In this video, professional golfer Sophie Walker takes a closer look at the Cobra King Speedzone and Mizuno ST200 drivers, to find if it is really worth spending £500 on a new driver, comparing it directly to the TaylorMade SIM Max driver. Can you get the same performance from cheaper alternatives?
This video was shot on-course at Houldsworth Golf Club and the indoor testing took place at LSH Auto Car Garage in Stockport.

I must say I found this interesting, at 62 with arthritis since getting a Cobra King f8 9.5deg 60Reg shaft im driving a carry of 220 to 240, since buying 2 years ago ive gone from a 21 to 14 handicap, i think mainly due to to drive being longer, drawing and straighter, im now looking to get the speedzone Xtreme because of this video, thank you

Thank you for your review Sophie, it was interesting to see how each Driver performed. For the price-conscious golfer, there are always cheaper alternatives away from the Big4 Brands if you are prepared to look around. One of my playing partners recently bought a brand new Cleveland Launcher driver for £160 and easily keeps up with my PXG GEN2 and the price difference is alarming!

For me THE question is : "Who needs a driver ?" All too often, we forget that the aim of the first shoot is to be in the best position for the 2nd shoot. And in that sense a 3 wood or a hybrid is much safer. I now play commonly under 20 when I hardly scored 25 with my driver. Honestly, I wonder if it's appropriate to recommande a driver for average golfers.

I've got the Mizuno ST200G. Best driver I've owned. It launches low spin bombs! Highly recommend!

Great review, Sophie! I always like to see your tests, because our numbers are quite similar. Although it always looks like a lot more work for me to hit the ball the same distance as you do! I need your nice smooth tempo.

You can try 8.5 degree loft for the ST200, maybe? I saw the ball flight was 20ft higher compare to the others.

One wonders if all those aerodynamic features are effective at the lower swing speeds of most club golfers. Neither Cobra or Mizuno are in the budget Driver class in OZ . Can you test the Cleveland HB Launcher Turbo and Wilson Launchpad with a swing speed of 85 mph, preferably with the higher loft options for those players who need more spin to keep the ball in the air for longer.

Good interesting test. Is the Sim Max comes with shaft fitted for you versus the other test clubs? May have bearing on your ball striking with them.

I think that seems to be a common thread in the comments. If you were spinning too high in the 200g, did you fiddle with the stock shaft and did you change the adjustable weights? I have found 50 yards difference in carry between settings 👀

Compare them against the Cobra F9. You can get the F9 cheap. I bpought a brand new (black/white version) with a Tensei AV Blue 75 stiff for £174 before christmas.

Nothing wrong with Cobra and Mizuno. I have owned drivers from both manufacturers in the past. Spend the savings on a good after market shaft or a lesson.

I'm surprised after your first drive with the ST200G that you didn't start hitting the ST200 on course since the ST200G performed so much better outside maybe the ST200 would have too.

I think the people who write what features are in a golf club head are the same that write wine reviews. Very creative writers. Sofie you presented very well though. I’m a grip it and rip it sort of guy. Sound like they are a company that deals with erectile dysfunction. Greater performance, longer, straighter, great looking head. Or is that just me.

What is the point in a test like that without getting fit to your best stock shaft first? If that wasn’t done then it’s pointless. I have found the Mizuno ST200g to be awesome fitted with my Accra shaft.

Are you addressing the ball with the heel of the driver to encourage a swing that goes outside and drops to the inside?

£150 cheaper? Speedzone sells for £349, Sim for £429. Wish channels would stop referring to RRP and just use the actual prices that stores sell them for.
