Since the answer to that question is a quite obvious - duh doy. Let's ask instead what meaning can we take away from the different visuals and how maybe, just maybe, the unique art style of each season of Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru or My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected - actually makes them not only distinct...but maybe stronger.
Also I went for Persona music because weirdly I think there's some really interesting inverted themes between the two series but also some similar ones and that concept was kinda sticking with me as I was editing this video.

I totally agree. The version of Hachiman in S1 suits his visuals there, cartoony, comedic, it makes it work very well. for S2, it gets extra dramatic, driving near to their romance. The design gets more realistic which works for the story. As for S3 now, it gets even more dramatic, I think they made it even more realistic with the character designs and the visuals, suiting the dramatic "confession" S2 ended with.

Honestly I'm a little surprised that you didn't bring up or at least talk about more how the visual change affects our outlook on Hachiman. Before when he had the "nerd" build and was meek looking, by season 2 you could describe him as slightly attractive and significantly taller and larger than the other characters which makes his dynamic with them different

By the s2 hachiman gain more confidence and move a lot as his interaction and numbers activities increase from all that stuff in s1. Haciman before and during s1 basically has zero interaction and just spending his time reading or playing with his phone

@@soradps Yeah That is something that really irked me even while rewatching the series. It is always implied and accepted that hachiman is half decent looking guy but the way season 1 potrays his appearance with weird hair and fish eyes is just excessive projecting in my opinion, It's like they created this image for a loner and that's what they think would create the most impact for this character trait.

S1 showed first and yes implying that kind of look, S2 came out of nowhere with new production and by coincidence changed the character designs coincidentally also suiting S2s feels, like u know? the way it "gets dramatic it actually suits the character design of S2 making it look like it was changed on purpose", kind of feels

I really like how you mentioned the brand of comedy change that art style can bring. Sure, season two was generally more emotional than one, but I think the more apparent contrast can make comedic situations more effective. Season 2's director, Kei Oikawa, also worked on Hinamatsuri. While that show was largely a similar brand of comedy to SNAFU's second season (If I'm remembering correctly), it was surprisingly effective at evoking emotion. I'm more of a fan of the balance the second seasons art style brings as well as the more subtle comedy. Great video!

Yukinoshita looks so much better in season 1 in my opinion. Pro tip: if you think the show is great give the light novel a shot, chances are you're gonna think it's amazing. So much more content and you really get to know why Hachiman acts the way he does in each situation. Btw., "Yui's love... of club" had me laughing way too hard. Love the video, mate.

but you won't be then able to know almost most of 8man's inner monologues which are very satisfying to read and through them, we see the outlook of life according to 8man's perspective. I just joined the Oregairu Fandom when I saw season 3 trending in anime when I decided to give the 2 seasons a try and I was instantly hooked to the 2 seasons. So I went ahead and gave the light novels a try and as Nokemono Alter said they are goddamned good. So I will say the same thing to you as well to read the light novel.

Season 2's only flaw is its lack of dynamics in the character's facial expressions. If they're able to be a bit more exaggerated while still keeping it's smooth animation, then it's perfect

I’d say that the visuals did make a difference. I personally prefer the 2nd one since its more refined and the softer colour pallet. The FEELs, emotion and atmosphere FEELs like it’s brought to the forefront.

For me, Season 2 definitely has a prettier style then season 1, however for Yukino’s look, I think season 1 has a better image of her since she had a more “cold blooded” eye which suits her personality.

Oregairu’s proof that a great story and excellent writing are all it takes to keep viewers engaged even amongst outside factors like stylistic changes in animation. That being said; season 2 is infinitely more beautiful then season 1, so that also helps. The emphasis on characters and themes also just put icing on the cake. I always liked season 2 a little more because of this fact.

Awesome job at explaining your points with good examples and visuals to match. You've earned a new sub from me for sure. To talk about Oregairu, I absolutely love this anime. Your views are pretty close to my own, the fun and lighthearted feel of the first season is matched extraordinarily well by the visuals, and likewise does the more realistic style of the second season match the more dramatic tone. I personally didn't feel much of a negative impact if any at all when watching it for the first time because the change in styles worked so well. It felt like a natural progression. To end, Oregairu is an awesome anime and I am absolutely ecstatic over the recent confirmation of season 3 next year. And please do examine scenes from Oregairu in depth, I would love to watch those videos. Cheers, great job, and looking forward to more from you!

I would love for you to analyze this series. I fell in love with it back in early high school because I had very extreme anti-social outlook leftover from middle school. 8-man was my idol back then. I rewatch the series nowadays and it has lost a lot of magic to me. I know if you were to analyze some part of this series it could restore at least a little of that magic. It did add quite a bit to Hyouka, and this is probably another series that deserves a good analysis.

Go read the LN if you hadn't done it yet. It's far superior and way more deep than the anime. I love both the anime and the light novels, but in the LNs the characters and story are significantly more fleshed out. I have read the LNs like 4 or 5 times already and with each re-read i was always finding some details i have missed, even to the point that would overthrow my understanding of certain characters and their actions (especially Haruno and Hayama, also Yukino) completely on its head. It's more fun to analyze this series yourself than to rely for that on others. Believe me, you have a lot to discover if you only watched an anime adaptation.

Oh! You recognised Yumiko's greatness from the Anime?! Great job! The Light Novel really makes her shine muuuuuuuuch more and her behind the scene relationship with Hikio and how they learn from each other is very interestingly told. No wonder there are so many HikioxYumiko fanfictions. Hikio got a huge boost too thanks to like 90% more inner thoughts and dialogue. It's really a shame that there isn't much merchandise for the show.

What I love of Oregairu is that the first season managed to gather enough interest in a second season and played it relatively safe with the comedy and cartoonish feel to it. I love that S2 finally manages to be what I believe Oregairu was meant to be, a beautifully animated and directed story, in which every shot manages to be gorgeous, showing you the story without shoving it into your face. It's more like a movie made into an anime.

I think the season 2 animation is *a lot* better than it was in the first season. For example, Hachiman just looked dead so I'm glad that a new animation studio took over for season 2. Everyone looks better in season 2

Excellent video. I think that what you said was right, in the light novels they mention that hachiman hair color is black i don't no why they did it green , in my opinion i like the s2 art style more, one thing that you didn't mentioned i the video is that the art style of the light novels change with the volume with the same illustrator you can see it looking at the cover of volume 2 and compare to volume 13, i think they tried to do the animation like the volumes they were animating.

Oregairu is such a masterpiece. 8man's philosophies are all kinds of funny and real. I've always wondered why they changed studios and designers. This video gave me an answer that might not be the real reason but is plausible otherwise. I love how you forshadowed Ebina's character :^)

okay okay. Im happy RU-vid recommended this to me because.... eh i didnt even notice anything. I started to watch Season 2 one day after finishing Season 1... How did i not notice ANYTHING WTF. Ok that i didnt notice it was made by another Studio, i can understand but HOW, HOW IN THE WORLD DID I NOT NOTICE THE CHANGE OF DESIGN. When I first watched the show back in middle school (both seasons were out by then) I didn't even notice the visuals changed. When I binged on the show in prep for season 3, I noticed the shift and got confused for a second... I also started relating to it a lot more. Funny how 4-5-ish years changes someone.

For me the green hair of hachiman was much better, actually the whole persona of Hachiman was more appealing than the one from S2 but other than that I didn't mind *edit* : I must say though that S2 visuals make the charakters feel a little bit older and more mature which complements the story well

I neven actually looked that closely to the style and its change. But I guess, as you said, it matches the original content. Despite I missed those funny moments sketchy moments, Hiratsuka's punches and etc, they really could break the drama of the S2. Because at the end of the day oreGairu is not about happy school life and it's topic, even mixed with jokes, is rly serious.
