I show highlights from the reassembly of the drum brake shoes on my 2001 dodge Dakota. This video was compiled from footage shot while documenting replacement of the parking brake cable, wheel cylinders, brake lines, and highlights from dis-assembly and reassembly of the drum brake shoes and springs. However, I decided to make this a video of its own after reviewing all of the footage I had shot. Check my channel for other videos pertaining to the rear brakes on this truck if you are interested.

I forgot how little things changed between the 60s through the 90s. My Cordoba has the exact same brakes.

Tore my truck apart a while ago. Kinda forgot just exactly how it goes back. This video was good. I will say my 98 dakota sport is just a little bit different.

What my situation is is I purchase a rear end from the junkyard anyway it's a very good rear end it's the same gear duration which is very good cost me $300 well worth it because the truck is running very well and anyway the brake drums are a different size mine are smaller the original ones I should say so anyway your videos perfect because it's exactly what I need to see how to reassemble brake assembly and I want really appreciate the video thank you thumbs up

Thanks for the video. Getting ready to do my truck, nice refresher. As I have done many trailer brakes with vice grips and the like. But I just got a set of brake tools for ten dollars on EBay. Always good to use the right tools.

I don't know if this matters but I have a Ram 1500 everything here seems to be the same except the brake adjuster is on the front shoe. It is clearly marked Front

What size drums do 1999 Dakota's have? I've heard only second first generation has 10 inch drums?

I've put Never-Seez on them in the past but I'm not sure if that was really necessary or even a good idea or not. A A Small amount of high-temp brake grease like NAPA Sil-Glide may be a better choice.

OH YEAH! ANTI-SIEZE WORKS! I use so much of it that on a hot day at a stop light I leave little silver puddles!

I have a Dodge Dakota 2000 V6 sport 3.6L. Which model do u have? Your wheel cylinder has a pin at each end, mine doesn't. I have 9" shoes. Is yours 11"? Am I missing them? Also, my parking brake lever/bar is Dorman pn 21158 & looks different than yours. My Rear Left lever/bar I cant get back into place and will try to remove those 2 springs and more if that's what it takes.

Ok, I have a question? at the top, we have 2 springs and what I will call a batwing clip plus the brake adjuster cable. the hole on the batwing clip and the cable are the same size. and there is a place that fits that hole. but not enough room for both to sit there. what order do I put this back, cable clip springs or clip cable springs?

The cable goes first and then the two springs. (Or at least that's how it is on my 95 Dodge)

There is a brake spring tool you can get that might help.
