Trying to say a wall mounted extractor in an old terrace bathroom doesnt go to plan when there is no loft access and ended up changing the bathroom light to Jcc rapid LED to make life easier for conduit entry
That wall looked single skin and the ceiling clearly had no insulation with the rafters showing through the plaster. I think in the circumstances the job done was a good option as this washroom was no sistine chapel
You made the best of a nightmare job. I’ve forgotten how many times a landlord has said “just make the best of it!” when you know that it’s going to be semi permanent! Adam did a great job on the board, he’s a quick learner and a good listener. 👍🏼
The plaster is hanging off the wall and its got a blue carpet yet people are bothered about conduit. Welcome to domestic landlord work. Chase in on renovation. Real world sparking Nick keep it coming! Nowt wrong with it. Nice work Adam, train them better than you can do it yourself. Someone smart told me that once upon a time.
@@GARRYEASTON The point is with the current state of the bathroom and landlord request Nick did a good job. Start pissing around to much and the plaster falls off. I dont think he would use this approach in new bathroom renovation.
Hello Nick. When you read the comments it is clear that viewers are missing the key point here that this is a temporary setup as the owners are gutting the bathroom in 3-4 months so that is why the owner agreed to conduit. You could change the title of the video or add a caption explaining that. You don't want to damage your reputation as you and Adam do quality work.
Least said about the fan install the better lol. On a serious note that mains board Adam fitted was an excellent job well done young man. I told you watching Dave Savery post of how to install a consumer unit was well worth the time again lol.
Don't know if anyone's already said it but.... The best tape I found for ducting is the foil tape. Electrical tape just goes mank after a while and if cold/moisture gets to it then it looses it's stick. Handy to keep a roll in the van
No access in the roofspace, trying to fiddle with trunking with the corners and sloping roof, i dont think of a better way to do it to be honest, but thats my opinion, proper good job mate !!!
Nice install as always Nick, however, the landlord has chose a daft location for the fan. Unless the door shuts air tight and the far window opens any steam or moisture near that bath will stay there.
Great job for both of you people fussing over the conduit just making hassle there was obvious reasons and customer must have gave it the ok chill out !
Good timing. Are there any outside extractor covers on the market which are non-flappy but also reduce the wind coming in? In a new build flat which gets a fair bit of wind. Had a straight though one like Nick has first which just made the bathroom like an icebox. Got the developer to swap it to one which had a cowl and a backdraft damper integrated, but that just bangs away. Looking for a silent compromise which reduces the amount of air coming back through. Or does this not exist? Cheers.
Anyone ever noticed how the ones having a pop at the work are the type to have a profile picture of a wolf howling at the moon or a picture of next doors dog with a brittish flag behind 😂🤔
Needs must I suppose. If it were me I would have explored the option of getting a roofer to duct through the roof and fit a fan close enough to the light you could grab the feed and switchwire. As they say you can only piss with what you've got and you managed to do a tidy pipe job.
Not sure the landlord would of swallowed the price of a roofer on top of nicks price, and you would of destroyed the ceiling cutting a 4 inch hole in a lather and plaster ceiling 👎
Haha, job well done but it does look hideous, even in that bathroom. Over here in The Netherlands conduit is mostly used chased in the walls. But there's the occasional shed or old farm house or places that want a bit of an industrial look that this will actually look good in when visible. Mind you that we only get a yellowish or grey PVC conduit here. None of the fancy white or black stuff! I like the fact that it is easy to replace the wiring in conduit, even when using the old singles!
Super work from you pair again! Nothing polished up here, very realistic situations, some of the comments are quite funny though from people really showing how out of touch they are with domestic works.
Call at an Agri Merchant and buy some Silage Tape, just like Insulation tape but 75mm wide, does a great job sealing fans to tubing, use it all the time :-)
fair play for putting that video out , dont understand with the decorating that needs doing surley niching in the cable down the celing and chase the isolator in then fill it . But hey you do what you think best
I would have just used mini trunking with some grooves cut for the bends and metal ties within the trunking in case of fire. In and out. Not necessarily nice too look at but what surface containment in domestic does!!!!
Im in the process of engineering a tool that will make glanding a cable much easier and quicker. Can I send you one when I have completed the design and see how you get on with it?
@@asef698 when you use the word screw (more than once) to explain how to make off an end onto a cable gland, I very much doubt you are an electrician 😂😂
Greenwood airvac 100mm fast fit ducting you can thank me later no longer have to climb up double extensions anymore to fit an extractor duct. Also there is a specific tape for ducting but I cannot remember what it was called 🤔 duct tape maybe lol
I understand the no access in the attic, but surely u could chop out and use caping or ovel conduit, and would be interested how u sold the conduit idea to the customer.
I suspect it was the easiest, quickest and cheapest method. If your going to start chopping the ceiling that's another 2-3 days of a bathroom out of action really with wet plaster and wet paint. Conduit is cheap and easy
great job. I actually like conduit work, and you've made a class job of that: well impressed. Adam's done an awesome job of that CU. Fab stuff guys :-)
Could you not have rodded up from the original baten lamp holder, rodded up from the edge of the ceiling, climb up to the hatch with a hooked rod and retrieve both ends, screwed them together to form one rod, and pulled cable through.
@@lewis94uk Still gotta cover cover yourself bud, if a manufacturer specify it just do it, thats why you can buy a fan isolator with 3a module built in. Suppose the house caught fire because of it, wouldnt be funny for the installer then would it |
I think a 32mm hole were the isolator is would have fished a cable up to the hatch .but sure I wasn't doing the job so was probably a dirty pig of a job we've all been there 😭
Homeowners forcing you to install work sub optimally due to budget. Hmmm that must have been a contribution to your quitting the trade video im yet to watch - skimming through in the next 10 vids I haven't watched yet. Thumbs up.
Local Isolation, for maintenance purposes. And it is generally good practice to install a fused connection unit fused down to 3A or a 3 pole isolator. Helps when fault finding and also if the customer doesn't want to constantly have the fan running on trickle.
I know greenwood is one manufacturer that states that if it's on a local lighting circuit on a 6a type b then no need to fuse it down. Also who came up with this fusing bs. Obviously if the fan is a spur off a ring you'd pull it down to 3a but everyone knows a 6a type b will pop way before a 3a fuse.
I prefer to use rigid plastic ducting when going through a wall like that. No need for cable ties etc, the fan outlet and external grille will just push snugly into it. As others have said, I would have chased this in, making good after with 20 minute easifill, but each to his own. Why the heat shrink on the bonding? Can't see the point.
Why have you done it like that? Mateeee.... Only joking mate. You’ve obviously exhausted all avenues. To be fair chasing that wall would have caused you no end of issues.
Those screwfix/B&Q Manrose extractors are about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Please stop using them and fit decent centrifugal extractors from the likes of Vectair or Nuaire. Preferably with a humidistat or always on, with a comfort timer, that boosts a few mins after the light is switched on (so that it doesn't run in the middle of the night for early hour jimmy riddle breaks) and runs on for a certain period to clear the condensation.
This is exactly what I said and mr Bundy very politely asked if I had watched the video. I personally dont like conduit anywhere inside a domestic dwelling. Worse case I would run it in trunking. Conduit is mainly for external use or industrial/commercial dwellings. Especially the proper stuff 25mm galv.
The whole bathroom is not really up to standard - more like a lean-to. He said no access in ceiling. Wall looks barely 100mm thick including plaster with minimal strength. Problem with flappy vent cover is when breeze blowing across it so pressure in house greater than outside as wind gusts so cover raps back - at night, when hearing more sensitive, gets infuriatingly loud so need to add cushioning and even stick a bit of extra weight on it. Had to do this at home - fine tuning to get it to lift when fan blowing but not when wind creating vacuum
Trust me am very aware that it looks crap, the land lord was asked the question about it having no access and they just said get it done with minimal damage for now as the whole bathroom is getting ripped out in 3-4 months 👍
How did you get away with using conduit! Make a hole in the ceiling above the fan push the rod up towards the hatch grab it at the loft hatch, push another rod up at the light towards the hatch.
@@NBundyElectricalYes I watched the video but was hard to see if there was a small void space above. They obviously got the wiring to the existing ceiling batten somehow so maybe there was a small gap above. My god no need im such a rude reply.
Sorry mate, I don’t mean any disrespect, I wanted to chase it but not allowed to trash the walls and would have struggled to make trunking look neat with 2 weird bents
