I was a closet alcoholic for almost 7 years. I would be confused because I would ask God if he was okay with it and basically the response I got was, "you know how I feel, but you're free to do as you please." For years I kept on drinking but I kept thinking, "How long can I hide this condition? I can lie to myself and I can "unconfess" it to God for so long, but what if one day God pulls the plug on my health and I don't have a choice but to confess my sins to my family and to him?" Pastor Francis Chan said, "Lord help me humble myself so that you don't have to." This prayers has always kept me humble. Today I am 38 days sober and I don't "feel" righteous but I definitely feel like a veil was removed and I can approach God unashamed because I no longer carry that guilt of being a liar and a drunkard.
The psalm is so true, I had hidden sin and I felt like a hippocrite and I couldn't muster up the courage to talk to my pastor about it. I felt my bones waste away as over a couple of years I stayed in depression because of it and barely went outside and didn't exercise. I never forgot or denied what the Lord had done for me, and the Lord has brought me out of darkness now and shown me the error of my ways. I have since also talked to my pastor about what happened.
I think it’s very important to mention that while hidden sin could be related to physical suffering, the existence of physical suffering is not indicative of hidden sin- for example, when Jesus healed the blind man.
1.Sin can result in suffering that comes as just chastisement or judgement. 2.sickness can be used of God to make us be inline with his will/can be used for God's glory like Paul's thorn in the flesh that kept him humble.
There is no doubt that physical suffering is sometimes because of personal sin and sometimes isn't. James 5:14-15 is an important passage on this topic, where James writes: 'Is anyone among you sick? He should call for the elders of the church, and they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will heal the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.' Note the clause, 'And if he has committed sins'. This clearly implies that the sickness of some sick Christians is because of their personal sins. But it just as clearly implies that the sickness of some is not because of their personal sins.
I have 3 siblings who are abusive Narscissts. My parents allowed them to abuse me and said nothing. I had learning disabilities, they did not. My physical ailments are from chronic stress and PTSD! I was treated as a slave to clean up and manage their hoarding. I'm the only born again believer.

So true. One of the pastors at my former church who is now with the Lord, spoke of his friend , who was living for the Lord. After sometime, he backslide for ten yrs. He lived they say like the devil. He ended up with stomach cancer. He was broken. One of the men went to see him and said he’s ready to preach now. I won’t ,ention my own. God is so amazing. does a spouse deserve to be told the truth about adultery (physical or emotional) I know my husband pastor has had an emotional relationship with his worship leader but he refuses to admit it to me, even months later. He did confess in front of the entire church that he’d had to repent of something that had been keeping him awake at night for weeks. But even though i’ve confronted him with my suspicions about her (based on things I personally observed) he still refuses to acknowledge it and she’s still at our church. I feel like i’m in hell
Not necessarily. 1 John 1v.9 states: "If we confess our sins, he (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness." Jesus knows all we have done as He is God, He won't be shocked. All He wants us to do is acknowledge that we have sinned and to walk in repentance. Jesus is our Confessor. The Hebrew word for repentance means to burn down that house (the sin), walk away from it and don't live anywhere near it anymore. If you feel you need to confess to another human person, then maybe another trusted, seasoned Christian friend or mentor who you can confide in. James 5v. 16 states "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man (or woman) is powerful and effective. If you approach someone else then I recommend that it be someone you know who will keep what you confess confidential. They can help you keep accountable and walking in repentance.

It depends what you mean by 'the law'. If you mean the law of Moses, then we are no longer under that law. As Paul writes in Gal 3:24-25: 'The law, then, was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. But since that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian'. But if you mean the law of God/law of Christ, we are under that law. As Paul writes in 1 Cor 9:20-21 (with some square brackets added to clarify what he is talking about): 'To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win Jews; to those under the law [of Moses], like one under the law [of Moses] - though I myself am not under the law [of Moses] - to win those under the law [of Moses].
