I work at an upscale retail store in the men's department. I see a lot of Rolex on wrists everyday, 75% of the Rolex I see are Submariner's. One day a man came in, I looked at his wrist and said "oh my gosh I love that watch, what is it?" He told me it's the Tudor Pelagos Titanium. I loved the gunmetal looking bracelet , the matte finish and the way it looked on his wrist. I actually wrote down the information on the spot so I could look it up when I got home. This watch is beautiful. Every dude has a Sub. The Pelagos is unique and wonderful.
@@jaysikes4256 I will say many of the Subs are very different, a lot of variety, they are all great looking. Very ubiquitous at my work and in my area near Orlando, I find myself day after day saying "nice Subby." I see too many ever to consider getting one. Now the GMT Master 2 Batman, that is another story. I want one!
3 years of owning Pelagos 25600tn i gotta say its the best daily wearer. Almost full titanium, ceramic bracelet bearings, spring adjustment clasp. I been swiming and free diving with it since the day i had it and it holds perfect time. Never seen a Rolex owner deeper than 1 meeter of pool constatly looking on the dial just in case anything happens 😁 Dont forget to rinse your diver folks!
Make good points for not buying Rolex. I find the brand a bit of a turn off. Too many instagram watch shots over Lamborghini steering wheels for me. This is a quality tool watch more than a status symbol.
I've owned a few Submariner but they're becoming way to common. Seems like everyone has one now, even people that know nothing about watches. I agree with the pelagos purchase. Enjoy!
Very well articulated Jay. I feel similar on all points--the sub ceased being a tool diver decades ago. Wear what you like, but especially now because the Pelly has an in house movement, essentially Rolex made, it really cannot be beat as one of the best value props out there. I've got my sights on the LHD.
Lol, good for you! One should buy a watch that fits them (personality) and appeals/satisfies them. I buy watches to enjoy them, I don’t worry about resale.
interesting video. I too went to my AD to originally buy a black sub which I had been on a wait list for a few months. They called me and said the sub had arrived so went to the AD. Saw the pelagos for the first time and absolutely fell in love with it and bought over the submariner! Same as you was fully intending to spend 8k for a watch but the technology in the pelagos for basically half the price was too much for me to pass up. Cheers brother.
I love it. Buy a watch that speaks to you, and sometimes you only know until you try it on. Great to hear you picked up a watch that really suits you. Congrats.
I agree, get and hold onto whatever checks the most boxes for you. I was on a waitlist for a Batman and after so long purchased a blue Pelagos and wore it every day, never taking it off. Well one day I get a call from the AD telling me my Batman (jubilee) had arrived and wanted to know if I still wanted to purchase it. Of course I did, I've wanted that watch for years. I take it home and much to my surprise, it just didn't excite me. Now don't get me wrong, it is a stunningly handsome watch but.....I've come to prefer the simplicity, movement and rugged looks of the Pelagos. Sold the Batman in a day which was considerably over what I paid and more than enough to reimburse me for the cost of the Pelagos. It's all about what brings you the most joy in ownership.
Well said. You really need to try on a piece to truly appreciate it or not. I think that's just another problem with wait lists, you don't if you'll like the watch until it arrives, you don't know how it wears, etc.
Not sure why anyone would want to leave a racist or aggressive comment. I'm lucky enough to own both of the watches as shown. The Submariner is a very classy watch that can be worn in any situation but that I reserve for special occasions. It's also increased in value considerably since I bought it. The Pelagos is a superb everyday watch and the blue is stunning. The titanium means that while it's slightly larger than the Submariner, it's also slightly lighter and very easy and comfortable to wear. The fact that titanium is also hypoallergenic helps with everyday wear.
But as of late the trend curve for Tudor wristwatches, has actually been much stronger so maybe he should have chose the Rolex anyway. The trend curve of the 15 best selling Tudor wristwatches are all pointing up strong. Only 2 of the 15 best selling Rolex wristwatches have an up going trend curve. The most of rest are actually going down right now.
Totally agree with all that you said. Going to keep it in the realm of Rolexes.I have the Rolex Submariner Maxi case two-tone better known as the Bluesy. Also the new black on black Rolex Submariner. I am seriously considering purchasing a Tudor blue Pelagos for the same reason. People that are hating to that degree are not horologist or appreciate the workmanship purpose of these watches. It seems that you do. Good for you.
Thank you. I enjoy both Tudor and Rolex. Both great watches in their own right. I'm warming up to the latest sub. It brings better bracelet with better proportions, for me anyway. cheers.
You made a great choice as you got what you wanted and had extra money for vacation! I would go the other way around as I just love the Sub despite the stigma of owning a Rolex. I used to be one of them... I used to think Rolex was old & dated. I guess I got old(er) as now, I like many (not all) Rolex models. I also like some Omega, Tudor, and JLC pieces. I stay away from the Pateks, APs, and the ALSs as I can not afford them 😁 Wear your Pelagos in good health. Definitely a keeper!
Thanks for that. The longer I have the Pelagos, the more I like it. I'm beginning to warm up more to Rolex. You're right, as a collector, your taste can change, and that's great it means you're more refined.
I like this watch! They should be refreshing it soon right? how do you like the blue over the black even after all this time? How is the titanium holding up?
I prefer the blue because the colour is unique kind of blue, and has more pop. Too many dive watches are black. The titanium has held up well, I literally wore this watch diving, surfing, kayaking, etc. Of course any material can have scratches, but the titanium looks great.
I wanted a nice watch. @ 6 months ago I purchased the tudor pelagos . great color, great watch. a month after I received a call from an AD I had met. he offered me a sub/ date . yes I purchased that - my first rolex. I now have two nice watches. the pelagos is my every day watch. im trying to locate a rolex (batman) to buy. that would do it for me. I have no intention on flipping - . enjoy - thank you ~. JDS/CT
I met another guy this week with a Submariner, he saw my Pelagos and asked if it's a Rolex, so we had a brief chat about our watches. Nice guy, but yet ANOTHER sub owner, LOL.
I bought the Pelagos yesterday for the same reason. You dont see it too often. It's something special. And I think the Pelagos has the more modern design compared to the submariner. Good choice :--)
What a great story. Glad you got the watch. I've never seen another Pelagos out in the wild, but I've seen countless subs. Pelagos is unique in that it pays homage to a previous Tudor model, yet is designed from the ground up as a stand alone model. Best dive watch out there in the category.
honest review! i like that! i have a question, because i consider buying the pelago some time next year. how is the wear and tear on the pelago? does it still keep good time? any noticeable problems all in all?
Hello, It holds up quite well. The biggest scratch magnet is the stainless steel clasp (but that's any watch). it ran great for several months, then lost time. I took it to RSC and they fixed it right up (still under warranty). If you are buying new, you're covered. If buying pre-owned, make sure to get the warranty card and make sure there is time left. If you have a warrant card, and you're not a prick, you can go to RSC and they should honour the warranty even if you're not the original owner. It's their discretion, so politeness goes a long way. I've seen them honour and not, based on the person's attitude.
thank you for your answer! i read about the scratch magnet/clasp. but thats not a problem for me. and yeah, as with all mechanical watches, they need to be serviced once in a while. in austria, we have basically just three official sellers. all of them are in the capital. if i buy the pelagos, i would have to come to the capital to let it be serviced. i own a nomos, which i bought eight years ago from a smaller seller in my hometown. they check the watch once a year every year for free! this is incredible service. and this might be the only dealbreaker for me, if the official seller from the pelagos does expect a lof of money from me just for adjusting time and checking for issues. i might visit all sellers and ask for their service (cost) after the end of the official warranty time. and hey! as for me, i am choosing between the pelagos and the nomos club neomatic atlantic. so as an andult, we can choose between any two watches we want! btw. you are a very friendly youtuber! i like that!
It depends which country you're in, but for a basic service for Tudor Pelagos in USA is $300 at Rolex Service Center. NOMOS makes great watches, let us know which one you choose!
These are exactly the reason I decided not to buy a Rolex too! Seems like the brand is marketing themselves out of a growing portion of the clientele..
You made a good choice. I do own a Submariner but it doesn't get nearly as much wrist time as my Omega Planet Ocean. I see dozens of Rolex's out there every day and they just get boring. This Tudor looks great and I am seriously thinking of getting one. I'm thinking of selling my Sub and getting a Sub LV otherwise known as the Hulk.
Yes, I can see that. The green sub is much less common. If it was just a bit darker, I would like that green, but I understand it's more in line with the Rolex green colour. If I see someone wearing a Hulk, I think this guy doesn't follow the herd like sheep. Omega PO makes a great watch. I would argue more versatile than the Sub, yet still tough enough to take on a dive holiday.
It's your taste and everyone should respect that. I like a lot the Hulk but I am not winning so much as you 😋. I will wait a little bitt and probably I'll buy it later. Pelagos is great and it's much more sporty then a Submariner. Titanium grade 2 and 5 are awesome and is considered an exotic metal for watches. For the value.. hmm.. I don't think that the Submariner makes double comparing the two watches. You did a good choice because the price of the Pelagos is going up day by day. The movement is awesome too. So enjoy your time piece and let the others talk because in the end the watch is on your hand not theirs. Great video. Cheers.
Yes sir, good point. It's the person wearing it who matters the most. We can all share opinions, and it's fun, but it's your money to spend on what you like.
Jay, I completely agree with your arguments. I don't know the reason why you decided to make the video in the first place. But now that it started a debate, I think your reasonings are perfectly understandable. I think the same way. Pelagos is a great watch. When I first saw it online, i thought it would be big for me. But recently, in a boutique in Frankfurt, i tried it on, it fit quite well. Didn't look too big at all. The color is nice, titanium is lighter and looking understated. I have the Submariner. In black. I am also a bit disappointed that it is maybe too common. It's a beautiful watch. And you are right, it's very versatile. But I my attention is turned toward the Tudor as a brand this year. I like the Black Bay and the Pelagos. Suddenly. I think it's outgrowing the "want a Rolex but can't afford one" image. It is a good watch in itself, regardless of the price. Around $4000 is not a cheap watch. I have watches much more expensive than both of these, but you know well, that it doesn't make $4000 a cheap watch. I am also similar to you in that I never cared about the resale value. You always lose anyway. I just don't sell. We are not dealers or stores, we can't sell well. We are regular people. So to me, as I said, your words are easy to understand, I agree. Both great watches and you made some good points for prospective buyers to think about. I am considering now the Blue Submariner to get the Color that I like, but I a Pelagos may very well suffice. The blue Submariner, I tried one on in Dubai, is really cool. Understated. Cost more than 3 times than the steel one, but still, it can worth that for those who get it. That way the prestige is also covered. The color. The uncommonness. It's not an easy choice, have to think it over well.
Thank you for that. Yes, we were in this gondola lift and I've never seen so many Rolex watches out in the wild in such a small area before. People were looking at the mountains and view, I was looking at the watches,LOL.
Thanks for posting this video. I already have a GMT Master II Batman, but I was comparing the Pelagos to the Black Bay 41mm Red. As much as I want to love the Black Bay, it's way too thick. I did like the Pelagos. It's so lightweight, and I like the 500M water resistance. The Rolex is a nice watch, but I do love the Tudor Snow Flake Hands. I'm contemplating whether to go Blue or Black. But, anyways, thanks again for the video.
Question to everyone, if today you know that you will lose half the value of your Rolex comes resale would you still buy it at that same price and even over retail .
If we are really honest, majority of Pelagos owners are not going to use this gorgeous time piece as a diving tool. I feel Seiko divers given their price and reliability are more likely to be used for their designed purpose.
Great point. Most dive watches never sea anything more than splashes from washing hands, LOL. I know a professional diver who doesn't even own a "dive watch", he uses dive computer in water, and has G shock for every day use.
Love the Pelagos, it's like my tool watch....mind you I have 3 gold Rolexes and a watch enthusiast at that....rolex now coming out with a 70hr power reserve....Tudor, the Sea Dweller killer?
I am glad you chose this watch because it felt rite for you 👍 this watch has had my eye for a time now I recently purchased an Oris aquise and feel this would be a great addition to what I hope is the start of a small collection 😊 thank you for the good video and keep it 👍
When I was early into watches, I felt I needed to buy what everyone else was, and what was most popular because that was a safe move. As my taste has refined, I'm learning to trust my instincts more. I'm still learning, but I'd like to think I'm a better watch collector now than I was a couple of years ago, and that has nothing to do with the number of watches, or the amount of money spent. Thanks for the comment. Great to hear you are enjoying your ORIS.
When I was shopping my Pelegos in my head I was comparing it to the Sea Dweller not the Sub. The Sub I away compare to the Seamaster 300m Pro. But in fact the Pelegos is kind of it's own animal. A complete tool/diver.
I'm acutally warming to a pre-ceramic no-date sub. Tastes change, and I'm beginning to like the watch more for the clean symmetry. Pelagos is a great watch. I've had mine for years now, it runs great still.
Jay, Ur voice and delivery sounds a lot like comedian Mitch Hedberg's. Sadly, he passed. Cool video. I always liked the Pelagos but then it kind of cooled off for the past year or so and went to the back of my mind. All of a sudden, I'm in love and it is jumping to my top or second top choice for a new watch I might treat myself to some time in the next few months. Blue it would be. I saw one in the wild and itvhas true wrist presence in a unique package. It looks truly like its own thing. 3500 new on the grey market or 3k for a lightly worn one from private seller= fantasy value. And, although I don't personally really by watches for Investments is always nice to know that you could probably wear this watch for a couple years sell it for what you paid for it. I think that this watch will actually hold solid or go up maybe 10 or 15% five years from now.
Pelagos blue hearkens back to French Navy watch that Tudor made. Pelagos has the best bracelet and clasp out there, even better than Rolex. Can't go wrong with Pelagos.
For me Rolex is too expensive for what it is(to me anyway- they sell loads so they’re not too expensive for the millions who buy them!) and they are also really common(again common because they’re good and well made) but both these factors would stop me buying a Rolex. I love the blue Pelagos but equally there’s a part of me that wonders if I’ll always feel like it’s a “make do Rolex”- but I love the looks and especially the blue... I’m genuinely on the fence. I own a Seiko Marinemaster and love that so why is feel a Tudor is a cheap Rolex when I wear a Seiko is silly but it’s the only thing stopping me getting a Pelagos. How’s it wear in terms of scratches? Thanks for the video 👍🏽
@@jaysikes4256 you've had the watch a lot longer than me. I'm worried titanium won't hold up over time compared to Steel. How does it handle the scratches and what are the polishing options like?
@@aussieexpat The claps is stainless, and it showed scratches earlier than the titanium. Plus the titanium is darker so it hides scratches better. Overall, I've had it for several years and it's been on numerous adventures. It has scratches, but I wouldn't say it's too beat up looking. I'll try to make a vid showing. I don't think I would polish it, I'll keep it as my devil-may-care watch, LOL.
Wow, I just realised it's going to be 4 years with Tudor Pelagos... still running strong, still love it. Still don't regret not buying the sub. Thanks for the comment!
Not all that sure that you made any valid points other than you preferred one over the other and don’t regret it. That’s cool that’s just personal preference I was hoping for more right up to the point where you said it’s titanium. And now you have given me a very good reason to check it out. Also it looks nicer. So now it’s on my viewing list.
I made another vid stating a list of differences, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R9d006tMblQ.html in that vid I was trying to be more objective. In this vid, you're right, I'm just stating my personal preference. I'm relatively new to watches, so the more I learn, the more I realise how much I really don't know.
I agree entirely with your decision and your rationale. Don't let the dickheads in the audience (who probably don't even own a Rolex) doubt your wise decision. Great vid.
I enjoy your videos! Found you because you have the two watches I really lust for; the Zenith El Primero tricolor and the JLC Duoface. I probably can’t get both. I promised my wife I would discipline myself 😀. If you could only keep one, which would it be? Also I do have the Submariner no date (my wrists are too small for a Pélagos). I adore my Submariner but tend not to wear it simply because it’s too recognizable. I wear my watches for me and not for the people around me. I’m a civil servant and in my world a Rolex is considered unobtainable. So I guess the Sub was not the best choice. I instead wear my Omega Speedmaster all the time (nobody ever spotted it). And I have a Tag Heuer Monaco classic blue as a weekend watch (although slightly too big).
Well said. Buy what you like and forget the "nay-sayers". I just bought the LHD version. And for the same reason. I want to go my own way. As for the racists out there, it's just the lack of intelligence. Keep rocking your Tudor mate.
Great choice! I just got me the same one. In blue looks amazing. It's way to much talking of Rolex. I can't even hear anymore about it. It looks like 75- 80 years old men. Same looking watch for many many years The matter effect the style way to far from the best. There is many watches around mach better looking and great quality. Palagos one of them.
The pelagos is easily available today whereas the submariner is not compared to 3 years ago. The submariner has gone up in value due to it scarcity whereas the pelagos is roughly the same.
It’s not scarcity, if you visit Rolex website they mention MRSP of 8100$ then small footnote Saying authorized dealers availability changes price. It’s a dirty game of making a common non thing special watch to seem so hard to get in order to inflate prices and add bogus exclusivity.
Rolex have become a “status symbol” more than anything else. The Rolex tell you the time and how rich you are. Tudor Pelagos is a tool watch, and for me, the best in the market as of today.
I'm sure they're both great watches but I prefer the looks of the Tudor. Plus, my brother in law wears a sub and he's a pretentious dick so I just kina associate Rolex with pretentious dicks.
I have 0 swiss watches, but i'm looking hard for my 1st. I've thought long and hard over this same thing. If i buy the Tudor, am i gonna miss being able to say, "hey i own a rolex"! I've considered all the trends... navitimer,,, seamaster,, speedmaster,, pelagos, but i cant really settle on anything. I shouldnt comment because i have no answer for the question, but to say-- thats a good question.
We should all be asking ourselves questions, having civil discussions, and making comments. I disagree that people need to own something in order to make a comment or opinion on it. I think anyone who is into watches should own a Rolex at some point, because you will learn about your own tastes in that experience. Consider a pre-owned model. If you don't prefer it after a year or so, you can get out of it without too much of a financial blow if any.
really no dilemma, get the pelagos with the new in house movement. You get a ton of new technology for half the price. If you need a rolex for your ego, that's another thing...
Yes, I never understand why some people get so butt hurt when you talk about Rolex. I guess that speaks to the power of the brand that many people will strongly defend it it, many of whom don't actually own it.
@@jungleinc you got called out, and you pussied out. Your original comment was spot on. Well almost. I'm still racking my brain figuring out if a Rolex is worth 2.5 times a Tudor. I have till April to decide.
I can afford the Rolex easily. But I shall spend my money on the pelagos as I prefer the watch.. that is called personal preference not a mistake fool!!
Good point. With my bonus money, I bought a Tudor and went on a nice vacation. I'd rather do that, then spend all the money on one watch. We all spend money differently. Some people choose to spend thousands on watches, yet don't own a home. I wouldn't recommend that, but whoever makes the money decides how they prefer to spend it.
Jay Sikes man don’t listen to assholes like Mann Nguyen. He’s only saying that cause he has a small man complex and probably has to overcompensate for something else. Great pick up 👍
