ABOUT THIS VIDEO

I have never been able to touch my toes as far as I remember but always thought it was tight hamstrings and genetic for me, didn’t realize it was related to hip muscles. I am on two yoga blocks with knees bent but I was able to get closer to my toes afterwards.

This guy knows how to save your back. I am tall, almost 80, and do crop picking for a living, hard work that no one over 35 should have to do. He will teach you how to save your spine. It involves flexibility in other parts of your body. Do what he says.

@@RS-ni3lj Thanks! It would be nice. But as long as I can feed myself and pay my bills, I will keep working. The old Veteran's Home is waiting when I need it! Some people guess my age between 50-60. It's good for me to keep active. It hurts more, but athletes hurt too. I am one of the happiest people you will meet.

I can't tell you enough how much you have helped me! I'm a senior in a remote location where the hospital and doctors are in another town and it takes hours to get there and home again. In Canada, so health care is free and we have a lot of doctors to attend to us. We get a team of doctors here so they collaborate and also so someone from that team is available to travel to our area if we don't, or can't get there. They are very good in my opinion but really rely on lab tests to diagnose. They listen, but their weakness is in not choosing the most obvious possible solution to a problem. They don't always look at the whole person and try to relate the symptoms to what they see. In my case, old, inactive, and overweight. I have found that doctors can be that way since they are more likely to be searching for some vague disease or ailment first to make sure they don't miss some 'you have 6 months to live' situation. I had a few appointments just before the pandemic to try to figure out my back, abdominal, and issues with my feet. I was given painkillers, but I rarely take pills if I can help it. They didn't work so I started doing my own research to try to give them more precise information. On my own, I used reasoning and common sense of what had changed in my life (besides getting older) and realized I had become really inactive. That was my biggest change. I was also eating more than I needed that added to my problems of weight gain and needing to get up to pee many times in the night - which meant the dreaded stairs in bare feet. One foot, ankle, and arch twist after another resulted and that meant recuperating downstairs on an uncomfortable lounger - more back and some new hip pains because of that. Once I realized I needed to be more active, yoga type stretching, and gentle muscle movements, I started getting better and since I felt better, I ate less too. Eating less changed my need for multiple bathroom trips and I started wearing cushioned supportive slippers in the house instead of bare or sock feet. Really needed that foot support when overweight and inactive. That's when I found your videos and watching one after the other, I knew you completely understood a body that needed to be strengthened through gentle exercise. I feel like there is hope for me now as I have seen tremendous improvements and I watch your videos often for encouragement and my pep talk to keep at it. A dream team would not be having a group of doctors with the same general knowledge, but having a team that could cover many fields - medical ailments, diet, physiotherapy with muscle and exercise help... I had been referred to all except a physiotherapist, but if they all do their own thing without consulting, it doesn't always result in a solution. One doesn't know what the other is doing. Right now, you are my team and it is working! You make so much sense it is astonishing.

Hi this is awesome! 👍 I have a question 🤔 Could you make a video about how to strech and how not to strech for people after total hip replacement? I have been looking for such video for one my elders in family, and seems that noone has enough of knowledge to share any tips …. but everyone just wants to give advices to “healthy people” ☹️

Those were great stretches for me as when I went to touch my toes without bending my knees afterwards, I could do it! Last week I couldnt do that without a lot of aching. I am now working on being able to touch the floor.

It’s strange, I have never been able to touch my toes, even as a child and doing gymnastics I could do the splits and all that but never touch my toes. I am nearly 49 now and love to be able to get that flexibility. My hips are very flexible, so much so my old yoga teacher was jealous on my first yoga lesson, yet still couldn’t touch my toes. Will try these exercises.

I don't think I've been able to touch my toes anywhere close to the way you're demonstrating in this video since puberty. Even in college just touching my toes was painful and I was using the tips of my fingers to barely pull it off. I think some people are just more flexible than others.

Funny thing my flexion happens through my upperback, if i focus on activating the lumbar spine then it hurts. Been having lumbar spine pain as soon as i flex that area. No disc issues on mri, nothing shows on scans… 2 years now :(

I really don't know what to do anymore. I tried a lot of stretches, nothing works for me. For the first position in this video, I can't bend my back forwards past like 10 degrees, after that, legs just hurt like hell. Feels like I can't do anything to improve because I can't even do the bare minimum, anything I try is just too damn uncomfortable. I'm at a loss, any tips?

I can barely reach my knees for the first position. 😢 Any improvements on your flexibility since then?
@ondrej_hrdina
@ondrej_hrdina 11 месяцев назад
@@daydreameraj9777 Honestly, I haven't focused on it much, but I have improved somewhat. What worked for me was not honing on just this one specific thing, but getting the whole body moving. Not being disappointed I can't get results right away is a big thing too. It's a slow process, you can't really rush it else you hurt yourself, so I'd just say go to where it's comfortable, notice where the strain is, and settle into that position. Move around different muscles and listen to your body. Nothing works for everyone. And some people just have different limits because of their physiology.

10 min. tops and I had to sit down. I could barely do dishes by hand or cook without breaks because that was happening to me too. Pain killers did not work. Lower back and pain right through to abdomen so I had to lean against counter or sit down often. Sitting and reclining were not painful at all! Found out I needed to strengthen my abdomen and do back and leg stretches (plus wear shoes that supported my feet and back). We are connected and sometimes weakness in one area manifests itself in another. Much better now...

I don't think pulling back on the toes is necessary to stretch your hip extensors. Stretching out the entire posterior chain would only aggravate the sciatic nerve.
