Sad thing was that Bernard was supposed to be in this ep but sadly passed away before any could be shot - this was noticed in the second special documentary.

Okay so if you go back and rewatch the timeless child reveal there was a part where you saw a old film of on screen there were different faces of the doctor that were not known faces of the doctor back in Tom Baker's era. That entire timeless child thing was the explanation that they were planning on giving multiple times before and they even hinted at in Tom Baker's era. Ace was supposed to become a timelord if they had continued the series like that was their plans at the time that it was canceled. Granted they obviously never went with that considering what modern episodes have shown however they did take those two strings and weave them together with the modern show to incorporate it in as the timeless child. The Celestial Toymaker was a 4 part serial from tge Hartnell era. It was written by Brian Hayles, who created the Ice Warriors. Due to the purges of old episodes, only Part 4 of the story survives. He was meant to return for a story with the 6th Doctor, but Michael Grade put the show on hiatus and the serial was cancelled in favour of Trial of a Time Lord. In Revelation of the Daleks, the Doctor concludes with the line "I'll take you to Blackpool", with Blackpool cut off cause the hiatus kicked in by the time of the broadcast.

14:31 Whatever he wants. The Toymaker is the single most terrifying villain in Doctor Who. Maybe tops in all of scifi. He cannot be killed, trapped, outsmarted, tricked...his only weakness is luck and the requirement to play by the rules. Which means the normal toolbox for The Doctor is out the window and he has to abide by the same rules. Hence why a game of catch decided the fate of the planet.

NPH was inspired casting as the Celestial Toymaker.

Here's the thing--we always have "two doctors." They're a string of pearls stretched out in a long line through history. Sometimes they double up and there's a multi-doctor ep, but they are ALWAYS there. It's just that they usually stand in one long queue. This time they are standing side by side. Usually each one closes the story of the one before. This time--it's like the next one arrived, ready to go, starting his own story--but the prior one didn't go. Refused to end. David's Doctor, a bit like Clara, made it to the end...and now he's living in his "last second" for as long as he likes. He can use his new reprieve to let Ncuti's Doctor pick up the narrative, just as usual--but David can linger on and do rebab out of order. Apparently Davies wants this to be a domino-event--where David and Ncuti bigenerate, it travels through all the Doctors, starting dozens of secondary time lines. Every Doctor has bigenerated, and there are hundreds of sub-generations in hundreds of sub-universes. A real Whoniverse, just like Marvel's Multiverse gives us dozens of Spidermen in dozens of secondary realities. Davies can now tell any story he likes about any Doctor he can imagine. The Fugitive Doctor is perfectly logical. Every doctor is part of a giant trickle-down therapy project. Capaldi's Doctor can go back and RESCUE River. Or David's can. Now what we need is to give River back her own regeneration ability....in at least some worlds. We can have a UNIT spin-off with Rose, and the Doctor dropping by for shop-talk every so often, like the old days when 3 was exiled and worked out of UNIT with the Brigadier. Any story. Any Doctor Davies can imagine. Any relationship you long to see redeemed somehow, somewhere.

OH!!! Did you catch the line the Toymaker said when they sat down to play cards? "I made a jigsaw out of your history. Did you like it?" Is that the beginning of the Timeless Child rewrite?

The Giggle was perfect. This was truly the first of these specials that felt like a celebration of 60 years of Doctor Who. I loved the framing device of John Logie Baird and the invention of television. Really reminded me of that episode from series 2 about Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. It had all these great callbacks and mentions to so many characters, most if not all of whom are no longer accessible to the Doctor like Amy and Rose Tyler. Is it wishful thinking to hope that no mention of Martha means Freema Agyeman will pop up again soon? Even though it's very clear that she wasn't mentioned because she lived a happy life and their story didn't end tragically. Neil Patrick Harris was fantastic! I loved the switching of accents. Evil camp is always fun, especially when it’s as sinister as this was. And the “Spice Up Your Life” dance sequence. I still have no idea what the hell bi-generation means. I mean we heard from all the Doctors previously in the reboot that regeneration was super dodgy but making a whole new one is not a twist I was expecting! But this establishes that in a one-on-one-hundred-million-billion-billion chance, Time Lords can reproduce asexually. However how many times can the Doctor make a copy of themselves? The end fight with the Toymaker had the frenetic pace of Ten's fight with the Sycorax way back in 2006. I loved Ncuti’s energy. He really felt like a showman, much more than the other Doctors previously. And because they said he processed his trauma, Fifteen seems like he’s going to be a Doctor who is having fun and not haunted by his dark deeds or running from something. Which is a Doctor RTD never gave himself the chance to write. It's like Fourteen was supposed to go on this journey of trauma healing and at the end regenerate into the happy and fun Fifteen but the Toymaker got in the way. And it looks like we have another RTD mystery box on our hand with The Meep’s boss still left unanswered and now the Toymaker’s “The One Who Waits.” Let’s face it, it’s probably The Meep’s boss. I love that Fourteen’s costume got split between the two so Fifteen spends the entire episode in underwear! But because he got the shows, not only does Fourteen speed the entire 3rd act barefoot and commando, which is hilarious in and of itself, Fifteen feels even more naked. Donna’s “Do you come in a range of colors” is perfect because it addresses Ncuti’s blackness without making it a big deal. _Because It’s not!_ I love that they let Ncuti keep his true accent. I love that we didn’t have to say goodbye to Tennant again. Not really. That scene of him having lunch with Donna's family, really his family, was just perfect and I'm happy that his last words are technically “I’ve never been so happy in my life." You can really hear Tennant’s Scottish accent on “wheelchair accessible.” It really feels like they are setting up a UNIT spin-off. And I am here for it! I need it to be Kate, Shirley, Mel, and the Vlinx, whatever the hell that is, and maybe Osgood (fingers crossed). The Doctor’s bi-generation means that if Michael Sheen ever played the Doctor (hopefully as Sixteen) then Sheen and Tennant (as Fourteen) can share the screen.

Such a great episode and finale to the Anniversary Special 😀 that bi-generation was insane lol glad they went this way with it.... must mean they have plans for Tennant still (or at least I hope they do)

A really popular theory about the bi-generation is that it's basically a time-loop. Basically 14 made it's life on earth with Donna and healed itself. In the end of his life he regenerate/disappear and become 15. At this moment he was directly sent in time during the bi-regenation scene. 15 say that "I am fine because you fixed yourself" and convince himself to stay on earth (timeloop) and Donna say that 15 is older than 14. So basically 15 come from the future after 14 fixed himself. And the Tardis is not a copy but the Tardis from the future.

Just to clarify; The Doctor is very much a Time Lord, but is not necessarily Gallifreyan (I have thoughts on this, too). Gallifreyans don't all become Time Lords, either. Generally, only those exposed to the energies of the Untempered Schism gain the power to regenerate (River was conceived inside of a TARDIS known to malfunction, Jenny was regenerated by the Genesis energy). The Doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman, was Gallifreyan but never became a Time Lord, for example.

I would love to see NPH do the Toymaker again. The problem is that The Toymaker is such a dangerous villain you have to use him sparingly.

The Giggle was a crazy special for sure, but I really liked it. It was both Weird & Wonderful. 🃏❤ I loved Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker. Teared up a little seeing the Doctor so happy at the table scene. It was heartwarming to get a happy ending.

I think they may be setting up a Unit spinoff with Donna working there #14 can pop in now and then totally separate from the main show.

This was so awesome! There is a video where Russell discusses what he himself calls "the DoctorVerse". It's definitely worth a watch! The future is looking really bright!!!

One thing about this episode that bothers me is that they say he's never had this before but he literally had decades with his wife on a planet... Yes it was just one person however who knows if they had a child during that time or not. Who knows how many people came over and visited them from throughout their timelines...

I don't know why, but I got frustrated while watching lackluster parts of this episode, and other reactors. But watching your reactions made this entire episode fun.

1014 might be doing a Pertwee to be the occasional “on call” Doctor advisor for the UNIT spin off. Donna got a sweet job offer, and it would make sense to use 14 for the spin off. He even made a point of reminding Shirley that he was science advisor number one in The Star Beast. Of course, the main series UNIT involvement would be with 15, but I’m sure UNIT has a system of figuring out which Doctor they’re working with at any given time. Shirley thought she was talking to 10 at first, but was aware of 11-13.

"Is that Missy in there?" Why would it be Missy with a male laugh? Missy wasn't even the last Master we had, either. I feel like if the Master's brought back, though, it'll be a new iteration. Or Simm, because RTD just genuinely can't ever let things go.

Good news - season 1 for Ncuti is already filmed and they have recently started season 2 filming. Rumours are season 1 will air May time next year.

I think Tennant will come in but rarely. The point is for him to rest. 15 is the end result of the rest Tennants' Doctor takes. If he's still full on adventuring he's not resting.

The toymaker caused the bigeneration (Tennant says it himself) 'The game of the time lords - kill one and duplicate over and over' Like how the Salt thing was a myth AND a rule last special, the toymaker made the myth of bigeneration a rule so he could keep killing and playing with the doctor, but they dual challenged him before he could kill either one. David's reward was to banish the toymaker - Ncuti's was the duplicate the TARDIS (the lingering effects of winning).

Theory #1 - 14 goes into rehab and later becomes 15 by refusing Theory #2 - 14 Goes into rehab and continues prime timeline, and 15 softboots Disney timeline, With Disney changing it back to series 1 rather than series 14... I tend to believe Theory #2 is most plausible to me. Also RTD announced no master for next 3 seasons.. but meh this is RTD we're talking about here.

Tennant will not be returning as 14. RTD has no plans and let’s be honest - David has returned enough, he shouldn’t be the one to always save the franchise with spontaneous returns or appearances. That is 14 over and out, as confirmed by RTD himself.

been wondering... if 1014 dies now after he has bi-generated, will he regenerate into 15? bi-generate into 15? or regen/bi-gen into a whole new doctor? bi-generation seems to have introduced a very chaotic element hahahah edit: why has RTD does this to my brain? LOL

I'm assuming that the doctor is the only one that can bi generate. I'm assuming you would have to have a pure whatever the doctor is and not just a mutated whatever else that has been altered with the doctor's DNA. I'm assuming that this happened once before and I'm assuming that that is how the Master was created. The doctor and the master are the two that are pure whatever the doctor is everything else is just mixed with the doctor's DNA. That's the reason why the time Lords are so scared of the master and the doctor.

I have a fan theory. Ncuti Gatwa is not the 15th Doctor, he is the First Doctor. The original Doctor that we all know and love has retired to live the quiet life. The bi-generation created a whole new person that is The Doctor, but still fresh and without the trauma of the past weighing down his soul. This makes him the “First” in a whole new line of Doctors yet to come.
