The Modest Man Hey Brock, Daniel Radcliffe has a round face. However he can get away with round glasses because of his features. I have a round face, but a good amount of body fat. I have round glasses. My features haven't come in yet probably because of my body fat. Should I keep the round ones? Or should I get something else? Thanks!!
I've never seen a video on proper fit when buying shoes. Shoe stores hire warm bodies to fill the position, and are often young people who haven't owned shoes long enough to know anything. Your attention to detail and knowledge, like - "any leather shoe will stretch out a bit as you break them in"... as part of the video, would make it valuable to me. (Many of us put on a shoe, pinch the toe with our fingers, lie our mother did when we were kids, is how we will buy shoes until we're 80, unless/until we learn a better way)
My first pair of high quality dress shoes were my black Allen Edmonds Park Avenues that I got completely recrafted and after I used my Saphir shoe products, they look amazing! Highly recommended. :)
My own minimalistic shoes collection: black monk straps, cognac brogues, navy suede chukka boots, a pair of casual leather sneakers, dress boots for cold weather, driving moccasins (in navy or brown) for summer. Then maybe add in some hiking shoes, flip flops, etc
My casual shoes are driving shoes, canvas sneakers, suede derbies, and new balances for now. I also want a pair of Chelsea boots too. My lifestyle doesn't really call for dressier items as of yet but I would definitely invest in a pair of dark brown wingtips to cover all my grounds and try strap monks, and dress boots after expanding my style later on.
I also have passion for collecting shoes, (some of which i've never worn) consisting of 2, leather sole office moccasion shoes, a pair of stacey adams black & white gangster shoes, 3 trainers, a pair of rugged boots for the winter and 8 pairs of casual shoes. Hopefully this week i also intend to purchase a pair of blue brogues, brown brogues (both suede) as part of my country attire and a pair of patent black dress shoes which are a must for evenning event occasions
I just subscribed to your channel and have only watched a handful of your productions. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. You provide informative content and I enjoy your presentation style. This video is no exception. One minor thought though. I am a bit surprised to see that none of the shoes in the video have shoe trees, which I am told that it is absolute ‘must’ to maintain the form of the shoe. Just an observation and thought. Getting back to this video; thanks for sharing the info, nice collection and great presentation.
It would be great if you could set up a playlist or create a series with essential videos for those getting into men's wear - almost like a step by step guide on the transition to men's wear. Big fan of the channel!
My shoes:1. Chestnut brogues by Meermin2. Dark brown lace up boots by Johnston & Murphy3. Black loafers by Rockport4. White canvas sneakers by Superga5. Burgundy suede sneakers by Vans6. Leather sandals by Outland7. Espadrilles by Lee Cooper
pretty decent. Not bad for a 19 usd a pair! I heard Soludos and Manebi are popular brand for espadrilles. Toms is popular too, but IMO i dont like the obvious logo on their shoes. Goodluck having a pair and you wont regret it!
Buy a pair of Tods, they are amazing. And I can't recommend RM Williams boots enough. Dressy for work, most drs here where them. But can be worn with jeans. Best shoes I've ever owned. Won't wear out and if they do, send them back and the will repair anything. Australia hand made, and can even get kangaroo leather!
Lol just got my very first pair of dress shoes in the mail today: a pair of Cole Haan loafers. I'm a size 7.5 typically, but their website told me a 7.5 would be too big and that I should go with a 7 and BOY ARE THOSE SHOES TIGHT. Currently have them in the freezer with bags of water in them in attempts to stretch them out. It took me 15 to ease the left one on because it was too tight to even side my foot into it. Lets pray it works because Im too poor to return them and get new ones.
Liked the video, what particularly grabbed my attention is that you commented that Cole Hann's build quality usually is not that good. Could you do a video on moderately priced shoe brands that have better build quality that you would recommend?
Have those exact pair of Birkenstocks, and, yea, they rock. I enjoy their masculine look, and they're sturdy; great for hiking and the beach. great video
I found a two pairs of brunello cucinelli dark brown shoes! size 11.5 over at goodwill boutique! For 30 dollars each! Fits me perfect! It was barely worn..
Great vid! You should keep a shoe tree on all your dress shoes to minimize creases. They're a dollar in ikea for those plastic ones that are still better than nothing
Sorels are the brand for stay home moms in midleclas suburb in Stockholm, in scandinavia 🤓, so they are probably warm and nice. A lot of hanging around in the park with a coffe. Good video!
Hey man I really like your style, and videos. I am going for a minimalist look myself, and wanted to know what you think about other brands like Allsaints.
How do you feel about brown ankle books(like the ones in your collection) paired with jeans and button down shirt for summer? or should they be left for fall/winter?
Great shoe collection, didn't like how much leather you wear but the styles are cool. Might have to pick some of these up in other material variants :D
So, what is the level of Cole Haan in reality? Can it compete with Italian premium brends? Or can it compete with more expensive American names, like Alled Edmonds, or even Tom Ford? Men's loafers and oxfords is mainly what I mean
Thanks for showing off this collection! It helped with some ideas. I was wondering about your opinion on cap toe dress boots vs non cap toe like your brown President pair from Thursday. Do you think that the stitching on the Captain (cap-toe) style they offer is a bit too overwhelming and not needed for a dress boot? You, Alpha, and Antonio from Real Men Real Style all prefer the President and it must be for some good reason. I'm deciding between the two right now and have a minor case of OCD.
I would throw away the boat shoes and definitely the chunky sandals, and what about monkstraps? Other than that, a very good guy, and a very good video. Thanks!
Doc Morales been thinking about getting a pair. Although I view them like Chelsea boots: cool, trendy, but not essential. In other words, nice to have.
Hello! I love your channel content, not sure why I have only discovered the channel now. The walnut/cognac colour captoe like the AE pair you have there always look amazing, it looks like the dream shoe to have but as you said, they are less versatile compared to dark brown shoes. I do own some dark brown ones and Im really thinking of saving up for an Allen Edmonds cognac or walnut captoe but I'd like to hear your opinion on their versatility, what outfit/pants/colours they go well with and would i get alot of wear out of it
+Zhe Wei Khor I'd go dark brown first, then burgundy, then walnut - in terms of versatility. The walnut looks good with light and medium blues, all greens, light greys.
Personally I only ever want and own 3 pairs, a boot (biker style) a church/dress(chelsea boot)shoe and a sneaker...I mostly wear black and gray and i consider myself a minimalist in many aspects,
That is quite an impressive collection. But how is it for people who identify as a minimalist? I only have two Adidas shoes, one timberland, and one dress shoes. Less is more?
I noticed you saying that your gray vans are just as if not more versatile than white sneakers . I'm in the market for a sneaker for spring/summer but am torn between white or grey. I think a lot of guys are not totally comfortable with all white sneakers, much like myself. I've found them to be very loud even with low contrast outfits. I was hoping you could talk/show how to wear grey sneakers both casual & smart causal. greatly appreciated.
happy to hear your opinion on ace marks. the gentlemens gazette has a deal with them but i want to be sure hes not just getting payed to promote them. they sound good, but time will tell so olease do an update once you break them is brother.
I’ve enjoyed the shoes since this video. I don’t wear them too often but they’ve worn in nicely so far. Raphael doesn’t promote anything he doesn’t believe in 100%, so you can trust his opinion, even if the video is sponsored.
what size do you wear onitsuka tiger 7 or 7.5?. because im wearing that shoes in 7 are too tight width and 7.5 looks little bit longer. which one do you prefer
hey Brock do you know what size Allen Edmonds shoe trees you got? I have a size 7 AE too and I got the size small she tree but they look like they are just stretching out the shoe in a bad way and not fixing the shape
I hate the winter boots style; I can't, for the life of me, figure out why people find them aesthetically please. But, that's just me. Cool video and love the suede chukkas!
Ruben Avila If it is a lot of snow and it becomes 5+ you need something like a duckshoe. Especialy if it is in a country where you hava a bit of convex roads. Or when it is 20 minus.
Hope I could get a second opinion on this but over here in Malaysia, everyone seems to be wearing sneakers or walking/running shoes for casual wear. Are these leather shoes worth investing in or will I just look out of place? I only see leather shoes worn by office workers and they're mostly black instead of brown. I really like brown leather shoes/boots 'cause of the masculine image they have but I don't wanna be that one weird guy. :/
It's funny how in any video regarding minimalism, half the comments are from people who don't understand minimalism complaining that something isn't minimalist.
What do you mean by the MacAlister boots are unisex? I don't see it on the J.Crew website and the smallest size is 7. I wear smaller than that so I was disappointed when I went to their site.
DeeKayLee I misspoke. Meant to say that about the canvas Vans for J. Crew sneakers. They're available down to size 4. The Macalisters only go down to 7.
I agree with Jay, 12 pairs of shoes isn't minimalist in any way (and he says he has more than 12). I'd bet 99% of men have less than 12 pairs of shoes. Saying this is minimalist is like saying a 400 pound dude is skinny. There are no hard and fast rules for the definition of "skinny", but you can't claim to be on the opposite end of the spectrum when you're morbidly obese.
Tearyatobitz I agree with you, minimalism is about not having excess, if you happen to have 20 shoes and all of them have a purpose that's minimalist. I don't think someone can decide for anther what minimalism is. it's all peoples opinions being disguised as rules.
in that case you at least need to qualify it. Like "I'm pretty skinny for a sumo wrestler", not just "I'm skinny" when you're bigger than an NFL linebacker.
12 pairs and no chelsea boots or monkstraps? something is wrong here :) jk great collection. Thinking about getting the shoepassion wingtips. I have the advantage that I can check them out in the store here in munich :)
Gary Martin it's not about being a sheep. Chelsea boots can look amazing if worn right. Allen Edmonds has a pair of dark brown suede Chelsea boots that look fantastic.
Hello Brock,You thought of investing your money wisely on English shoes, such as Crockett & Jones, Churches, Lobbs, Cheney, loakes or Barker??Thought I'd give you this good information free of charge!
I believe it’s from Container Store, but it was at the house when I got there (I didn’t buy it) so not sure. It’s meant to be a closet system for a room that doesn’t have an actual closet.
Hey Brock, from a small man to another small man, my shoe size is 7.5 and have fallen in love with a shoe company called Aureus. I currently own 4 pairs of them and wear them everywhere. The ones I own are: Clasico, Insignia, Patron, and Attica. Check them out if you ever get the chance.
I'm kinda hesitant, if I wear too small it might look I'm women's shoes, if I wear too large it might look I'm wearing clown shoes. Hope you can help me with this. Thanks for the previous replies though.
Nope they’re 7. You have to wear what’s comfy. Can’t sacrifice comfort for looks when it comes to shoes. Go with the size that works best for you. I promise, no one notices the size besides you!
Thanks! I'm a size 7 dress shoe size as well, but these Thursday boots just look waayyy out of proportion with such thick soles. That's the problem with most companies when they size down their products - they don't look at the overall proportions of the product; they just size down along one dimension - which is usually the length... I would've liked a thinner/slimmer/sleeker sole. This one looks too 'chunky'. Thanks for the response anyway! Cheers!
hi, i'm currently in uni and i'm looking for a pair of boots, i already own a pair of black 'formal' dress shoe, what would you recommend me. Tired of sneakers and i stay in a place with warm climate all year round. Thanks!
You're a youtuber that teachs about fashion and it would have good that you have cleaned and polished your shoes before show them to the world. But nice minimalist collection. Cheers!
Nice! Question: Have you ever polished your boat shoes? I have a Sperry Topsider in brown, and I've seen the same shoe being worn till it lacked shine. Not pretty tbh.
