.

José Suárez to be honest I'm 5'1" and I just shop at Target and Old Navy, they aren't super high quality but are cheap, and usually fit pretty well if you shrink them in the wash I wear a men's extra small- small in shirts if that helps at all. Im 15 and do go through clothes pretty quickly so old Navy specifically may not be the best choice if you want good quality, they feel nice but fall apart quickly.

I wouldn't wear boots barefoot, but some shoes are designed for bare feet (boat shoes, for example). Most low cut shoes with 100% leather insoles can be worn without socks, and they won't smell. Shoes with cloth interiors, though...definitely going to want to wear no show socks.

I wear 7 or 7.5 depending on the brand. So with TBC I ordered 7, and they fit great. For reference, I wear 7 in Allen Edmonds and 7.5 in Cole Haan.

Because hes doing all the right things for a short guy: He is thin and he is wearing slim pants (which emphasizes vertical shape) paired with a looser fitting top that balances his look. But then he emphasizes his large extremities for lack of a better way to say it ie big hair-style, fitted wrists to make his hands look bigger, and big boots to make feet look bigger. This combo is the ultimate "natural" way to look taller.

(This comment isn't necessarily directed at Modest Man) I think it's easy to like most shoes you put on, especially if they are sponsoring you. However, I think with all these new brands, what is really problematic is that they aren't time tested. This isn't to say that because a brand has been around for a while, they are better. What I meant to say is that if you own a pair of shoes for under a few years, I can't take your advice seriously. Recommend a pair of boots or shoes after you've owned them for a few years. I see many people on youtube and elsewhere recommending all these new/newish brands and shoes they've owned for less than a few months. Then, they rarely follow-up years later. Maybe part of this is because people don't expect a 200 dollar boot or shoe to last too long. However, if this is the case, this is part of the consumer culture problem. Wait, save, and "invest" in a pair of shoes/boots that will last you. It IS possible to be "fashionable" and "smart," at the same time :P

+Anthony M fair enough, but every brand is new at one point. There was a time when "Alden" and even "Rolex" meant nothing to anyone. TBC has been around for about 3 years, and I haven't heard anyone complain about durability. Of course, we'll see how they hold up after 5, 10 years. Considering their construction methods, I'm optimistic.

it actually makes you a lot shorter because they are boots it looks like a part of your leg is chopped off which makes you look shorter

The Modest Man cause all high top shoes so also boots take a part away where your legs belong so it makes you look A LOT shorter than you actually are

I understand what you mean IF your pants don't go over your shoes. But with boots, your pants pretty much always go over the boot, ending where they normally would. So it doesn't really change how your leg looks.

The Modest Man there is this guy in my class he is only a little taller than me when he weares chelsea boots he rocks them but when I have them on it looks weird But I think I just need better jeans I usually wear slim or slightly skinny

Honestly, it took me a while to get comfortable wearing Chelseas, but now they're like socks haha. Just make sure your jeans are hemmed to the right length so they don't stack too much, and make sure they're slim and tapered so they fit over the boot, but they don't look too wide at the ankle. Most importantly, just wear 'em until you get used to them!
