Does The Ortlieb Bag Jiggle On the Jones Bar?

Simple and straightforward - After watching one of my Jones Bar vidéos, a subscriber wondered (rightfully) if the Ortlieb bag hanging off the front of my Priority 600 bounced around and jiggled on rough roads.
I just took a ride up a small mountain and… what goes up, must come down. Here is a video of a portion of my descent down from visiting Castle Craig in Meriden, Connecticut. This hill was short but steep with sections of it a 10.5% grade. And, a bit unusual for me, I descended quite slowly (25-30 MPH) as the road was full of open and patched pot holes.
There is no better jiggle test than what is demonstrated in this video. So, as you view this video, WATCH THE HANDLEBAR BAG for its stability.

Thank you . I had just bought the Ortlieb bag and then decided to change my handlebars ( due to neck issues ) and thought I would have to return the unused Ortlieb but then saw you had attached your bag . I was so happy. I bought the extender and changed me order with Jones from the reg loop bar to the 2.5. Soooooooo glad I saw your review first on their page and then on youtube. Thank you so much .

Glad it helped. With the 2.5 inch rise you may find that more upright position will also help your neck issue.

I bought the garmin explorer 2 today and need to get a mount. I believe you said you turned your mount downwards and mounted on the top bar? Was it a straight mount or the one that curves slightly?

It curved slightly. I also place an extra handgrip (orange) on the top bar as it is way thin to accommodate the Garmin mount. I have my own headlight mounted on to of the riser bar and the Garmin mount facing backwards. My last video on the jiggling Jones Bar Video has a clear shot of my cockpit. While you can’t see the mount, it is attached just to the left of center of the bar and the curve then positions the Garmin dead center on the stem.

Saw a Jones Bar in person on yesterday’s ride. Looks like a good next upgrade for me.

When you get it you will have some size choices. I got the wider version (710mm I think) and have placed two Velcro straps at the location of the narrower version. I’m trying to decide if I need to cut it down. The local rail trail has restricted openings in the gate area that I used to ride right through… being very careful. With the wider Jones bar I now need to stop and wiggle myself thru as it is now very tight. That said, I do use the ends when riding in areas where I don’t need to be near the brakes. So my recommendation is to go wide and if you need to cut them down, the bar comes with a reference line for you to cut.

@@cc103acs Do you have the more expensive Jones H-Bar® Butted? What is the width when you measure straight across, bar-end to bar-end, 710? Is the 660 the same as the width of handlebar the Priority 600 comes with? Thanks

No I didn’t get the “butted” as the measurements are the same as the non-butted and I wasn’t really concerned with the little amount of weight I would gain between the two. As for the measurement, straight across from bar end to bar end is ~ 710mm. It is very wide but it comes marked with saw points so you can take it down to the smaller width if you decide to go smaller. I don’t have the old handlebar to compare but believe I did that in one of my install videos (Iwill try to find that image). I actually have placed Velcro on the saw points to see how often I go out and grip the far ends and it is rare. Pretty much when I am climbing or rolling on a wide flat with no traffic… as in all other cases I like to be nearer to the brakes. If I had to do it again I might have ordered the narrower bar.

I’m smiling! In all of my videos you are the first person to ask that question. It’s a microphone wire. The Mike is attached to the buff around my neck and runs down my arm under the sun sleeves. I usually hand hold the GoPro on a selfie stick and it connects directly to the camera via “Media Mod.” In this case I am using a chest mount so it drapes up from my wrist to the camera mounted on my chest. I had a choice to use a wireless microphone that costs $200ish dollars or a wired mic for less than $20.00. One less item to charge.
