NEXT VIDEO SUGGESTION. How to write a winning resume for newbie applicants! Go into; Structure ATS friendliness? What if i have a masters in a different field, should i still include it on my resume? Maybe bring in someone from HR or an agency.. OR... Maybe bring in people from different depts and share their experience working in that dept. Just to get more insight from the horse's mouth. PS. Thanks for the content, always detailed and helpful as usual

Takudzwa, Lucy has already uploaded/published many detailed interviews with crew members, have a look at her videos and playlists. And, she also has a video with a cruise line recruiter / HR person, which deals a good bit with "what it takes" to get a good job on-board. So, all of that you asked for "from the horse's mouth", is already there for you.😀 Further she has detailed both, how-to write a great CV, and "Ace" your employment interview, in her Career Guides on her website. So, there you go....she has already done all you asked for. 😀

Hi ma'am, I wanna ask if Canaveral Cruise UK is Authentic? I just want to be sure before I do my medical? Btw, the immigration ask about the medical and visa fees, but the company didn't ask money, but not much only for visa fees. Thank you, please rply.🙏

Lucy, thanks for such a nice happy video! It makes my week. I love the part about "staying on their radar" and "improving your skills, while waiting to get on-board"...these great pieces of advice work hand-in-hand, and are applicable to job/career on-shore as well as on-board, and I applaud you for highlighting them! And when I heard you mention "scams", I thought maybe this would be a good idea for a brief video of its own, where you can highlight different agencies that are legit and show examples of what scammers try? Any way, thanks again for being so happy! 😀Fair winds!

Hi Lucy, great episode, love your work! That extra bag with your seaman’s book isn’t a random thing. Some airlines offer special Seaman’s fares, where the booking has to be made by the employer’s travel agency in the right way. Once that’s in place, tickets will be issued, usually showing 2PC baggage. Crew will then need to show documentation at check-in, for cross-checking to prevent abuse, usually one of: • Seaman’s book • Cruise line ID • Crew list or sign on/sign off papers • Company authorisation/guarantee letter Especially if you’re being employed by a subcontractor, you should check they’re booking you on a Seaman fare, including for the return journey and that you’ll be entitled to 2PC baggage in both directions, as sometimes they’ll conveniently forget this at the end of contract - cheeky!

Happy to hear about the medical and weight - think I’m about to be offered my first contract and have been worrying as I’m not done with my weight loss journey - let’s hope the doctor I go to is lenient like you suggest they might be 🤞

Good day Lucy, great content as usual. I'm pretty thrilled to learn that I'll be joining the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Company F&B pre-opening team in mid-June. This will be my first ever cruise contract. I just wonder if anyone in this community has any insight into the working and living environment onboard a 'luxurious' cruise? Ritz-Carlton Yacht Company is fairly new to the scene and I haven't been able to find much feedback from crew members' perspective. Cheers, Gav

Gav, congratulations! And, good luck! I cannot speak of "crew living conditions" on their yacht collection / luxury ships, but ironically I have some very close friends that work at Ritz Carlton (at hotel on-shore, not at sea), in office and in F&B department (and they've been working there for years), so I can tell you a few important things that might apply to their "yacht collection"? Just understand that these specifics are all from Ritz Carlton Hotels (on shore), as I don't have any specific knowledge about crew living / working conditions on-board their luxury ships/yacht collection. 1) Good news is, advancement within the company is easy if you're good at your job, and if you have the skills to advance they will encourage you to "move up". And, they pay employees to go to school / take continuing-education-classes, etc. (one of my friends became a sommelier and then advanced to 2nd level certified sommelier, at no cost to her....even though she told them she really wasn't looking to move to that job, they offered to pay thousands of dollars for her classes and gave her paid-time-off to attend all the classes) 2) Also good news is that aside from the strict adherence to the rules and policies, they are very good to their employees in general....they actually care about their mood, mental health, physical health, etc. 3) Although be prepared for long hours and being meticulously "managed" and critiqued (until your manager trusts you, then you should be given the space to grow and succeed). 4) And, they are very strict in their polices/rules (no matter how ridiculous we'd think some of their policies are), and have an almost zero-tolerance-policy for anyone breaking the rules. Basically you get one warning of any offense, and any rule breaking after that you're let go....no excuses accepted. Again, these pieces of info all pertain to Ritz Carlton Hotels (not their yacht collection/luxury ships), but since they are very heavily marketing their "name" and "reputation" for these cruises, I assume they will have similar policies and rules? I hope this helps? Fair winds and good luck!

If American is paying for a job on a cruise ship, do they still need to get that visa you’re talking about? I’m just curious.😊
@captainjohn49
@captainjohn49 7 месяцев назад
David, I assume you meant a US citizen "applying" for a job? If that is your premise, the answer is NO. C1/D visas are "transit" / "crew-member" visas for NON-US-Citizens, allowing them transit thru the US to work on-board a ship or aircraft, and/or work on-board a ship that comes into/out-of the US. (our wonderful US gov't is pretty strict in this regard) For further info/detail, please take Lucy's advice to WAIT until the cruise line, etc. inform you of what other documents you may need (such as whether you will require a Schengen visa or not, Australian visa or not, etc. etc.) I hope this helps? Good luck on your adventure!

Lucy details the answers to your questions in her career guides and in some of her other videos here. The short answer is, this depends on what "job" / department you are looking for ("marine dept", "retail", "hotel", etc.), and also depends on where you are located / where you live (because most cruise lines use recruitment agencies to handle the plethora of applications from many countries). Have a look at her other videos and career guides for the details. Good luck!😀
