The little light on the switch is usually used as a locator so that when the light is off and its dark you can see where the switch is located. I would have glued a female adaptor into the last conduit box so that the flexi termination could be screwed into it if I were to do it your way. There is more than one way top skin a cat .... i.e. You could have changed from T&E to a SWA cable and clipped that all the way or used galv conduit instead of plastic. I would have put a double set in to get a through box onto the wall pier and then carried the conduit on round the corner with a bend so no flexi required. Finished job did look OK though, good job.

When Adam was originally saying maybe flexi conduit all the way across I was thinking noooo noo, solid all the way and just flexible at the ends. That’s exactly how I’d have done that too 👌🏼

Adam. The light on the switch can be on when the ceiling light is off. It helps you locate the switch in the dark. Well that’s what MK did 30 years ago+

Yes, this is what the indicator is for, locating the switch in the dark and goes off when the ditch is on.

If you don’t need a joint in the cable. You could do without the boxes and make it even neater. Just glue a conduit female connector on each end of your solid and screw your flexicon connector instead of the bush, I sometimes use this to hop round obstacles instead of being flexible all the way. Avid follower, good job boys.

I use a straight coupler to change between pvc conduit and flexicon. If you want, you can glue the flexicon into the coupler, like you do in the endbox. Unless you need to make a connection, use an endbox, otherwise straight from hard conduit to flexicon. Greets 🤘

IMO would have been a good idea to use something UV rated like SWA, even if you had to join the Twin and earth on the outside Wall with a IP rated box, PVC conduit can degrade over time in sunlight

IP JB at the house , changed to swa/hi tuff. Or possibly galv conduit on top/side of piers (depending how it looked) . Either way nothing is ever going to look perfect with the types of bends needed. All in all think the flexi actually turned out quite nice visually in the end 👍

22:50 DIY (so I have time to faff about), but I'd probably try and use the hard conduit with some elbows solvent welded together. Also I prefer saddle clips like the Talon ones where there's a single screw that is hidden by the conduit.

Anyone else noticed the dodgy BG RCD’s? I’ve had several be faulty where they introduce a resistance into the circuits they supply of approx 0.5 to 0.65 ohms, I’ve had to replace quite a few. Won’t go near them when I’m looking to install any new consumer units.

Not trying to troll here, but I'm actually looking for flexible conduit. Here in the Netherlands the only thing we have is 16 and 19mm flexible yellow PVC which isn't UV rated so it gets brittle when used outside. Which type/model of black flexicon? should i import for use outside on or above ground ground to disguise low voltage wiring ?

Great vid again lads. I don't know how easy this idea would of been but could you have possibly drilled a 22-24mm hole through the side of the brick for your flexicon or conduit to go straight through? I would have to be there to see first but I might have done that. But still a really neat and tidy job Adam 👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍👍

Why do people use flexible conduit in garage installations? Pvc conduit would is much more suitable for this type of garage/shed install, unless there is chance of impact then galvanized is more suited. What is the benefits in using flexible apart from eliminating some bends and box's?

I ended up change in the RCD to a main switch as originally I was going to put it on an MCB in the mainboard because it was a feed cable but the twin and earth feeds throughout the house I couldn’t guarantee that it wasn’t buried less than 50 mil so I’d rather cover the feed cable with an RCBO

I personally woukd not use white PVC conduit, nor white flexible conduit outside, have you never seen UV damage to white PVC conduits ? I would be surprised if you have seen it UV rated. It's just the same with those white/ light zip-ties, they are just not UV rated. There are specific UV rated black zip-ties, usually Nylon 66 and with stainless barbs as opposed to the moulded in type. Flexicon is very handy stuff but... I would now never use that white version externally. Many years ago I used it for a temporary supply to my own garage and a few years later it was already degrading, first it goes dull, then slowly the UV light breaks it down and almost looks like some rodent was chewing through it, next thing is its looks like powder ! Onne I saw the initial degradation I left it installed to see just how much it degraded over time, I of course could do this on my own property. I have witnessed grey T&E installed outside, on a catenary and in wet weather and in darkness I saw blue sparks tracking along the length of the T&E, a good light show it was, again, not UV rated. You bad material choice Nick 😉 no matter how neat, SWA is made for the job.
