I came here to basically say the same thing. England called it soccer first when they created. We just kept the name when everyone else decided to change it.
Apparently our team isn’t even a professional team? They’re like a weekend recreational team or something, from what I heard. I still don’t know what cricket is, or how singing insects play into sports as a whole, but still.
At first I thought there was a massive population difference, but they're well over 235 million (to our 333). Yeah, we beat them with our 8th string and a full-time tech employee. That's hard to swallow.
I never thought about it like that. But that did kind of happen once before. Lol. We love you Guam! If Guam is a ship... does that make Taiwan a strike group? xD
We're so worried about the Ruskie ship that we sent an entire Coast Guard vessel to tail it. And it's a good thing it's the USCG, because they're good at rescuing shipwreck victims.
Yeah that's what happens when the country leadership only do a half arsed effort to implement the metric system. But come on what sounds better 14 stone or 196 pounds when trying to feel better about your own fat arse
Americans, has a so complicated measurment system that they use anything else then the official measures. Like length of football fields, same size as a fridge, same weight as a blue whale and so on forever lol :)
@@a64738 We tend to get taught metric alongside it, for me there was equal attention on both. The government can't be bothered to pay the considerable sum to actually change all the signs and standards in such a massive country and the taxpayers don't care enough to object, so they gave up and defined U.S. Customary in metric at the national institute for standards and what-have-you and stuck metric labels next to the old ones on the packaging of food, drink, and other assorted things. And we're not using drams and grains to measure pharmaceuticals, though we do use grains for ammunition. Some of this is frankly just screwing around, some is preference, but most is inertia.
I specifically know conversion rates from American standards of units and measures to metric because of projectile diameters and tank armor. 12.7mm is half an inch and everything goes from there, 152mm is 6 inches, the most common caliber for ammunition is 1/3 of an inch and almost every nation during ww2 used a 3 inch gun at 75/76mm.
Wait, so the M16 can now be the official intermediary when the explaining metric? M16A1 - 0.986 M M16A2 - 1.0007 M M16A4 - 1.000M Well, that works for me.
What do you call a Mexican standoff, when one party can’t see the gun pointed back at its head? 100% there’s an attack sub out there ready to make a new coral reef.
Yeah that's something people need to realize that Russia has more Naval vessels than they can realistically operate since the collapse of the USSR. A lot of these ships required specialized ports to get maintenance from, and those ports were in Ukraine. So many of their ships been in varying levels of disrepair since the collapse of the USSR that I think the ships have killed more Russian Naval servicemen in peace time than modern warfare has. Anyone remember the Kursk submarine incident? I'm more impressed the Russian ships even made it that far away from Russia, especially when Soviet naval doctrine put more emphasis on coastal defense, while still wasting resources on larger naval vessels in some misguided attempt to compete with larger Navys capable of operating away from their home countries.
Ehh, yeah, why do you think they brought their own tug and the US responded by tailing the Muskovites with a sea search and rescue vessel of the US Coast Guard instead of an actual warship! 😂 Though I do admit it would have been hillarious if the yankee tugs took the USS New Jersey on a scenic detour on her way back home to the museum anchorage after her drydocking 🤣
That's assuming the missiles can even leave their tubes. All nice and snuggled in their own tube why would they want to leave? Button pushed... Missile: No! I don't want to leave! Anyways I'm stuck in here! Crewmembers... Did he just say stuck!??
At this point, who would WANT Russian weapons? All they seem to do is blow up real good when viewed on FPV drone video feeds. In the triad of Russian failures in Ukraine, it's "Doctrine, Discipline, and Dodgy weapons systems"
@@chrisdufresne9359 the cold war never ended. The flag might have changed but that doesn't make them our friend, just an unknown veritable that needs to be measured.

@@therealbatman-mi3kc@therealbatman-mi3kc I laughed the ugliest most resigned laugh at this 😂 If someone FAFO like that, thats when we'll magically get an infrastructure bill passed. Gotta have adequate infrastructure for manufacturing and distribution of all those weapons, afterall 😂
Nope, we got English Units which came over with the British colonists. British Imperial and US Customary Units that are based off it came later after the falling out. US never used Imperial as a result. It's just both being based off English Units borrowed a lot of the labels so confusing the two is easy. You could find gas cans from the US Canadian border that had Metric Litres, US Gallon, and Imperial Gallon on it at one time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon#/media/File:GasCan.jpg
We use a shit ton of metric. Hospitals are giving CCs. Military calls distance in klicks. Soda is in liters. NASA told everyone not using metric to take a long walk without a space tether after they lost the mars orbiter to a conversion error. We keep using our customary units wherever it's convenient because we already have a mountain of shit built around it and retooling is a cost without a benefit. It's not like the Brits aren't still using miles per hour, drinking pints, and weighing people, farm animals and various mothers in pounds, ounces, and stones. It's a mixed bag on both sides of the Atlantic.
The "big bad" Federal government won't let them ship their prisoners to fight Russians so we can see a fair fight between inmates. To be fair though, if it was allowed... their go half their combined electoral votes. Wouldn't surprise me if Florida comes out on top based on raw numbers sent over.
Joke inbound. I told my wife to embrace her mistakes. She gave me a hug. Edit: Many thanks for 50 likes. ❤ Didn't expect a dad joke to get so many like but I'm not complaining.
It wasn’t slang Soccer/ Association foot ball was called such to distinguish itself in Cambridge in the clubs it was played, against the Gaelic and Irish football, which eventually turned into Rugby and American Football when the Irish brought it to the Americas The Irish called it “football” and to distinguish it against the British’s football, called it Soccer If anything, we have the Irish to thank for the distinction, which is better then calling rugby, kickball, association, Gaelic, gridiron and Canadian football, all football Imagine 20 different games all calling it football The US should adopt Gridiron as the name for the NA football & the rest of the world should adopt Association football, as the name for soccer It would save a lot of stupidity
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 American Football players didn’t at first either, they got more and more of that stuff added in over time as the game got bigger and bigger.

In America's defense the limeys do use Stones and Hands as a form of measurement. I would love to see Habitual Linecrosser use one of those measurements in a later video to show how ridiculous measurements can be.
I remember when I went through several shocks when I learnt that 1. Cricket was Really big in India 2. Disney broadcasted sport events 3. They got really hit in the wallet when they lost the rights to broadcast cricket.
The shocking part is that it is Disney+ that did it. Sports streaming didn't really exist except as part of odd one-offs back then, and Disney+ is pretty strictly limited to family, Marvel, and Star Wars stuff (the ABC stuff was put onto Hulu and the ESPN stuff was put onto ESPN+, if it was put anywhere at all). So, it was a little odd to think of Disney+ of all services, being the main cricket streamer in India. @@BouncingZeus
Fun fact 0:17, Britain was the country that coined and popularized the term "soccer". So when they brought the game over to America, the name Soccer stuck. So if you ever wonder why America calls it Soccer, blame Britain.
We were also getting a shipment of metric weights to use as well......before the british sunk the french ship carrying said weights. Wonder why we took so long to implement it? 🤔🤣
@@FractalNinja Because the argument for it almost always boils down to "But the Euros use it!", and the ivory tower pseudointellectual types pushing for it don't grok that for the typical American, that's a reason not to.

@@kingdomcome180 Its (the team and the word cup and matches) been planned for years. Knew about it like 1-2 years ago. Big Cricket Fan. Honestly all of us were shocked when Pakis got clapped.
I sort of assumed we did because we generally have a team for everything, no matter how obscure (to us). Like, we definitely have at least one curling team. However, I didn't look for concrete proof of the existence of said cricket team. It's nice to know :P
And they’re half Indian… 🇮🇳 lmao!! Placed number 2 in group A as of the moment, gave India a run for its money! Kholi out in a single ball, Sharma out in a few after that? But most recurring Cicada swarms (Brood I guess?) don't last as long as a cricket match; thanks to the average 3-4 week lifespan once they reach adult stage of their natural life cycle. When you have to cancel a game after 10 days of playing because your ship is leaving port...
Best destruction of metric system advocates to date. Imperial's got the best sass. _"uh, let me convert that to landed on the moon first measurements"_ effing died. HLC, hat's off as usual.
Just so everyone knows the Soccer joke at the start of the video is funnier to me because the British invented the word soccer and we just adopted it from them
And we aren't even the only country that calls it Soccer. Canada, South Africa, Australia and the Republic of Ireland also use the word. Britain is that grouchy father that hates his younger days, but forgot he taught his children those traits and acts haughty seeing in his kids what he hates about himself.
The whole cricket line of jokes is hilarious for so many unintentional reason.... the best is England came up with the word Soccer and we adopted it because we also had American FootBall.... then they quit using it and "forgot" about it.
Of the 4 Rus Ships going to Cuba, 1 is a Fuel Tanker, and 1 is a TUG... I think I saw that the others are a Sub and a Cruiser.... both of which have not only US ships shadowing them but other aliy ships as well.
Not a cruiser. An Admiral Gorshkov class frigate, about the same displacement as a US Coast Guard Legend class cutter. They're relatively new and have a lot of VLS cells, but they're small enough the couast guard probably wouldn't have a problem sinking them with their 57mm Bofors.
I liked when I read the early reports that stated they were sending their aircraft carrier. They should have if they really wanted the world's attention. We'd all be checking daily to see if it sunk itself and Vegas would be going crazy adjusting the odds of it making back to Russian waters. "Did anyone have July 4th, early morning, a river in Argentina? Uh... electrical fire, and... sea turtles?"
Technically speaking, the British made up the word soccer not the US to differentiate between rugby football (also called ruggers at the time) and association football( which is the normal football/soccer everyone is used to now). So the UK should be blaming itself
The US doesn't have a standard way to measure s h i t. They just use whatever they have on hand. Sometimes its imperial, sometimes its metric, sometimes its how many bacons it would take to get from here to there.
I keep looking up HLC's info on Google because his jokes make me curious (Hi hello civilian nerdlet here) and I love what I'm seeing.
