Let's discuss why you shouldn't need a dysphoria diagnosis to be considered trans, or indeed to transition, and why gatekeeping is counter-intuitive.

The you need dysphoria to be trans thing just made me repress my gender dysphoria until I had a complete mental breakdown. Gatekeeping just doesn't work.

@Boymoder Big Sis⛏️💖 I'm not good but I'm trying to get better now. Which is an improvement I guess. I'm trying to get orchidectomy so I don't have to worry about testosterone anymore.

Wow. I transitioned in my late teens. I had SRS in 2006. I had the dysphoria bad. I tend to project my experience on other trans people and assume people who would transition without my experiences would feel the bad feelings I did, but it sounds like you are ok, I suppose. I'll take your word for it. Interestingly, I had a psychotic break in my 30's. (Women get schizophrenia later than men typically) So I'm both post op trans woman and diagnosed schizophrenia now. I honestly do worry about transition causing you dysphoria, but I wouldn't stand in your way. Your life, your choice. For me transition wasn't a "punishment" but my life transitioning was the the happiest of my life. Imo, schizophrenia is harder to deal with, having experienced both. I hope you are happier. I hope it continues to work well for you. And if it ever doesn't, no shame either. Much love. Rock on sister.

Update: I've been doing some research into estrogen and it's effect on schizophrenia symptoms. It appears that low estrogen makes onset of schizophrenia more likely for women and also low estrogen makes antipsychotic meds less effective. I stopped estrogen in 2006 and have been without since then. I'm currently trying to get back on meds. I am planning to get on estrogen as part of my treatment of my schizophrenia. I'm coming at this from the perspective of being unemployed and homeless so there's been some barriers that don't make it as simple as I thought it would be. I don't know how estrogen in male-brain'd people effects severity of symptoms with schizophrenia, but... maybe there's a thing there? I will try and find this youtube comment again some day when I'm back on estrogen at least a couple months and give an update as to whether my symptoms went down in my case from re-starting estrogen. It'll help with bone-health anyway, even if no effect on schizophrenia, so worth a try.

yea, i mean, even a cisman and nonbinary can take hrt if they want to, it helps to prevent balding and soften skin, it's your body and your identity, you have anatomical right to your body, your identity is yours to define

Gender dysphoria: A marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and natal gender of at least 6 months in duration, as manifested by at least two of the following: A. A marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and primary and/or secondary sex characteristics (or in young adolescents, the anticipated secondary sex characteristics) B. A strong desire to be rid of one’s primary and/or secondary sex characteristics because of a marked incongruence with one’s experienced/expressed gender (or in young adolescents, a desire to prevent the development of the anticipated secondary sex characteristics) C. A strong desire for the primary and/or secondary sex characteristics of the other gender D. A strong desire to be of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s designated gender) E. A strong desire to be treated as the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s designated gender) F. A strong conviction that one has the typical feelings and reactions of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s designated gender) The condition is associated with clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Specify if: A. The condition exists with a disorder of sex development. B. The condition is post-transitional, in that the individual has transitioned to full-time living in the desired gender (with or without legalization of gender change) and has undergone (or is preparing to have) at least one sex-related medical procedure or treatment regimen-namely, regular sex hormone treatment or gender reassignment surgery confirming the desired gender (e.g., penectomy, vaginoplasty in natal males; mastectomy or phalloplasty in natal females). *You don’t need gender dysphoria to be trans.*
