I'm just worried how a space station with no propulsion is going to stop before it hits the planet it's heading for. A lot of exposition for new viewers, I hope it worked, it was ok, the Dancing in the 2nd epidos e was a bit OTT, who cares
This was one of my least favorite episodes in a long while. I gave up on Chibnall who after series 11 so a bad episode then was like the sun rising in the morning. But I expected better from Russel. Such a sloppy episode 1 with a premise so childish I felt like I watching Disney Jr and wondered if I was too old to be watching Dr Who still. The dialogue and exposition between Ruby and the Doctor I found to be incredibly clunky and forced. Don’t like how Ruby comes pre packaged with standard companion traits after knowing the Doctor for like a day. If not for Devils Chord premiering the same day and being a fantastic episode, I think I would’ve given up on this season here and now. About 15 and Ruby, I feel like the actors have great chemistry but the dialogue has not felt natural to me. I assume 15 is just the type of Doctor who is very affectionate and bonds with people quickly, but I’m not sure why Ruby is acting like she’s known him her whole life. I even felt this to a lesser degree in Devils Chord. I’m sold on these actors, 15 carries the weaker stuff from this era so far, but Ruby feels like Rose lite to me.
That baby one was just stupid. The other episodes are on Max, and then the earlier ones are not found with the current ones they are all over the place in Disney's stupid streaming service.
Space Babies was (for me) potentially the worst episode since 2005 with the only possible competition heing Oprhan 55. This new season as a whole so far feels a lot like Season 24 of the classic show (my least favourite) so a bit worried. Hopefully this week's will be better
Been judging it myself. Did my wife sit through it. Yes. She hadn't really been interested since Matt Smith left. As with yourself, it's a good deal of scene setting.
That comment about your wife sitting through it is key. A subset of diehard fans will be turned off by the "theatrics" but they aren't significant in terms of overall viewing figures. I think the fans will be rewarded for sticking with it, but the hope is that a lot of casual viewers will be sucked in along the way.
We're only two episodes in, but this seems to be the most significant tonal/stylistic shift since at least the revival. Possibly ever. It was definitely not what I was used to or expecting, but it held my attention. The uncanny valley mouths on the babies were a tiny bit off-putting for me, but I did enjoy the episode.
As an addendum...I *wanted* to hate it, as soon as I heard the title. The fact that I didn't probably says something for the underpinnings of the writing. Like you, my preference would be for more adult-ish oriented science fiction, but I just couldn't hate it. Also, it's *very* RTD to have a fart joke as a plot point...
If RTD says Doctor Who is meant to be an antidote to the seriousness of current affairs, why is so much of their promotional interviews etc focused on social and political issues?
I'm great wi the stories , but the High School musical element... they can keep it fer the house of mouse. P.S. I love the Bogey man being made of bogies. Arthur C Clarke never dared go there. Nice one .
Babies running a baby factory? Nah, didn't enjoy that at all. Too much exposition verbiage downloading chunks of the programs history. Cluky, didn't feel natural, so I shut it down, went out and touched the grass per directions.

I know you Yanks are a thin-skinned bunch, but this is "Orcs are Racist" levels of intentionally induced misery.

I thought I was watching retconned Daleks in their infancy......baby Daleks.....baleks.....a load of baleks.......which just about sums up this shitshow....
This is my subjective feelings about this reboot, I found it tedious, uncreative and boring, lecturing once again, badly acted, badly scripted simply a platform for rtd to explore his own pecidilos kinks and obsessions and confuse those peculiarities with mainstream tastes and opinions and entertainment. Since it has abandoned mainstream tastes it's become not inclusive but exclusive for the majority of fan's. In effect it's no longer Dr who its made for a minority taste. I think I won't bother with it in future as far as I'm concerned the show ended with capaldi. I think rtd is incapable of writing anything that isn't gay or camp and that isn't most of us. Before anyone says I'm I'm homophobic, racist or a misogynist I've a gay brother a black cousin and am in love with a woman ie part of a majority culture. I wouldn't mind a bit of the message if it was subtle it isn't the msg now takes precedence over good stories. Rtd is like the stamp collecter or train spotter you don't want to sit with for too long as all they want to do is talk about their stamp collection or the flying Scotsman train in the end all you just want to get away from them and out of the room and away from them. That's the problem with obsessions they turn destructive and often end in tradgedy. So rtd is off in search of his own great white whale to slay and replace it . That great white whale appears to be majority tastes. As said that's my subjective opinion but I believe it's a majority one held by all fan's, my gay brother loved Dr who but even he doesn't like the agendas being set by rtd as he would like myself prefer to be entertained. I watched with my 14 year old nephew who also loves Dr who his opinion was can we watch something else this is no good. He wants to see daleks, ice warriors, cybermen and have a good time, he wasn't interested in anyway so I don't think it's going to appeal to young people either. This reboot is the emperor's new clothes and all the critics are telling the emperor how finely dressed he is. Rip Dr who. Dead on arrival killed by personal obsessions.
