Obviously the UNIT solider isn't Mike Yates. No, it's his identical twin brother, Tike Yates. He was originally a fisherman, but was later convinced by his brother to join UNIT (after the latter was fired).
Not-Yates really should’ve just been a Zygon figure. That ‘unit soldier’ is just bizarre. Plus a Zygon would make it such a more ‘complete’ Terror set.
They could have got away with re-releasing the Brigadier in the same outfit with the cap head as he wears that costume in later episodes of Zygons so is accurate... but having the UNIT solider is good for army building an opposition to the likes of Daleks and Cybermen which we have a lot of...
I've got a story for the figure. Mike Yates had a twin brother who wanted redeem the yates family after the betrayal of his brother but sadly is killed by the Kriniod in the Seeds of Doom 😆
Mike Yates, disgraced former UNIT Soldier was recruited by a secretive organization to protect Queen and Country, as well as the entire planet. Mz. Tyler said thusly: “You made mistakes MrYates. You effed up, royally. People died. But you stood for what you believed in - the environment. Our organization is made up of former disgraced soldiers who want a second chance...some a third or fourth. You will swear your allegiance. You will train hard. And then you will disguise yourself and go forth into the world and defend your planet...our oath: Reinforce, Observe, Secure, and Execute if necessary. We are Earth Defense!
Another brilliant review here, I agree with everything you've said about the Fourth Doctor variant, the sculpt is perfect but the paint apps let it down. It's just nice to have a figure that we needed for the Season 13 shelf too
That's great to hear! Anyway, about the figure set, I might skip this one as, it's similar to the Claws of Axos set (minus the brigadier). I'm more interested in the other sets in the line. But, unfortunately, my local B&M won't have any of these in stock so, it'll be game over for me =(.
Bloody hell got the waistcoat and tie right, finally! Passing on set, tom Baker only wears this costume for a bit despite how cool it looks and I'm happy with the last unit set we had
The dufflecoat Tom was the only variant I never had so I pulled his head off and put a normal scarf and head on and popped the scottish gear on a Pyramids coat with the Robot jumper underneath cause I don't rle like this look. Needed the coat tho!
Picked this set up today for £8 in B&M. Originally i was hesitant and went straight to all the Dalek sets. After having them all unboxed the 4th Doctor is fantasic! Definitely worth £20 so £8 was a ridiculous bargain and im so pleased i now didnt let this one fizzle out before deciding to get it.
Good review. I saw this in B&M last week whilst picking up History of the Daleks #4 and the Tom figure is really good. I'm not sure if it's worth buying, given that I picked up the Axos set earlier in the year...
I love this set, and I think the re-use of Yates as "UNIT soldier" is fine - a re-colour of his beret might do for a "Battlefield" set at some point...
I thought I would hate this set but I actually love it. I just think the obviously captain Yates died his hair brown and waring a fake mustache is a joke. Can you please make it into a meme everytime you want to reference Character,s laziness 😄
I personally love this set, it was the first one of the new batch that I got, though that was because it was the first one my B&M had in stock, but it really is nice. Benton being a sergeant is a bit of a gripe for me, but I feel like we saw him in camo at some point before his promotion, so I can live with that, the figure looks great. Moustasched yates is a bit of a daft figure, and I definitely would have prefered a jumper/cap brigadier, because that's the only brig I don't have, but at the same time moustasche yates is really funny to me, he's daft in the best way, and it's always nice to bump out the unit troops. Like you could display the two yateses, and the camo benton and a brig and it would give yates more a sense of rank being in a different outfit to the other two, it would look really nice. And that tartan tom, I'd have bought it regardless of what they'd packaged it with, it's so nice, I love the trouser paint aps, just really really nice all round. I would say though that there's something a smidge off with the face, and what I think it is, is the face is a little too big for the head, which makes it just look slightly odd in a hard-to-pin-down way. It's still a great likeness though, no two ways about that. my favourite set of the autumn B&Mers, I think.
