dodge friggin stealth turbo...come on man how can you NOT like this car bruh? like foreal 320hp twin turbo bruh awd breh active aero brah best part? you can get one for 3 to 4k cheaper than a mitsu 3k gt vr4
Finally finishing up my Dodge Stealth RT/TT build after years. I have made body panels, went through the entire drive-train, interior, motor. Handmade led infinity tail lights, etc. And did a ton of mods and swaps. I can't wait to bring it to the strip.
I still own a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT , pack a v6 24DOHC 220 HP and strangely, contrary to it's cousin, is very reliable. Does not have the VR-4, turbos and the wheels gimmicks but it's not a money pit either, and it is probably why. The stories I lived with it, a true babe magnet in an era when car meetings was a thing. Today, my main car is a Cadillac ATS awd with 2 kids seat in the back. It would probably would eat my stealth any given day in a 0-100, but strangely I find myself often driving my old black beauty on Sundays. The car is old, a relic like me, can't push it anymore, but it is very much alive and heads still turn to look at it. If you have nostalgia of the 90s or fascinated by that era, I'd say it is very worth it.
It just feels like a perfect bargain, twin turbochargers, four wheel drive, active areo spoiler, pop up headlights and even prices below 5k dollars, what's not to love?😍
Expensive maintenance. Same thing happened with the Z32 Twin Turbo. That's probably why prices for those cars haven't gone stratospheric compared to the likes of FD's, Mk.4 Supras and 90's Skylines
AdriannnTRD >slow Faster stock for stock than a mk4 supra and just as buildable >fall apart from end to end Maintenance is simple as long as you don’t buy a shit one >can’t handle heat They handle heat absolutely fine, no idea what you’re talking about here >pain to work on Easy to work on if you have more than 4 functioning brain cells
@@Soviet_Kitty You're absolutely right, as long the car receives the right mantainance and being used correctly, then there would be no problems at all.
In February of 1992 I was in 11th grade and my mother helped my purchase a new 92 Mitsubishi 3000GT vr4 (same car as this) (no my mom didn’t buy me the car I made every single payment). Anyway the car had a few hiccups that were covered by the warranty. The problem I had was actually the dealership service because when I hit 60k miles back in 2010 I had the 60K service done at the dealership in Brooklyn Ny and because they placed a floor jack right underneath my oil pan, my engine spun the #6 connecting rod bearing. I had to bring a lawsuit to Mitsubishi because they ruined my engine because the oil pickup was completely restricted by the huge dent they put in my oil pan. Anyway I took their lame ass settlement check and added an additional 7grannd out of my pocket and had Ray Pampena build me a bulletproof engine out if my engine with 19T turbos. As of right now I still own this car and I haven’t had a single problem with the car. My message to anyone watching this CHECK THE OIL PAN IF YOURE BUYING A STEALTH OR 3000GT because most likely anyone who did the 60K maintenance didn’t use an engine hoist to raise the engine like the manual says, they used a floor jack. THIS DENT IS A TICKING TIMEBOMB FOR YOUR ENGINE BECAUSE ITS NOT GETTING ENOUGH OIL. The car will function fine under normal driving conditions. As soon as you go into boost or put a load on the engine, it’s gunna wipe out your engine bearings. You can thank me later lol.
I bought a clean 91 model in champagne color my senior year of high school 02, and let me tell you it got all the looks, man I loved that car and I never had a single issue. Now that I'm older i may one day look for one but I do like an old Porsche as well who knows. But as I write this is because my mind is reliving some old memories thanks for the video.
I just bought a 03 grand marquis and I’m tuning it up and I’ve seen a few videos where you mentioned hood modifications you’ve done but was wondering if you could release another video about hoods and grills to put on a marquis/Vic
have a 1994 GTO, i dont regret my purchase what so ever, they is so much fucking misinformation about them, most people know nothing about these cars heres some info on them -these engines ARE reliable, despite what everyone says, they are crazy good in fact, some have pushed it to 1000hp+ (not stock internals obv) -DONT SKIP OUT ON THE 60K/120K WATER PUMP SERVICE its what kills these moters, when a belt snaps, the engine blows. So if you are buying one, make sure its been done -the syncros in the transmission are crappy, its common for them to get worn out around second and third gear -"its heavy" it was faster around the track than most of its competitors while being heavier, also this is a gt car, and is butter smooth on the highway going 250kmh, because of the weight, its a stable car, theres barely any body roll, put on some stiffer sway bars, bam -this car is literaly impossible to spin the tires, its a grip and torque monster and i love slingshotting myself out of corners -electricals are getting really old and are turning bad, they might have some issues in the accesories as most old cars -they are really not that bad to repair on your own, if you have any mechanical skills, you can do your repair yourself, itll cost much less, it just takes time because yes, the engine bay is crammed if you still think they are too heavy for you, swap in a 4g63t, super easy and well documented swap that turns this car into a drag monster make sure they are well maintained, thats all, if not it could have problems if you have any question about these cars, ill try to anwser as much as i can, i want people to know more about these cars and realise their crazy potential
Exactly!!! Your dead on!! Ill add somthing to it though... Great bargains can be found buying ones with those "blown" engines. It the belt snaps, those small stem valves bend easy, so it doesnt even hurt the pistons. So you replace the intake valves n put it back together. No biggie!!
The 94-96 body sucked, it lost all the style. However they upgraded the engine, and transmission. I had a 91 stealth turbo, and it was the biggest money pit I've ever owned. I didn't know alot about them at the time, and what I know now would lead me to buy a scrapper and restore it with a built engine and transmission. The 91-93 in stealth and 3000gt had a crappy cast iron crank, with a extremely weak 18 spline output shaft transmission. In late 93 they switched to a forged steel crank called a 4 bolt engine, from the old 2 bolt, and it was much better. They also went to a 24 spline output shaft which was hardened steel, and a larger diameter. I broke my 18 spline transmission twice taking off! So if I did it again, I'd built a 4 bolt engine, with a 6spd 24 spline transmission, and upgrade all the crap that goes bad such as the ecu, ecs, etc. It was a awesome car regardless, and shined up all blacked out, it received more head turns than any car I've ever own. Sadly it was mostly a driveway ornament lol.
I'm probably gonna be snatching up this '92 R/T here soon. Needs some work and a new windshield, but the price is low enough, I'm bored enough, and have the time to work on it. So hard to say no to that... Unless I can find something just as neat lol
The stealth never came with active aero and the 4-wheel steering was dropped for the 1995-1996 model years, so 95 & 96 vehicles are much simpler than the VR4 in terms of components
@@largejuicer8730 Disagree.. I had a 91 TT.. I would rather have the 96... and frankly the Vr4 lost its all wheel steering REAL quick They are literally the same damn car with different badges. Not sure why people eat on those features the vr4 dropped when they didnt work.. in either badge model
@@dntzonis well my thing is how much more heavy it must be with all of those features and how much wider the 3000 gt is along with the cost to fix those features as you said they were broke most of the time
I have a 1995 Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo. I love the car and have owned it for the last 10 yrs. Its a rare color combo. 1 of 14 Dark Blue Pearl with a Charcoal interior. The car has been great. A few issues but nothing that couldnt be fix. Its been reliable. The only thing is they dont like to sit for very long. They are best when driven. They are a very special car and were the most technologically advanced cars on the road when they were released in 1991. All wheel steering, All Wheel Drive and adjustable exhaust and suspension. No one else had that. If taken care of and maintainance done they are great and reliable cars with the potential to make tons of horsepower. Look up Ray Pampena on RU-vid. He had an 1100 HP VR4. The thing was insane. Oh and the Twin Turbos will do 175 -180mph with little to no mods.
Holding onto my 92 R/T. FWD DOHC. Fiji blue. No rust. I have a 2bolt and a 4bolt TT to swap in. Also a spare FWD 5spd and if that fails a 5spd AWD trans to take over. I just hope that this whole covid thing doesn't take what I have worked so hard for go away. I haven't worked in 6 months. Cheers eh.
I was born in 1984 and grew up in the Metro Detroit Area. When I was a kid in the early 90s I my mom and dad would take my brother, sister, and I to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit at Cobo Hall. It was every January All off worlds car manufactures would show off there latest models for the upcoming year. I was 9 years old in 1993 when I really started getting into cars, and thats when I started the Dodge Stealth. My parents were looking for a new car to by.
@@ManLikeEddyi’ve looked. The ones that go fit cheap are the FWD Stealth’s. The AWD in good condition with low miles, they go for a minimum $15,000. Now that their popularity is easing up, they are DEFINITELY a collectors dream.
Tough to give this a thumbs up... The bad rep is really undeserved. All sorts of cars from all brands had their particular issues. And if you take care of a Stealth/3000 like the $50k sportscar that it is, itll be just fine. Do the 60/120k mslaintenance. Or youll regret it. They arent Hondas... The ECU failure is a thing. It WILL happen. But if youre half skilled with a soldering iron, you can fix it yourself for about $10. Theyre complex cars but anyone with decent skills and a Factory Service Manual (not really optional) can have a car thats reliable and fun!!!
@@MrRandomReviews doesn't stay started but cranks. Took a gamble under your name. You'll either be my blessing or my curse. This is my fourth 3S. The last ones had issues I couldn't deal with when I was younger.
1. Delete the AWS, 3SX has a kit. 2. Swap out for a Jester ECU. 3. Get the 99 GTO oil squirters cause having 3mm oil release holes is better than 1mm. 4. ?? 5. Profit
I know a guy in my local car scene that bought one of these. It was an unmodded 1991 model in white, and recently he put it up for $4k on FB. Don't know if he sold it though, as it does not say if it sold or not. Tragic that he has to let it go,
If you haven't personally owned a 90-05 Mitsubishi you can't account or bitch about the reliability, if you keep fucking oil and coolant in them they don't break. Those people bitching about the reliability about Mitsubishi are the same people that shrug about their car being a gallon low on coolant and drive to Canada from Florida.
Exactly. The Stealths n 3000gts have an undeserved bad rep... Theyre complex, sure, so you have to know what youre doing, and have a FSM... Its not a Honda LOL!!
Base versions are still the best, they last forever, Yeah they don't have the turbos and they don't have all the gadgets but they do have a 3.0 l v6 and they are fun as fuck to drive
Heheh... two of these in my garage right now. *Gotta catch them all....Pokémon* but seriously, parts are so expensive- if you plan on building one, don't buy parts new, just go buy all the shitty, clapped out stealths you can find.
All wheel drive only kicks in after 30 mph. They are cousins but not the same cars. And, there was a great plethora of reasons Dodge stopped making them. 92-94 is the model to own.
Not true. The AWD is full time.. you're thinking of the all wheel steering that works after 30mph.. Signed 93 R/T twin turbo, awd, aws, stealth owner... 😜
@@Murph_OKC yup!! And they really are the same car, not "cousins"... Signed, Owner 92 Stealth RT/TT, 91 Stealth RT(na), 92 Stealth RT (na), 92 3000GT (na), 93 3000GT (na)...
They were literally made by Mitsubishi in Japan. dodge just had them put some different bumpers and lights on the exterior. Otherwise it's literally a 3000gt.
