Does skincare really work or is it just a placebo?

I've always wondered if skincare is a lie in which people believe so much, that it changes their skin ...
The reason being is because I tested so many different moisturizers on myself ... from drugstore to high end ... and to be honest, none has made a significant difference.
That's why I started studying skincare and been doing it for more than 10 years, so this video is my conclusion.
Did you like it?
Since our skin is a "mechanical" thing, I'll soon post videos with skincare tips for each skin type (dry skin, dehydrated skin, oily skin, ... ), therefore subscribe to my channel and I promise I'll tell you something that will spice up your skincare routine.
Up until next time ...
Jure

I'm not a skincare professional or a chemist but with my biology degree i do have some minimal knowledge on chemistry. i absolutely believe that most skincare is a scam, everytime i see something promoted as "the next big thing" and "scientists say" my eyes roll into the back of my head. i don't believe a labourous skin care routine will solve much, least of all hormonal problems. i do believe there is some merit though, i have some budget moisturizers that don't have any thing fancy and it did solve some issues i had with dry skin.

Some skincare have healed my acne and acne scars, but i do believe price range isn't a good indicator except some brands like skinceuticals have good retinol and phytos. In contrast, clinique is bad, laneige is mediocre and the ordinary is good despite polarising prices.

I love your set-up, your accent, your personnalité, and I like what I'm hearing. I've always been an advocate for natural remedies like a healthy diet and exercising. Exercising can be as simple as walking or tending to your garden outside. I am currently one week in ditching all my products except a cleanser and a moisturizer. They're both very simple, Cerave stuff. And guess what : haven't had a single pimple since. Amazing. I'm continuing this journey for sure.

I only started having a skincare routine at 24. Before that, I just used soap to wash my face, no moisturisers or serums. The difference between how my skin looked back then and how it looks now is huge. Skin care definitely works

@@shivammishrabestOO7 Well you have to know face wash is the least effective part of a skincare routine. It is only inc intact with your skin for less than a couple of minutes per day. Try investing in a good moisturiser for oily skin and exfoliating using salicylic acid, AHAs and BHAs, or retinol. These will hopefully work!

The truth is somewhere in the middle. We don't have to use expensive cosmetics. I am also against retinol for the same reason, but good facial cream and sunscreen works. And no 10 minutes in the sun won't give us enough vitamin D.

Very informative, though I think this conversation needs to be separate for men and women. In my experience, hormones play a huge role. Healthy habits aren't necessarily enough to combat hormonal acne, and not everyone wants to tinker with prescription meds including hormonal birth control. It's definitely a complicated puzzle for each individual.

From what I undersrand retin a is the only proven skincare for anti aging. If my hands are dry it seems some hand lotions work.

Since pandemic started last year, I discarded all my moisturers/skincare including sunscreens, because I'm living in a rural area and 'maintenance' would be hard to find plus the fact that my neighbours don't use any skincare but they have the most beautiful skin including my 78yo mom who has the most firmest skin I've seen in her age. So I decided to live like them. After the first week, my skin scales and at its worst. Only after 15 days I've noticed the difference. Its much better than ever. I just been so intentional with my water. I drink at least 2L of water and take a bath am and pm everyday, and honestly, my skin is best now than all my years of using skincare. Look for Dr. Vicki Belo in yt. She doesnt believe in putting moisturisers too and she is being bash by other dermatologist for saying so. She's a respected name in her field though. You might be interested to connect with her in regards to this. Thank you for this vid.

That's awesome! I believe it. Look at the men around us. They don't wear makeup and their skin is usually better then women's. I think any problems with our skin usually has more to do with what we're putting in our body then with what kind of skincare products we use. I notice when I eat a lot of fruit and veggies, my skin reflects it. Plus when you look into the skincare products out there, it ends up most have ingredients that are bad for us anyway.

honestly exercising actually did SO MUCH for my skin. i have quite severe cystic acne and i've noticed that during the times i was consistent with my workouts, my skin looked reallyy bright and the acne would heal on it's own without any skincare, but it might not work for everyone tho.

Maybe it’s a hormonal imbalance? With sweat we get rid of a lot of it, not a doctor at all just wandering☺️

Iam questioning if sunlight really damages the skin or it’s the lifestyle which people are living. If you burning that’s obviously bad for your skin but sunlight actually is really healing and We know a lot of people healing the skin with ultra violet and infrared light.

If we would be on the sun always even throughout winter, we would have way less skin problems. Just look at people who work outside a lot ... I live in a small village where most of the people are farmers and their skin is gorgeous!

I agree that overuse of certain types of chemicals or oils especially ahas and bhas or overly stripping cleansers can definitely create increased sensitivity and oil production leading to a 'dependence' on them. Cleansers should be used to remove makeup and dirt not strip away our natural oil or skin barrier. However mean the stuff on retinol I slightly disagree with. IT isnt carcinogenic its just that as a side product of its effects your skin is more freshly turned over and therefore more susceptible to the harmful affects of the suns rays. The same is true if you exfloliate either physically or chemically. From scientific studies as far as products go retinol and sunscreen are the only two products to properly make any difference to the changes of aging. The rest really just have temporary effects or havent yet had been throughly investigated enough to prove their safety and efficacy in the longterm. There are of course treatments to improve other skincare issues such as acne, inflammation, scarring etc for which various products like vitamin c and aha/bhas are proven to be effective.

Not a professional but skincare does help me with my oily combination skin. I have hyperpigmentation and rosacea. I only use stuff that actually works. None of them are expensive. Otherwise washing my face with water doesn't help. I wish I have good skin even if I already eat healthy food and take vitamins.

Nice video,and I have same experience and agree. When making an appointment with laser hair removal, they ask if you have used x, y, z skin care products in the past week, so you know those skin care products do some damage to skin at the moment. Women like the idea of stay youthful looking, and yes we buy the story from cosmetic companies, unfortunately 😂

I litterally have 10 years worth of skin care photos and I haven't aged. It could be genetics or nutritional but we can deny that the sun damages skin (sun spots, sun burn, wrinkles prodomently on the driver side of the face) I believe combating that works 🤷🏽‍♀️ there are also board certified dermatologist that explain in depth what happens in the bio level.

Yes it does, I began caring for my skin decades ago. Internally and externally. However, many of the products are overpriced and flat out lie. I just use oils and sunscreen along with muscle manipulation and a strict cleaning regime to remove the grime and pollutants. :)

4:45 That's not true and there's no evidence for that. If anything, tretinoin helps with preventing skin cancer at its early stages. Yes, you are told to not go under the sun without sunscreen if you're using tretinoin because your skin is photosensitive and you can easily bun your skin.
@AdviseMyStyle
@AdviseMyStyle 2 года назад
Well … To be exact … Retinoids make your skin more sensitive to sunlight therefore it burns faster which causes skin cancer. But I yet haven’t seen a research that would prove retinoids prevent melanoma.
