I am 71 years old and have supported labour from my first vote until the start of the war in the Ukraine, I told Starmer and my MP that I would never vote for a warmongering Party again, I have supported the Palestinians all my life, my mother and father never told me to be a Socialist they only taught me right from wrong, Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians has been one of the worst wrongs in the world for the past 75 years

I have the highest regard for Ms Sultana. She is one of only a handful of our parliamentarians brave enough to defy her own party on grounds of conscience. Heartbreaking for me to see her so distraught due to the constant barrage of racist and misogynistic abuse. But as a much older lefty I'm bound to say that here her age and relative lack of experience is showing. Her comment to the effect that she expected the Labour Party to learn lessons following the Iraq war betrays a certain naivete. The majority of the population might or might not consider principle important but the political field is driven not so much by principle as by economics and greed. The obscenity of the current on-going destruction of Gaza and our parliament's unwillingness to condemn Israeli crimes exemplifies the limited degree to which principle and morality inform political decision-making.

I am doing work I am passionate about connected to the public sector… the way you describe it as “heartbreaking” is at the centre of it all. And it’s utterly exhausting to try and constantly humanise yourself.. racism and bias is in every corner in professional life especially in left leaning spaces. I feel naive to ever have believed these places were somewhat if a safety but I’ve learned my lesson. Unfortunately it is the norm. Absolutely outrageous what she’s been subjected to. When she became tearful it really got to me. The treatment meted out to Muslims is just horrific and all for spite. There were 7 crusades into the Middle East. How many times has any Muslim country in the 21st century invaded the west; ZERO. We went into Iraq, it’s a mess; we went into Afghanistan, it’s a mess; we meddled in Libya and Syria and it’s a mess. Then on top nothing but spite and derision even for this well meaning kid. I was born in the UK of an English Mum and Italian Dad, and I suffered abuse at secondary school, such as... the Eyetie's tanks had 1 forward gear and 3 reverse etc, and I never grew up with this preoccupation with nationality thank god, I'm so sorry you've suffered this abuse Zarah, you're one of my favourite MPs and I just wish the SCG would get their act together and rid us of Starmer and Reeves et al. Good grief, where do you start? This is beyond unacceptable and horrific. I was a Lab member for 30 years before leaving. I witnessed racism, bigotry, misogyny and hatred towards Scots and it was just brushed aside and laughed at. I told them where to shove their membership. I have never voted Labour since. This young politician can hold her head up proudly. She is on the right side of history and the public will not forget. Ms Sultana is a credit to her community and constituency. The Labour Party don’t deserve her.
