DOC HOLLYWOOD Filming Locations - A Return To Grady 22 Years Later 

During the part with the running scene when Michael J. Fox is running to get his pig back, he runs past an old man. That's my grandfather! :) He was actually the mayor during that time.

I am heading to the US for the first time in October and one of my trips will be to " Grady " , ever since 1991 my vision of a beautiful small town USA has been from this movie , especially the scene when Michael J Fox is walking around the town after the dance / festival and kids are playing in the street, and he walks past that group of people watching a old movie projected on a brick wall. That scene has stuck with me for now over 30 years It's been a dream to do that exact walk at night , as MJF did. Probably makes no sense to most but I have to do it !

This movie is very special to me. I watched it for the first time in 1995, and since that first time, I wanted to know the filming locations (but just recently I found out about Micanopy). I had a copy of this movie on VHS and watched it many times during my childhood and adolescence. Today I am doctor, and I became a doctor, for the most part, inspired by the character Ben Stone. Today I also work in a small town and often find myself in situations very similar to those narrated in the film. I didn't get any pig, but they already brought me chickens and a goat =). "Doc Hollywood" was filmed in Micanopy, FL. About 10 miles south of Gainesville, FL, exit 374 on I-95. I lived there for a few years in the early 2000's and it's a really picturesque place. The Phoenix family owns a ranch in the vicinity, and River's ashes were scattered there. One of Central Florida's undiscovered gems, another being Cedar Key.

I just visited there this afternoon, living an hour away in The Villages. We love that movie. It's really neat to walk through town and see the views from the movie. Some of the buildings are now somewhat in disrepair. For the record, the locals pronounce the city "mick-an-OH'-pee."

Thank you for making the return to Grady video. As,a resident of Grady (Micanopy ) it was a pleasure to watch and relive some of the scans of the movie. My father was the mayor of Micanopy during the filming of the movie, in fact he was located in many scenes including the parade scene, he was the middle man carrying the flag. Dad had 5or 6 scenes in the movie.

Fun fact: my father worked on the green truck and the 3 Porsches that were used for different scenes in this movie. In the scene where the truck driver hits the Porsche, that car was 100% original and real. So sad.

I'm astounded at how well you retraced the actual location scenes of Doc Hollywood around Micanopy, FL. I did the same thing around 1998 and I have to say, you did a better job than I did. Hat's off.

I was 8 years old when I was in this movie so it's hard to remember but I think that's me and my brother running with sparklers around Michael J fox at 12:23. Thanks Robert you're awesome!

hey guys.. I love the Doc Hollywood video. I'm actually from gainesville and the entire cast and crew stayed at the hotel I was working at. I got to be an extra on the day they shot the scene of mjf walking out of the hospital to see the town waiting for him. I was standing right next to Melvin. I also got pictures with mjf and Julie and a few others.. I have some great trivia about the behind the scenes stuff if you want to hear it.

Actually watching Doc Hollywood right now. 4/4/16 @7pm in New York. Absolutely love this movie. Thanks for showing us the behind the scenes. Awesome!

I am SO glad you did this. Took me years to figure out Micanopy (sp?), and I finally got a chance to visit there a few years ago. Love this movie, was completely in love with Lou, and I still love it to this day. And I love visiting old movie sites, so this is just fantastic. When asked how I’m doing, to this day I still respond “Couldn’t be happier if I were twins.” Great great great.

We went to the fall festival in Micanopy yesterday and did not know anything about the history of the town. Stumbled across this video today and it was really cool watching this after being in Micanopy yesterday. Thanks!

just watched Doc Hollywood last night, it's in my DVD collection...I really like your videos...watched several of them...keep up the good work.

The very first location adamthewoo shows in this vid is the highway frontage of my families farm, I still live here, and I lived here when they filmed this scene. It took most of a day for just a few seconds of screentime. The memorable part is way before they shot this scene, they contacted my father(owner of the property) and offered $300 if he would sign a contract that says they can bring there trucks and stuff onto our property to shoot the scene. It also kinda said they can come back anytime and etc...blah blah blah. My dad turned it down... So the day they were shooting we were standing on our property and using a video camera and looking, and an on-site producer came and intimidated us into leaving... oh well, my dad should have accepted the contract... nothing bad would have happened. I still have a hand held stop sign they left on the ground after they left.

Loved, loved, loved it!!!! Being a South Carolinian, I am proud of the small town heritage of such places , great movie and GREAT VIDEO dedicated to "Doc Hollywood" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always liked this movie I saw it in the theater when it came out. I can't believe I'm just discovering the movie location was Micanopy FL. I went thru there everyday when I lived in Cross Creek. I'm in WV now ..but I need to go back and check it out, with a different eye..Hat's off to Adam and his pal...good job. Great detective work scouting out the locations..good MjF impersonation too.

Did you know all the lake scenes and the exterior shots of Mike's cabin were filmed at Shands Boy Scout Reservation. The cabin was just a three sided prop building, no interior. In the 90s as a Boy Scout I had camped there quite often and there is a signed picture of MJFox in the Camp's trading post, at least there used to be. We would canoe that lake and for many years that 3 sided cabin was still there after the movie.I have a great story about that "cabin".

I'm from Gainesville and was in this movie as a background actor when I was a little boy. This takes me back, I'll never forget the experience of being in a movie. I remember having a food fight with David Ogden Stiers. He was such a great guy as he would eat lunch with the background actors and mingle and play with all the kids, R.I.P. David. Love the video great work guys.

At 11:57, that house was a friend on mine's Bed and Breakfast before she passed away. I got to meet Micheal while he was filming the movie. I was working on the property and laying down new cedar chips on the driveway.

Watched Doc Hollywood last night ,still like that movie after all these years .

I live like 20 mins away from Micanopy. Awesome going there and shopping but also being in all of these historic filming locations.

I think I’ve watched this film 500 times ‘ what’s the matter with me , I’m 65 years old married with three sons , a carpenter , wife a school teacher and been together since 14 , house payed for , loverly pensions but absolutely addicted to this film , it makes me so happy 😀 oh I’m from Brighton U.K.

Adam another historical item is this town is where River Phoenix lived as a kid and where from where I have heard his remains were laid to rest.

I lived in Orange Lake which was the next town. I remember when they did that movie. The towns there are like two miles long,so small. The area is Great for the breeding thoroughbreds. They have farms all over.They also have this pretty cool Pet Cemetery on the way to Gainesville. Kinnan Rawlings Home this is a Museum that's pretty close by. I always like visiting it..

Looks like a great ol country town and those houses and buildings still look in good shape after all these years. Good video.

I've been to the place in Florida, it is down this long road that has nothing but trees, it is out in the sticks pretty much and most of it was, might not be now,saw it in 2003, but most of it was antique shops.

we went to the town and the business's are for sale , ask local cafe about town and they knew nothing about movie ,was before they were there, town is very quiet and peaceful but businesses on main street have let their buildings depreciate so much. all in all it's worth the stop
