Does arm pump surgery actually fix the issue of Arm Pump for motocross riders?!
Dr. Steven Andrews is a is an Orthopaedic Upper Limb Surgeon. His practice encompasses surgery of the Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand including Microsurgery. Dr. Andrews has also been a long time Racesafe medical team member and has operated on maybe 60% of all Gypsy Tales guests (maybe a slight exaggeration) and is the reason a lot of riders have been able to keep competing at the highest level after severe injuries.

I gotta tell you, when i was riding i had arm pump on the first lap. One old school motocrosser told me to get a hand exercizer. So i did, and kept it in my work van. I drove a few hours a day and used it in one hand until I pumped, then switched hands amd went back and forth until it just hurt. My arm pump virtually disappeared and both my tendons and forearm grew in size. My hand strength was 100x better than before.

It works but don’t do it mid season or before a race the muscle building process will cause it to pump up When training forearm strength or grip strength put a timer on and do a rep about every second and just push the time further and further each time you work out

I get it within the first 15 minutes then it's gone. I have a cappuccino before gearing up and a tosted egg and bacon roll.

@@jamesdavison5755 Yeah, don't do this in the pits or on the way to the track! 😆 🤣 😂 Do it on your off time. Make forearm and hand strength just as important as any other muscle group. The stronger your hands and forearms are the easier it is.

I'm glad an upper extremity surgeon was on the podcast, but this guy makes his living doing surgical procedures. I was diagnosed with Chronic Compartment Syndrome (C.C.S.) before the pandemic. My CCS tormented me in racing amateur motocross, it became a major issue in fight camps training amateur MMA, then it became a problem in my day to day life. It didn't matter if I was detailing cars, prepping body work parts, or even showering after the gym. I'd drop brushes, rags, sanding blocks, or even my body wash after an upper body workout. I refused to scar my arms before trying everything. Most hospitals weather they be teaching or standard medical care only approve of Grafton and Dry Needle therapy. If anyone read into blood flow and how to increase flow efficiency they'd realize how many procedures maybe weren't the last resort. Your blood serves your body the same purpose as oil does to and engine. Your liver is your filter. Now we can't toss in a new liver but we can eliminate some of the old blood by donating and doing therapeutic phlebotomies, forcing the body to create fresh clean blood that hasn't been run through your liver over and over for years/decades. Because it's an alternative type of therapy that nobody will spend money researching and it could harm the business potential for surgeons working with CCS in upper extremities, it goes under the radar. It never gets brought up anywhere. Since I've been donating every 8 weeks alone, my day to day symptoms have reduced significantly. Boston Children's Hospital wanted to release all 4 compartments in both of my arms. One compartment in each arm was double the standard rate of pressure at which they would recommend a fasciotomy.

Very informative, enjoyed that. Loved the analogies, especially the sausage meat one. 😄 Makes sense when you think of it, forearms become pressure locked.

I use too get arm pump really bad..then my mate who was a coach..Then one day training on a rough sand track and filmed me..the biggest thing is gripping the bars and fighting the bike all the time..changed my style gripped with my legs and loosen my top part of my body..and never had a problem with arm pump after that..it takes practice even standing on the pegs around big sweeping burms it all helps

I've been riding for years, and always have extremly big problems with armpump. We're talking after maybe 2 laps. I've tryed everything you wise people can imagine. Had really good motocross trainers, good opportunities, trained alot off the bike, rode alot, tryed the gyro grip and that's the worst thing i've tryed.. When you train you're forarm muscels you're muscels get bigger, and naturally the room for free bloodflow gets smaller (that was the damn gyro grip) I eate right, slept right, did tryed alot of vegetable drinks, was pretty relaxed on the bike. I would say ive tryed everything, plus i did study alot. Here's the point. I did get the "armpump surgery" done. And this really did help, now I could ride 5 laps at full speed. It may not sound like alot but it's 150% more. And then i could better slow the pace down, and ride at 75% the rest and have fun riding. I've been riding for 18 years, but not riding no more bc sadly my body is so fucked up i can't walk, but thats another story..

I thought I had arm pump... it's a nerve in the elbow area. My son is blinding fast but has the same elbow problem so never turned pro. I went to a chiropractor in 1994 and he did Wonders but it wasn't a cure. I still ride at 72..., a MX bike and a BMW touring elephant like thing. But just riding on logging roads, touring short distances can make my hands numb. So a nerve in my elbow hurts and numbness in hands occurs. But the Main Cause Is My Back::: It's the 4/5 th neck vertabra and the 4 or 5 spine vertibra. That's what was tweeked in 1994 and that tweeking Really helped me to this day.

A wise old motocross rider (my father) always bashed it into my head to beat arm pump don’t hold on to the bars tight and while your driving use one of those spring hand exercise things. It worked great for me. I think a lot of it is that people hold on way too tight. Treat it like your steering wheel in your car

I’ve raced motocross for over 20 years and it’s weird I’ve only gotten arm pump once at hard rock back in the early 2000s. I believe it’s because I did a lot of gary Bailey riding schools growing up and my form and body position was on point and I think that’s why

I had a sheet rock business an put up the rock you have ur hand flat wide open holding board over ur head supposedly carpal tunnel sysdrum is common doing tje finish work tapeing put spackle on is now tension..the surgery is 50 50 on success...just ride one extra time a week an it will disappear...all riders get arm pump when they dont ride for little over a week...the big trick is using ur legs an hips to turn the bike which are muscle we dont use either if at all and inner thigh muscle to squeeze the gas tank...i put in a few laps using my legs in the proper way it was a little strange but it took all the pressure off my arms an hands it was truly amazing if u could do it a little an train ur atrofeed muscle a little a time then used be ready for the old 45 minute plus 2 lap moto on the GP CIRCUIT in euro....funny thing is the USA AMA national i think were pro motos were 45 minutes plus 2 also 60 s 70s...ride 2 times a week once isnt enuf...stretching helps to...u need to warm up jumping jacks jump rope then strecth u never strecth cold muscles...always warm up first just a little...i like jumping rope because those are all the movement an muscle each one ur about to use..plus jumping rope u train ur reaction..like if u need to clear a small jump u slam a jump face ur moving front an back on the bike...on a 450 ur just hanging on for dear life ...fork it dont do nothing take ur chances i dont know u...just kidding....be safe drinking water an some gatorade the week or days before going racing is also keep a little jogging...the initial arm pump is a stretch an lactose build up cramp hydration drinking plenty of water days leading up to a practice day or race....nerves dont help so the more u relaxed u are helps...i would skate a half pipe for 9 hours when i was a kid an my ham strings would go into a charly horse at the dinner table never drank any water or stretched out ever i was 11....

Holy smokes, when I ride for hard for and hour or more straight when I get into my truck and takes about 10 to 15 minutes and I start to cramp. By the time I'm home charlie horses are so bad in my calf's and hamstrings. I have to either get in the pool or bath asap I'm going on 44. Trying to relax more is a part of the answer I'm in agreement with that. I have alot of surgeries from shattered and broken bones have titanium my left leg; left forearm; and also neck, and had a mpfl lateral release done on right knee. Doc, could any of my past injuries be causing these charlie horses cramp????. There getting into my quadriceps and hamstrings the pain is intensely high and almost unbearable.

Arm Pump ruined my career. I used to battle with mike alesi back in the early 2000’s. I could only do about 2 laps before it pumped so bad I was barely hanging on. I never squeezed hard enough. I used my arms to put the bike where I wanted, thus I could do 2 hot laps before the pump, then I would just fade back. Knowing what I now know, if only I squeezed more (I had strong legs) who knows where my career could have gone.

People say growing your forearm muscles to reduce pump makes it worse but that's not true. Slowly my forearms got bigger and stronger , now less arm pump since I've been jacked 😉. "It's not the arrow, it's the Indian".

I am sorry. I have to stop here to understand. When you pump up and there's more pressure on the blood if you're pumping up shouldn't the travel way for the blood be bigger. Which brings up a volume problem
@matthewbaer4139
@matthewbaer4139 2 года назад
The muscle pumps up which constricts the blood vessels from the pressure, think of it like putting a power washer on a hose
