The ring falling off Jodie Whittaker's finger is actually a representation of Peter Capadi's REAL wedding ring. In the early days, when his acting career wasn't going "as planned"...ie.. he was struggling from role to role... his wife supported him.. so, when he finally got a break, he vowed he'd never take his wedding ring off for any role. And he never has.

My theory regarding Jodie Whittaker's first words as The Doctor is pretty straightforward, but, storywise, the significance is kind of profound. We might recall that close to the end of Peter Capaldi's tenure, his Doctor was blinded. At the end of "Oxygen", he lies to Bill about having his sight restored, then confides with Nardole that he may have lost his vision permanently. Fast forward to the regen from 12 to 13, and some of the first moments of Jodie's tenure are seen through 13's POV, indicating that said regen has restored The Doctor's eyesight. Cue reaction and "Oh, brilliant".
@DEEJAYWAL
@DEEJAYWAL 6 лет назад
Yes, definitely “Oh, brilliant”. Possibly a bit hard to make out as she said it in her natural Northern accent. A certain Mr Eccleston is very pleased that another Doctor comes from there.

Yup! It's going to be a little hard for me going forward, only because I'm not familiar at all with how they talk in Yorkshire. Had no problems understanding the Scots; Amy Pond came across clear as a bell, and I only needed captions for Peter's 12th Doctor a few times, no more than for most British folks on TV. I'm looking forward to Jodie, but I hope that getting confused by the likes of "Aubrey Ent" is a rare occurrence.

I'm surprised how many callbacks we had here. Lethbridge-Stewart was a good one, Clara was okay (even though Hell Bent still pisses me off to no end!), the brandy fridge in the TARDIS I thought was only gonna be a one off and the addition of Rusty (I honestly thought it was gonna be Davros) was a nice touch. Everything was so well knit together and I really enjoyed it. We even got an in universe explanation on why the First Doctor's face is different and why the TARDIS Police Box exterior has evolved! Overall, this is just great. I'll never forget it.

Some people said she's not that good in TV Shows. But actually, I don't think she's bad at all, and that's more because she had to lose her accent, kinda restraining her acting. She acted in the play Antigone with Eccleston, keeping her accent, and she's really great in it. That literally convinced me she has what it takes to be the Doctor. Already a good point for Chibnall for letting her keep her accent, the acting is already secured. Now to wait and see for the writing.

Jodie's performance in Broadchurch made me a little concerned when she was cast as the Doctor, I'm afraid. I didn't like her performance there, but we'll see. I *was* kind of hoping that if they were going to get a female actor from Broadchurch, that it would be Charlotte Rampling (Jocelyn Knight), but oh well. Can't have everything.

Great reaction and review video, guys! I enjoyed the Christmas Special for what it was. Nitpicks: the First Doctor was not that chauvinistic in the original series. That was disrespectful. But coming from the judgemental overthinking Millenial era we live in, I wasn't surprised by it. Apart from that, David Bradley did a great job as the First Doctor. Loved the reveal about who the officer was. This will definitely be my final Christmas Special and where I get off the ride. BritBox, DVDs, and books, here I come. Bye, bye, New Who. Thanks for the memories.

The overnights put the viewing figures at between five and six million! Think about it. This was one of the most hyped shows of the fucking year, never mind the Christmas period, and more people watched repeats in the 1970s than this 'event'. The writing is on the wall and it says THE END.
@shymike
@shymike 6 лет назад
All TV programmes don't get as many viewers as they did in the 70 s and 80s, due to other media being widely available - have a look at the audience a programme like the Morecambe and Wise show used to get compared to the highest viewed today
@blastfromthepast8344
@blastfromthepast8344 6 лет назад
True. However, I would have expected it to get far more viewers than it did, considering that it's a pivotal episode being broadcast early evening on Christmas Day - traditionally the most popular day with TV viewers. I suppose it just goes to show the extent to which Moffat and Capaldi have turned viewers off and how the arrival of a new 'female' Doctor is about as exciting as watching a chocolate reindeer melt.
@ms_scribbles
@ms_scribbles 6 лет назад
I'm not sure it's Capaldi's fault, really, since the downturn in the viewing figures have been going on since Matt Smith was still playing the Doctor. This is obviously all Moffat's doing. "The Eleventh Hour" started at 10 million, and by "The Name of the Doctor", it was down to about 7 million. And regeneration stories are usually huge. For example, both episodes of "The End of Time" got over 12 million viewers.
@blastfromthepast8344
@blastfromthepast8344 6 лет назад
No, not blaming Capaldi. It is all Moffat's fault - hack sitcom writer that he is. Usually the Christmas 'specials' get more viewers than the following or preceding series. That this one performed so badly cannot be seen as anything but a bad omen. There really is no excuse for such poor ratings on a Christmas Day. I predict average viewing figures of 2 million next year, then it's goodbye Doctor. THE END.

Jodie Whittaker's first words were "Oh, brilliant". Take it from this Yorkshire woman. Don't forget to subscribe to subtitles! I love you guys' reaction when the Doctor remembered Clara. The only time you were both speechless! And the Captain is not the same man as the Brigadier. My theory was proven right. I read that it was to go some way towards explaining why the First Doctor left our TV screens during The Tenth Planet storyline, only to return to the TARDIS much later to regenerate in front of Ben and Polly. Moffat likes to tie up loose ends. I don't know why others didn't see it. Merry Christmas.

The episode with all of its acting, writing & music were "FANTASTIC ...and you know what? So were you!" (- 9th ;-D) I love that they didn't ruin Nardole's & Bill's solid & Clara's okay send offs & yet 12 was able to see them again! The perfect pieces of Murray Gold's mesmerizing music at the perfect moments... WOW! I absolutely love how they tied up "The Tenth Planet" & David Bradley's way of making you forget that this is him/that it's not William Hartnell & you just instantly see ...well simply THE DOCTOR, makes me speechless. The battlefield scenes, the 'Good Luck!'s/ 'Good Bye!'s - seriously made me shed some tears! Last but definitely not least: Jodie's performance gives me hope for lots of fun soon to come & is perfectly described by her first line: *"OH, BRILLIANT!"* Thanks for this video!

OK will admit to getting a little misty eyed during Peters final speech, did they say what the tape was about?

They kinda pulled a Matt Smith, with the built up regeneration energy running out of control and causes the TARDIS to explode and regenerate as well as dumping the new Doctor out of it.

I think 12's monologue to the new doctor shows his character arc in terms of what he learned along the way, for example always being merciful, which he learned when helping the young Davros.. he came a long way from the "Doctor Grumpy" that we saw in Deep Breath...

I loved it, and I love 12's final speech. I will miss Capaldi, I don't think Moffat did him justice for the most part, but there was still some brilliant times. Jodie looks amazing, I love her energy. I am new to your channel. Hello!
