Hey y'all - appreciate the commitment to teaching. One thing to note - I am really really struggling to hear you guys. I've got the volume cranked all the way up. Volume on other channels is no issue. I've often got the same problem on James' own channel.
I’d love to see something on beginner sets, I know you’ve compared them on your other channels but I’d love to see guides for total beginners turning up at a shop or going online like I did to get their first set of clubs and balls. Great content lads.
Love this channel guys and follow both your individual channels. I top a driver,3 wood & 7 wood virtually every time hit take the club out of my bag. I mainly use a 1 iron or 4 iron off the tee but find I'm losing distance to my playing partners and therefor hitting a longer iron into greens. I'm in Australia and have a HC of 21. I'm just about ready to give up golf due to the embarrassment of not getting away on the 1st tee. Can you help me??????
James, enjoying the channel. loving this video - those Taylormade irons look pretty amazing. I'm looking to get fit for these over the winter, possibly at Tour Issue Golf in York. You have mentioned the new announcement, what abut a golf school with you both, whereby we could get a slightly longer time to work on our game, maybe just a day or 2 (or 3!!!).
I am hitting a combo set with the P770 3&4 irons, and then the P7MC 5-PW. I love this set and have had them for 2 months. Since then I have shaved 2 strokes off my handicap from a 4.6 to a 2.4.
I am just a 10 handicap golfer and I recently switched to Mizuno blades. I found them no more difficult to hit than my 921 Forged irons. My ball striking is improving rapidly from concentrating on strike. Despite the weaker lofts they are flying only slightly shorter while flying higher and spinning more with significantly steeper landing angles. My feeling is that slight mishits don’t perform much differently from the 921s while big mishits won’t do well with either. I think the difficulty of playing blades is exaggerated.
I have a very similar experience -- went from a 15 to a 3 handicap in about a year from going from P790 to P7MB -- definitely need distance on my 4 and 5, but my 4 still goes 200 and will never ever go long! Also, strangely enough, I was launching the blades lower and with less spin than the rest of the lot! Go figure! My favorite part about the mishits is that they aren't smashed into the next dimension, they tend to land short of OB!
@@Kirktown Yea that point I made before. When you do mishit, you actually want it to go shorter, its better because much more often than not, it will be short of the hazard or OB instead. Been playing with Taylor Made M2 irons for 5 years, and good clubs yes, but their distance is very inconsistent. If I hit it well I sometimes get an extra kick, going 5+ meters longer, which often goes over the green, and I don't like the feeling to them either. I switched to Titleist mb's this season and i'm loving them so far. Always been a good ball striker and a much better golfer now than 5 years ago (from 14 hcp to around 7,5 now) but still, I love the feel and extra consistency and in my opinion they aren't that much harder to hit. Obviously, blades are not for everyone it has to be said, but I don't think anyone should instantly disregard them due to being so "difficult", its about hitting it well at the end of the day no matter the club.
Love this channel, I can't stop blading my chip/pitch shots! One thought that's helped a bit is just to hit the ground under the ball, can you do a video on how to strike these shots
Enjoying the content, very entertaining and informative (as are both your own channels). I think most golfers would benefit from more content on course management - preferably not don't hit driver type videos, we know the stats seldom support the "don't hit driver" approach - for handicap golfers at least.
Il like these kind of reviews. But I am also curious to see how older clubs like the TM PSi compare to these clubs. Such an assessment would help me to decide to keep on playing the PSi or buy a new set. Could you do such a test?
I think a lot of golfers in my position would like to k ow this: I hit my driver between 260 and 290 yards, with an inevitable crappy shot mixed in at 240. I can hit my irons pretty well 166 for a 7 iron, nothing amazing, but good enough. My strokes come in the scoring zone. Inside 50 yards and putting is where my handicap gets bottled. I am looking to replace my Nike Vapor Pro Combos with a newer set. I feel that the right set for me would be the P7-MC as I am NOT looking for a distance club, and the inconsistencies that can come from those. Getting fitted is an option, but even that (in New York City) is off of a mat. So how do I know if I want to drop $1,600 on these? Or, would I be safer just going with the 770s and dealing with changing my distances? Also, one thing that I think is over-looked when looking at irons. When I stand over a smaller iron head, with a thinner top line, I love it. That gives me the confidence to hit a good shot BECAUSE I am looking down at a better player club. I know I can hit it and THAT makes me feel like I am miles better than I actually am. I came from a set of TM R7s and looking down on that fatty made me think, “eh, I can swing it however and the club will help me.” Getting the Nikes actually made me a better player.
Absolutely loving the new channel. I look forward to what’s coming. I am a person that likes to collect data on my game. I had used GameGolf Live for a few years, until it crapped out on me and I lost ALL of my data. I am now using Arccos during my rounds and a Swing Caddie SC 300i on the range. Would you be willing to, at a cost, look at some videos of swings and look at the data to assist with what needs to be worked on, and then perhaps offering assistance on those things. My question is this: would you be willing to take on a set of lessons and use collected data to assist during those lessons?
18 HC here and I now play the P760s after playing 2018 Apex MBs for a year and I totally agree with your assessment that the P770s are perfect for low/mid/high HC as they deliver great looks and exceptional forgiveness over cavity backs and MB. With my P760s I'm not losing 30 yards from a toe strike. I know when I miss hit but my playing partners have no clue as my ball still gets there. On another note, both of you have such drastically different looking swings and yet you both perform so similarly to each other. Goes to show that contact is the only thing that really matters.
I just moved to the Callaway Rogue ST Max OS for Game Enhancement Irons.. Help out a lot. These appear to be more Player Version of Irons.. Nothing for 15 Handicap or higher..
Love the channel. The nemesis remains the same: chipping and pitching in wet, winter, lies. I’m also interested in Chris’ theory about standing more upright with a longer putter as opposed to what I do, which is a bit bent over the ball with a shorter putter: why?
@@thegolfingmusician6345: Fair point. I’m asking him to explain it to all of us. I’m just trying to improve my game, and if this will help, I’d like to know why or why not.
@@garydavis8213 yeah we are all on the eternal quest that never ends my friend. My short game coach is Mark Wise. He’s PGA pro Arron’s father. He taught me the elbows out bent over Nicklaus style. Definitely helped me sink more putts. I used to stand more upright before that. It just works for me. Sometimes I believe with putting that technique needs to suit your eye. Perspective is an important factor here. Everyone’s eye, strength, weak eye strong eye, all matter with that perspective. So I believe what may work for one person won’t necessarily work for another. It’s personal. Just like body types that can affect different swing styles. Shoot low my friend.
I used Hybrids and Long Irons. I think it's a head thing for me because I miss bad with the hybrid but 3-4 iron is straight down the middle more time than not
Interesting take on 4 iron vs hybrid. I carry my 5 iron 180yds, my hybrid 220ish and my 4 iron goes nowhere. Leaves quite a gap. I could try out a 7 wood or another hybrid but really I want to understand why there's such a drop off between 5 and 4 irons.
They look like great clubs only I wish I could afford them, I wonder if the more expensive club manufacturers will struggle for the next couple of years with most people tightening their belts.
I’m no Pro but I will say from my personal experience. Everyone should get. 4, 5, 6, P790’s 7, 8, 9, P, P7MB’s P790’s have distance and forgiveness for days. 30-50 yards better than the blades P7MB’s for short iron, Accuracy and it digs divots so much smoother and the look is Phenomenal. I have both sets, I play with the blades mainly and the P790’s are for my guest who don’t have clubs. But I do have a P790 - 3 iron. Fairway finder all day 220 yards
It’s a very weird sport. I’m terrible with woods and equally as lucky as unlucky with putting. Completely surgical with the P7MC and MG3’s though. Have all the confidence in the world with those.
You buy whatever clubs you want!!! Tbh either clubs you pick you will most likely will not score better you will score the same. Only way you can score better is the putting and short game or get dialed in from 150-100y and able to keep the tee shots in the fairways. Blades or CB irons don’t really matter that much. Most thing you will see is the loft change. if you hit consistently you can play blades. Tbh if your drives on par4 get you 150 away. You can go 8i or 7i easy. Less loft and offset makes the address look way better imo.
It would be interesting to know the difference between the newest P790 and the 2023 P770? I’m older and have a slower swing speed then you 2. 7 handicap. Was thinking of getting the Ping I525 or Cobra Forged Tec irons. Curious how these would fit in the mix? Ric
Every time I watch a channel test blades the narrative is “unless you’re a plus handicapper you shouldn’t play these”, and then the tester proceeds the stripe the blades and want to put them in the bag. Just play bloody blades if you want to! There’s NOTHING like puring a blade, NOTHING. And it’s worth a few mis hits to get that feeling in my book.
Oh last but not least, I went from P790’s to P7MB’s because the material quality on the 790’s suck ass. 8 months into playing them and they are scratched to shit. 5 months into the MB’s and they still look brand new. The steel used for the blades is 2 times harder, same process used to make Tiger Woods set minus the name and your getting the same clubs.
Blows my mind how biased you all are about blades. The center of the MB is the same size as the center of the 770. Telling everyone to not use them unless you’re the top 1-5 players in the world is ridiculous. You need to do better. You should prolly encourage people to get lessons to improve ball striking instead of down talking a specific club type.
To get good at golf, hitting long irons off the tee, any long irons from any brand....USE A TEE! Why miss out on the chance to give yourself the perfect lie? The best players in the world tee their 3i, 4i, and even 5i up with a millimeter or two of the tee showing beneath the ball and you should too.
Very repetitive comment about limiting muscle backs to tiger and rory. Some people prefer the feel, look, address, turf interaction, etc of muscle backs or similar. The forgiveness is very overblown. A mistruck cavity will still go array
@@getgoodatgolf Just throwing it out there. Every reviewer I watch says the same, even indicating handicap minimums. Never mention that higher handicap could be due to woods or wedges, for example. I think scaring people away from them would lead to people never trying them which is unfortunate. They're worth a shot for anyone
They are not saying dont buy blades. They are simply saying do not buy blades if you are not good enough to hit them and you want to actually "get good at golf"! It's no coincidence 7 of the top 10 players in the world dont hit blades! It is because they care more about performance and results than looking cool with butter knife blades in the bag! If all you care about is looks and feel or are an ELITE BALLSTRIKER by all means play blades because they are beautiful but remember they only look and sound good when you hit them perfectly out of the middle.
Love the Channel but it seems the content is strongly biased towards the best clubs around. Rather than something for the Guys like myself who can only afford an old set of second hand equipment.
I'm a fan generally but its just silly for reviewers to keep criticizing blades and then hit them as good as the other clubs. You did the same thing with the the review of the 620mb and quite frankly its annoying. Any player can hit a bad shot with any club and rather than discouraging people from playing more traditional clubs maybe you should share with them the truth, first, you cannot buy a good golf swing or a good game, and second a players handicap is far more indicative of their ability on and around the greens than the irons they're playing or should choose.
NONE of these clubs should be used by ANYONE with a handicap over 6-8! These are unforgiving, and will actually make your scores go up! In fact the MC and TW shouldn’t be played by anyone higher than a 0! Those clubs are for tour pros, and NOT low or mid handicap players!
Yeah keep talking pal while i am handicap 25,8 and have no problems. I go the p770 and p7mc combo set and my average round on a links is +1 i am fine with that.
Thanks you guys!! This is a very educational video. Certainly helps from potentially purchasing the wrong irons for a golfers game. 🏌️♂️ TaylorMade does wonderfully with catering to any level of golfer
