In which I ask the audience for their experience with a certain knife to see if a particular problem is common.
Did your SRM 7056 frame lock flipper work right out of the box? If not did it get better?
If you can please not the specific model number with all the alphabet soup when replying. For example the grey one i showed here was the 7056LUP-5K

I have the 735, it is a framelock flipper and it exhibits the same issues you mentioned. I could never fix it. Good on us for fixing yours! I figured that a framelock flipper is a poor design choice because the lock bar presses against the blade more than a liner lock does in my experience.

I have bought mine somewhere late last year or early this year. Mine is 7056LUC-SA frame lock satin blade with stainless steel handle version. It has the exact same problem that you have described, out of the box. The flipper only flip the knife half way! Until I spend some time to break it in with constantly opening and closing the knife, plus oiling the pivot, then it start to become better. However now, even when it is deployed by the flipper, it somehow still feels that it is lacking of something. Btw, i recommend you to get SRM 734, this folder flip open LIKE A BOSS! It should be slightly cheaper than 7056, smaller and shorter in size, but the handle will fully fit 4 fingers grip.

+Enzorox Just got the same model you got. Same problem, blade does not flip open. Mine is so stiff I don't even bother with the thumb studs. I put some oil on the pivot and I will continue to work with it. Good knife though.

Yes, it's an issue out of the box. Not just yours. But after a lot of flipping, lube, and tweaking of the pivot screw, it eventually got smoother but not as it should. Same story you had basically. It also helps to use the tip of your finger like you're scratching the gimping under the flipper, but as you said, a flipper should not need all that. All in all, I'm not that pleased with the 7056, and it's just sat in my knife collection box since a few days after receiving it. It's definitely never worked as well as the 7076. Also, keep in mind a liner lock will have far less friction than a frame lock, but I'm sure you already thought of that. Love following your vids, btw. Keep up the good work!

I must have gotten lucky with mine. At first it wouldn't flip at all. But I played with the pivot screw tension and just spent a lot of time at my desk breaking in the flipper. It still only flips successfully 90% of the time. I have to use the button press technique to get it to work, and I have to press it hard. I hope this helps. Looking at getting the Sanrenmu GB4-913P next.

I just used tuffglide and tweaked the pivot screw and it works fine now but yeah, I did have the same issue.

I experience the same Problem. I think the ball detend of the framelock and the framlock itself fit a little to tight against the side of the blade. Also when I try to open the blade with the thumb studs it seem the harder I grip the knife the more force is required to open the blade cause with my hand holding the knife I apply force to the framelock. The only way to open the knife smoothly with the thumb stud is to make sure not to touch the framelock bar.

Cleaned, oiled, adjusted, and used Loctite. After a short break-in it does flip consistently with some wrist snap. Otherwise, I have to use the thumb studs. Very nice EDC for this ridiculously low price. Additional comments after a few days of use: 1) The blade centering is achieved when the pivot screw is sufficiently tight, at which point blade movement becomes stiffer. It will still flip...but with heavy wrist snap. 2) The frame lock is under too much tensioning to get an easy flipper out of this knife. Even with lubrication and break-in, the fame lock bar will prevent easy flipping. Is this a design issue(?)...if you demand easy flipping action then yes. I think part of the lock bar tension is exacerbated by my large hands and hold on the knife. If I am careful to keep my fingers away from the lock bar and on the clip instead...then I can flip 50% of the time without wrist motion and a really stiff trigger press. Summary: Excellent knife for the money. Even with more difficult flip, the flip lever really helps with one handed operation. I use index finger to flipper with thumb to thumb stud simultaneously and it's a smooth open. It remains a very nice and well built EDC with excellent value for money. 7056LUF-SF

I've not got this one but I do have many SanRenMu flippers. The tension on the lock bar (or linerlock) is too high - it causes the détente ball to drag on the blade, the blade coating doesn't help either. The ball has to wear in a lot for it to be a smooth flipper. The 9054 and others with the double ball détente lock are even worse, I usually strip them and weaken the tension but you have to be careful to adjust both sides the same but with digital callipers being cheap that's not a problem. Often the frame or liner lock will push the blade off centre, easy fix adjust the lock to give less tension. The light weight of the blades doesn't help the flipping action - with a heavier blade once it's moving it doesn't slow or stop as easy as a light blade

Well, from all the comments here, stuff I've read elsewhere, and other videos I'd say it is a common occurrence. It's the ones that do flip well that are the outliers. lol Given the price it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me and others would probably still buy the knife knowing that as well. I'd just clean, polish, and lube it before breaking it in. It is a good looking knife and the whole "spa" process for a pivot isn't hard to do. You just might want to make a note of it on your product page and recommend the appropriate service. ;) lol

The Hinderer designed Cryo has to use a torsion bar because the blade doesn't have the mass to flip open consistently. Same problem with the SRM 7056, although some may have just the right detent resistance to be good flippers.
@gonerydin4225
@gonerydin4225 9 лет назад
Mine works just like yours. Maybe not quite as good even as I haven't adjusted the pivot yet. Most of the drag on mine seems to come from the lock bar friction on the blade. Basically this is a copy of the Kershaw Cryo with the spring assist removed. Ironically there are some folks with the Cryo who are wanting to remove the assist spring and find it then has no detent. This is the knife for them. : )

No experience with the knife, but from the 8 reviews i saw on fasttech there were 8 comments on the bad flipping. So i think a design problem.

I have no experience with the knife but if I were to guess, it probably has a poor detent. If the blade stays in well even when trying to shake it open, it could be the detent ball has not ground a good track in the blade yet. In order to break that in, just open and close the blade with one hand while squeezing the lock bar against the blade with the other. That will help develop that track. One other thing you may try is to increase the lock bar tension which should increase the detent allowing you to build up enough tention for the blade to fully deploy but be careful, I have seen many people break the lock spring trying to increase tension. Good luck!

Does this knife have the internal attributes as the Kershaw Cryo as far as the non locking side having the milling for the torsion bar and the blade having the hole for the other end of the spring? Just wondering since it appears, other than a slight handle shape, identical or at least very close to the Cryo.
@Lazylizardgear
@Lazylizardgear 9 лет назад
No, there's no milling in the non-lock side of the handle. I don't recall a spring hole in the blade either.

I got a flipper for Christmas, didn't have any problems. It is called a matrix, some company named marphone??
@EasternGateGuardian
@EasternGateGuardian 9 лет назад
nope! It needs a lot of wrist flip to open that way. but the thumbstud works great. I took mine apart, cleaned to washers, oiled it. back together, tighter to center the blade and locked tight it. flipper is useless, but it's a nice knife for the money none the less

Mine had the same thing going on. It's a small blade, and I think that is the main issue. After a few days of breaking it in, and practice, mine flips without using any wrist. I think every flipper takes practice. Some flip right out of the box though. I don't think you got a lemon. It's a great knife, but it just takes a little practice, and some breaking in time.

just eyeballing it, it looks like a design problem. not sure if this will work, but maybe adjust the lockbar tension higher, or somehow make the flipper portion lighter. looks too 'flipper heavy'

the blade looks exactly like the cryo blade, the budget kershaws are made from the same factory?

bboyslyp I don't know for sure, but that's quite possible.
@MagicTouchMax

if you want a 7056 that flips buy a kershaw cryo with the assisted flip its still chinese and still pretty cheap, my guess is that when kershaw developed the cryo with the factory they hit on that very same problem and the "speedsafe" was invented, happy days for Kershaw with their unique selling point lol

try pushing straight down on the flipper vs. pushing downwards (or towards you)

kurtis huot You mean like at 1:05 1:26 2:18 ? Doing the button style activation is the only way this knife comes close to operating properly now. But neither flipping it like a switch nor pressing it like a button worked out of the box.

Hello Joben, I have ordered three (2x 7056LUP-SK, 1x 7056LUC-SA) and each doesn't flip nice. My Enlan EL01 (have ordered round about 15 in the last three years - for myself and friends) flip much better. The ZT 0560 is another world and not compareable.
@Lazylizardgear
@Lazylizardgear 9 лет назад
Benjamin Friedrich Thanks for the report. Yeh most EL-01 flip ok, aside from a fair number having their pivots too tight out of the box.
@Lazylizardgear
@Lazylizardgear 9 лет назад
Didn't i mention that i tried a bunch of different things, including new washers? Pivot adjustment was step one. Also the knives i get have never uniformly come with over-tightened pivots.
